TRRANGER Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 You fish out of a vintage Ranger Red and Silver that is a beautiful ride. I cant remember the year. I have an 87 360V single console 175 Merc, single axle trailer. Was a high end boat in its day, had in-dash and bow mounted flashers Lowrance. Factory custom cover, carpeted boxes, the handle rails and all. Everything works, if I was to install new flasher transducers they would work but someone cut the cords for who knows why. A guy I work with were looking at the NEW Ranger 55th Anniversary Edition 521R Limited Edition 300 Merc Power poles, 3 12 Lowrance graphs, live target, heated seats, heated steering wheel, air ride seats and more electrical gadgets than you could mention, $114,000. This made me wonder what my boat sold for when new? I was also wondering what the chances are that that New $114,000 boat will be still being able to be fished out of in 35 years from now in 2057 and have everything working or everything able to be repaired with parts that could be purchased. I am not saying mine is all original parts have been replaced, when possible directly from Ranger, or by getting the parts that Ranger bought, ie flowrite valves. No my boat aint the prettiest or the fastest but I can still catch fish, I have upgraded the trolling motor, and the graphs, added hydraulic steering and a few other items, and other than not handling rough water like that 22 foot bass yacht I think I can fish with most everyone and be competitive. Any input or thought welcomed. TR
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Well, it isn't the boat that catches the fish......so Yeah, you can compete out of it for sure. But honestly, why would you even want to put yourself through that. 😅 These kids with their FFS skills are gonna spank you repeatedly. You can count on that. I've had several offers on my 350V, the best offer was 7200.00 but the problem with selling it is that I know I can't replace it with anything comparable and reliable for under 15k. I believe my 350V with a 150 Evinrude XP sold for about 26k new in 1986 (but that's just going by my memory, not sure). nomolites 1
TRRANGER Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 So do you think that in 35 years boats built today will still be being fished out of.

Not unless they are kept in a controlled environment tomb until then. The structural composites used today, in place of wood, get brittle, bust apart, and eventually turn to dust from sun exposure and hot/cold cycles. And those sexy complex-shaped touch-screen switch panels will last about as long as your average cell phone does. And if you think there will be a replacement panel that matches it in 15 years..... you're just fooling yourself. The motors being built/sold today won't still be pushing them either. Everything being built today will end its life by being consumed in a bio-fuel power plant.
TRRANGER Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 That was my thinking, and 35 years is what it would take me to pay for that new rig that i could not still fish out of. I know what your saying about being obsolete on parts. I am in the automotive parts business and we are find parts obsolete after 5 or 6 years, Much less 35 like my ranger.
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 All high-dollar products being sold today are nothing but fuel for financial institutions, insurance companies, and state tax revenue. Consumer satisfaction is at the bottom of the list. The majority spoke loud and clear when they scoffed and snorted about the MAGA movement. This is the way the majority wants to go forward. 🤷♂️ Carl1969 and TRRANGER 2
