  1. Shimano makes fine baitcasters. And everybody loves their spinning reels UNTIL they bind up on you. It happened to me twice (two different reels) personally and I've seen it personally with other people's reels on other ocassions. I thought it might be a custom rod deal. I'm always the iconoclast. I not a big fan of micro guides.
  2. I've confused why you're using a Shimbindo spinning reel for one thing and wondering why you need to know the dimensions of the spool for another. In the end, I figure it's just some fancy lawyer stuff.
  3. ????????????????????????
  4. You'll get a 5 something RPS. It sounds like you've caught some right at the door step. I'd like to know what that 19 inch one I caught last June would have weighed. What does a 2o inch football spot weigh?
  5. I was actually thinking about thst bait on a split shot rig, shakey head, or a drop shot. I've got my cut zero box ready. I may break out the Ned Rig at Toledo Bend.
  6. I've never seen them spiral down. I'm usually fishing them in current which is dominates the fall of the jig. They seem to glide down more than a ball head jig would and maybe have a little random slide in whatever direction the nose points to at the end of a twitch BUT the impact of the current on the jig as it quickly glides down is the main thing.
  7. Basically the same boat I have, but a newer boat and motor. This should make some lucky person a very nice rig.

    Otters

I love otters. I really don't see them causing harm to fish numbers. I hear they're terrible on styrofoam floatation for boat socks though.
  9. Thanks for the heads up. I'd be tickled pink to catch a legit 5 pound spot out of Bull Shoals.
  10. I assume that Zig Jigs are made with lead, but I don't know that. I'll keep in mind that the PJ's aren't lead based. That might become vital down the road. If the Zig Jigs leave the marketplace, I'll start buying and using the PJ's jigs. I know they work too.
  11. They are about $13 a dozen from the website. Three packs are about $6 at a local store (Harps). About the same price as a lot of flies, but they last a lot longer than flys. There are several sizes of fly rod jigs (1/124, 1/80, and 1/64 oz Ithink) and 1/32 ,1/16, 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 oz. in the spinning sizes. I have no idea why the trout eat them with reckless abandon, but they do.
  12. I've used both and the PJ's seem to hang a little bit more and the Zig Jig has a Mustad Black Nickle hook that is better than most. One will fail every now and again, but I often catch more than 50 fish on one jig so I think they're pretty darn durable.
  13. Lol, y'all figure it out and let me know. I need to write it down on my list for the year.
  14. With the soft plastic restrictions in place on NFOW, I switch to Zig Jigs once I reach Rainbow Springs. Trout and Smallies WILL eat them on NFOW. That beast Rainbow I caught on NFOW ate a Zig Jig at the head of a pool. I of course hope they work really well for you.
  15. . They'll eat Zig Jigs too
  16. Shiner. I call them Creek Shiners, but I think it is listed as just "shiner". They get about twice as the one that you have there and will bite all sorts of artificals including full size jerkbaits. Pretty smelly little fish.
  17. That's good stuff!
  18. We had that winter get together last December that turned into Jig Fest. We all had a big time and there is serious talk about it being an annual event. Keep an ear to the ground about October. I imagine the planning will start about then.
  19. And a Gizzard Shad!
  20. I think the catfish population is still decent in Crooked Creek which is odd since it has the same cold water issue as the Buffalo.
  21. That'd be great! I'm still learning. Drilling down deeper into the details and nit picky aspects of it. You've probably forgotten more about jig fishing for trout than I'll ever know. I like to fly fish as well, but I know going in that it is rarely the most productive numbers wise. It isn't always about numbers. 300 trout in a day for two anglers is definitely possible. 10 fish an hour per person is an OK bite, 20 fish an hour per person is a good bite, and beyond 20 fish an hour per person is a great bite. These are landed fish. Not strikes. Not fish you hooked and lost. I haven't caught 200 in a day by myself, but I think I could. I banged out 52 fish in a little under 4 hours yesterday at Rim Shoals. Low water kept me from fishing my best spots, but I found a couple of places with some biters. I wasn't all that mad at em yesterday. I went home early to have a nice supper with my wife. I caught a big ole carp that made my day. 26 inches long and tubby. Think Arkansas's football coach with fins.
  22. This Creek Shiner ate a Zig Jig yesterday as well.
  23. Zig Jig on the White River yesterday. I did catch 4 species yesterday, but not the four pictured. I'm trying to catch up on posting pictures. I'm at 12 species so far.
