What this article doesn't mention is that at least in England animal rights groups released thousands of mink from fur farms into the countryside.

When I lived in Washington, the PETA types broke into a mink farm and let them out, (link below).  It was close to where I used to steelhead fish.  Never saw one myself, but 10,000 minks is a lot.
