It's extremely rare that I fish the same fly more than once. I might lose it or leave it on a rod for a few trips, but once I cut it off to change flies, it's probably never getting tied on again. I know that's weird but it's the way it is. For that reason, I don't worry about longevity too much. I'm not saying my way is correct or even intelligent, it's just the way that it is. I have zero head cement at my house. And just recently bought my first UV resin. I have issues. kjackson and Gavin 2
Gavin Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 You can use anything you want to create a fly! The UV stuff seems to be popular with the current generation that is into Euro/Streamer, etc. It is nothing new. Dentists have had that stuff for 45 years, and it works pretty well. That said, I really don't care about fly durability. I pretty much chuck them in the trash when I break down the rod. If its a setup I'll fish again, It will stay strung up until the next trip. fishinwrench Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Probably the biggest problem I have is that dyed materials (feathers & hair) loose their color and turn dull and ugly after being fished awhile. If it weren't for that, a fly could last several outings. Trout flys tied with naturally colored material tend to last far longer than brilliant colored bass & panfish flys. Gavin and kjackson 2
