  1. Why is that?? I’m thinking the bridge is just as strong as it was before it got damaged. They’re just trying to deter people from hauling big campers and such across it. If prople obey the weight rule it should last quite a while.
  2. Well, hopefully everyone with heavier rigs go around. Heck, just my 2003 Ranger and 12ft pop-up camper was pushing 7k. Just imagine a 5th wheel and 4X4 Dually diesel pick up combined. I saw a ton of people doing that before. I mentioned the weight limit to a guy I followed in one evening. He was pulling a big 5th wheel with a 1Ton Dodge diesel single rear wheel. He was at the check in office for the CG. His reply was comical yet sad. He said he’d been driving over that bridge for years with no issues. He also said he planned on driving over it as long as it was there, because he didn’t like straining his truck pulling his camper up that big hill at the main entrance. I asked him if his camper was to heavy for his truck. He had no clue. Said the salesman said he had plenty of truck to pull it. LOL Kinda makes you wonder how many folks actually know what their truck and camper combo weigh.
  3. I know a lot of 1 ton dually pickups are over 9000lbs empty. I could easily see one loaded at over 5T.
  4. Anyone know what it was before it got damaged??
  5. That's the problem with those managed hunts that are for population control. Most people are hunting for a once in a lifetime buck instead of killing deer to manage the herd. Make it an earn a buck program at least and it might help achieve their goal of reducing numbers. Still probably won't get the full targeted number, but it'll for sure be better than the results they just got.
  6. There are states that were felt ban that are going back to felt being OK. Like mentioned already, it's got something to do with phosphorus in the water. Supposedly, dydimo exists in pretty much almost every stream. But, phosphorus keeps it in check at the right levels. All the streams out here in Oregon are felt legal streams from what I've seen. The streams I fished in NY this past summer were dydimo positive streams and they all were allowing felt soles. The San Juan in NM is felt legal. All those streams are way more fragile than MO trout streams in my opinion. So much for those boot washing stations at Bennett Huh??
  7. Maybe the park concessionaire chipped in to hurry up the project......🙄
  8. Hard to say about an outage schedule. I've worked a bunch of them across the country and there is no rhyme or reason on their schedules. You would think that it would be during low demand times. Normally November in MO isn't crazy cold. So if they scheduled an outage then it would go on as planned. Regardless of actual demand. So they may be using the generation as filler for high demand on the grid. JM2C
  9. Is there an Outage at a local power plant?? Seems like it's a demand issue for the grid.
  10. Kinda like a guy I saw with a stick digging around in a porta jon once. I asked him what he dropped and he said he dropped his jacket in there. I told him I would give him a jacket and to let it go. He said screw the jacket!! My ham sandwich is in the pocket.......🤢
  11. Stuck out here in Oregon still. Otherwise I'd be there this weekend at least.
  12. That's exactly what they do on the McKenzie here in Oregon. The guide I used was telling me how they stock the stocked sections of the river. He said they actually float the river putting in fish throughout the stream as they drifted downstream. Makes perfect sense to me. But, even with that method, most of the stockers are all pretty well caught out by the end of the summer season. He didn't give me a number on how many fish get released. I did catch one stocker while floating my trip. But it was about a 10" fish. All the rest were wild native fish that are to be immediately released. MO should do something similar if they wanted to help with fish spreading out.
  13. I don't think that there are any left. Between the ladies fishing day and whatever else that drew big crowds at the end of the busy season most of the better size fish are all accounted for. I know when I was down before I headed out to Oregon, most of the fish I caught were pretty much small fish. Did catch a couple decent sized ones though. I'm just wondering what the fish size will be like for the catch and release season. Last winter was a pretty good mix. I'll be down this coming Sunday through Halloween evening to finish up the season. I'll get a better idea of what its like then. Hopefully my gear makes it home before my flight does Friday.
  14. The cycle of fish size is pretty much the same as it's been the last couple years. Ben has done a great job of putting good size fish in during the busy months of the year. From Mid April to the last weekend of September there were a lot of nice fish in the stream. Just as it was last year, fish size decreased after the Labor Day Holiday weekend. I think people get spoiled over fish size in MO sometimes. I've fished a lot of streams all over the country and Bennett has bigger average size trout than most, from what I've observed. I agree with using Bennett to hone your skills, as they've really helped me abroad. Especially with fish landing and fighting skills. From what I understand, the stock of fish is doing pretty well. Not, sure how many fish have been spoken for to stock urban fisheries this winter. But, I'm sure it'll be a good amount from Bennett. As long as they keep putting enough fish in to make it a decent day of fishing I'm good with it. Sure I'd like there to be a ton of nicer fish every day. But, it is what it is. I rarely if ever keep trout. Much rather eat bluegill or crappie myself. The only real issue I have with Bennett is the rude and illegal fishing people. Catch and release season will take care of a lot of that though.
  15. Thanks for the replies guys. I ventured out to the Willamette southwest of town towards Oak Ridge and tried to get to some productive water. Most of the access points from the highway you almost need rappelling gear to get down the steep embankments. I'm 53 and still pretty surefooted, but not stoopld. LOL I did find a small campground that was in the process of shutting down for the season. The caretaker let me access the river from one of his parking lots. The current and the width of the stream was too much to wade safely. So, I walked up the stream and found it was all that way. So, I went the safe route and hired a guide for a float next Sunday on the McKenzie river. We'll so how that goes and maybe try to get a little info from the guides on some other streams that are more wade friendly.
  16. Anybody have any experience with where to fish around the area?? I'm here for a couple weeks at least and have Sundays off to maybe do some fishing. Thanks!

    Only one...

Al, On your rod is a 20" mark, correct?? If so that fish looks to be more than 20". Not that it matters much, but just curious if that is the case. Nice fish!! Great story as usual.
  18. All this stuff is still available except waders and boots. Everything is virtually in new condition.
  19. What's laughable is you thinking I got mad at you. I just shake my head and move on.🙄
  20. I've used Smith Action Optics for the last 15 years or so. I have the guides choice version with techlite glass that are polarchromic mirrored copper lenses. They lighten or darken with the available light. I've never had the issue that you speak of. What color is the lens coating on the back side of the lenses??? Purple by any chance??
  21. The best info I got is, when it starts to storm, get off the water as quick as you can. That place has some of the worst lightning I've ever seen. That and make sure your net is big enough for those fish.
  22. Waders and boots are sold.
  23. I fished a couple creeks close to Syracuse. Chittenango and 9 mile creek each for a couple hours. Then I went down to Roscoe NY to fish the Beaverkill and Willowemoc creek. If a person can’t find somewhere to fish for trout in that whole region, they’ve got their head in the sand. Bugs galore man. Use what’s hatching at the time and pay attention to the fish. You’ll catch fish. Hopefully I’ll get back up there on my own sometime instead of working. Then I’ll have more freedom and time to do what I want without time restrictions. Oh.... and I’ll take my normal gear.😬
  24. I didn’t. I just don’t need 3 of everything.
  25. Yes it was. But it was well worth it. Much better than staring at the walls of a motel.
