Daryk Campbell Sr
I've seen some damaged motors due to not winterizing them. Mine is garage kept and I don't use it in winter. If I was to have it on a trip (Jigfest) in December, what would be the best way to protect it between uses multiple days in possibly freezing weather? I considered a can of compressed air to blow into the pee hoke, and force out water. 76 Merc 9.8hp 2 stroke. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
nomolites
I would top off/check the lower unit lube to ensure no water is present, and run any gas out of the carb, and ensure all water is drained from the cooling system or just store vertically. Outboards require much less attention for overwintering than IO or inboard engines. Mike Daryk Campbell Sr
fishinwrench
Just leave the motor straight up&down for a bit and it will drain out just fine. Pull the lower unit drain plug briefly, before a hard freeze, to ensure that there isn't any water in the lube. That's all you need to do.
