Yeah,

I guess its possible that a sudden change may affect them. I hope that the hatcheries weren't affected. If they were, I would think that would put a big strain on fish supplies the rest of the season.

I'm kinda worried that they will cancel further stocking of the river, so as not to short the park. Hope I'm wrong.

SOH has the fish to replenish, I'm sure, and the money should be there to cover it. Just hope they all aren't the scarred-up 11" dinks with their fins knocked off.

I hear ya fw,

I have been catching a lot of really nice clean fish at Bennett this year that I know weren't released a short time ago. The noses and gill plates were in too good of shape to be newly released fish. I relate this to the types of flies I fish. I use mostly natural flies with the occasional mini-jig to catch fish when they just aren't biting normal stuff. I'm sure they (MDC) can pool all their resources together and supply enough fish. It may not be the quality of fish we have been seeing though.

I just talked to a conservation employee, and he told me Bennett lost 30,000 fish, man that is terrible, but he also said that montauk and shepherd of the hills had plenty of fish to make up for the lost fish, I'll bet that did stink, that many fish would be terrible, but I guess the scavengers will do well for a few weeks.

Thats possibly just a couple of raceways depending on the size of the fish...does that estimate include the numbers lost from the stream?... just curious.

30,000 stocking sized fish is what he told me, that is not counting what died in the stream, I guess the warm water really did a # on the trout. I've seen Roaring river come up 10 or 12 feet in just a few minutes but it never seemed to really kill trout, just moved them around a lot, but the water has never got into the hatchery, I know it almost did in 95, it was close.

Thats what i heard.Guy told me the fish were trying to get up to better water from the river. He said they made it far as the Whistle Bridge.

But he said the fishing in the river will suck for awhile. But fishing in the Park is great.

Yes Tim, that is terrible.I was hoping that was not the case. I really noticed the success that they had with the size of the fish this year. This will really put a dent in the supply.

Also Tim,

Do you sell a primrose and pearl bead head midge at your shop? I would be interested in purchasing a dozen or so from you.

Thanks

Dad and I just returned from Bennett yesterday and yes, fishing in zone 1 was very slow, with very few fish even seen. Never did or see any evidence of fish kill, but could definitely tell the water had come up a bit. Pretty good flow still, but pretty slow day of fishing in my opinion, and this would all make sense now. Park was almost empty to us as well. I've actually never seen the place that quiet before. Seems like we had the best luck fishing right below the big main dam there. Sometimes almost a fish on every cast using a indicator and zebra midge, but that was about the only place worth a darn on Wednesday. Very sad to hear of them losing that much fish.
