You're certainly well equipped for the way you fish. You fish a softer tip rod than most to accommodate that MASSIVE hook set. For those that haven't see it, imagine Bo Jackson hitting a baseball as hard as he can. Dave sets the hook harder than that.

If you're going to spend money to get a lighter blank and better guides, you might want a lighter reel as well. We all like what we like. Shimanos bind when wet. And Daiwas are heavy and slow. I've been buying Pfluegers lately. Last Arbor I got has big spool and is 8.5 oz vs 10.8 ounces for the Daiwa Lexa 3000 which I heard was on sale at Cabela's.

Super Dave and other accomplished anglers form an opinion and then set it in stone with unintended confirmation bias. It amuses me to see the sacred cows trotted out over and over. Dave rightly points out that Nanofil can have issues on windy days, but there are ways to deal with wind and braid/Nanofil. I will state without reservation that Nanofil gives me more advantages than any other line I have ever used and puts thousands of fish in my boat annually. Dave is all in with fluorocarbon on spinning. Fluoro on spinning has its own issues. Expense, line twist, and the weight of the line on small lures. I'm assuming it has pluses to offset the negatives and I bought a largish spool of 6 lb Fluoro and a large arbor spinning reel to experiment with myself and see if I can find a spot for it. FTR: I like the yellow more when it is cloudy and the White more when it is sunny, but I'm good with either whenever too.

My stuff was mostly shallow off color water with some flow. Usually around rip rap or wood. Finger Tiger especially but also the Brown Craw and the olive Craw. Caught good numbers on pearl and TN Shad at times. I wore the paint off of some of them.

Man o man. Memory lane. I caught a bunch of fish on Quarter Backs and Little Scoopers back in the day before I could handle a bait caster. Bagey's Honey Bee's came out and screwed those good times up for me. I became a Honey Bee guy. Bomber 2A's and 6's were a staple. I caught very few fish on 3A or 7A. Now we also caught a bunch on the 5A. At some point, they made a negative improvement on the 5A when they moved the line tie from the nose to the bill. That little shallow running 5A was deadly in the passes at Venice. Caught lots of bass on them, but that's all before I was nudged into re-trying the Ned. So take all the above with a grain of salt.

The general rule of thumb I've seen written about is that anytime the Air temp and the water temp added together = < 100, you are at greater risk for hypothermia. The lower the number the greater the risk. Maybe someone (think Griz Wilson) will find a pretty chart and post that.

I would go to TW site and look at their finesse jig place. Look at the pictures and pick out some that are close to what you like. But a small assortment and give them a whirl. But more of what works for you.

That's the great thing about fishing ; lots and lots of options. It's good that you know what you enjoy and are able to do it. I look forward to reading about your adventures in 2017.

Hey Man, fishing is fishing. No complaints here. i actually enjoy golf. I played a lot growing up and still have all the gear. I prefer to spend my limited time fishing. I do hate seeing a a fishing thread ruined by guys talking fancy golf balls and clubs. Improve your game, Not your gear.
