oneshot 1 Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I have 3 UL Rods with 4# Test, 3 M Rods with 6# Test and 3 MHVY with 25# Test. OK I like to catch Catfish and let them pull. Thinking of switching from 25# to 30#. The ones with 6# thinking of changing to 12# because I like heavier fish. This is what I have on my Rods at our Cabin. Thoughts? oneshot

The heavier Rods I bought were prespooled I wasn't happy with the line but decided leave it. The Medium Action I thought about using them for all around but find they can't handle heavy fighting fish even with the drag. oneshot
Terrierman Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I'd replace the 25 pound line with 20 and the 6 with 10.

Yes but would 20 be strong enough to hold if I take my time reeling? And really 10 pound to me is too heavy for Panfish and not heavy enough for big fighters. OK I might as well come clean. I use the Medium Action Rods for Carp and I yet have to see one not want to destroy whatever has it. oneshot
Ham Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 #4/#8/#17 the runner the line the easier to cast. You can add 6 foot of 25 lb leader if you are worried about abrasion Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I have to wrap it around reel handle and pull straight back to break it. Lot of the time the hook straightens out before the line breaks. 2. Medium rods are not for panfish. 10 pound line on a decent reel is perfect for carp if I get a vote. I've seen 15 pound carp caught on 4 lb. on Taneycomo. 10 pound is plenty. Remember, you still have the MH rods spooled with 25 lb. 20 if you listen to me. 3. Your UL rods with the 4 pound line are the panfish rods. But you already know that. 4. Drag is not to be feared grasshopper. Embrace the drag. Become the drag. BE the drag Danny. 5. Bring a big net with a long handle. Ham 1
oneshot 1 Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 OK we shall see. Will a Clinch Knot hold with 20# ? oneshot

But any good knot tied right and pulled up tight with a little spit to lube it is fine. No more free advice either buster. Fifty cents a question, dollar if I think you already know the answer.
