  1. Jets only have steering when you are under power. Ie you can't glide onto your trailer very easily. Point your trailer a little down stream. Run your boat upstream and turn onto the trailer at the last second by getting the nose just past the downstream bunk. You'll need to back your trailer in fairly far to off load the boat. Jets don't have a lot of power in reverse. Ie not enough power to pull it off the trailer. Plenty for drift corrections and stuff like that. You'll learn to hate leaves in the water. Get used to being very loud while underway.
  2. As of Thanksgiving morning that tree is still in the way. I got past it, but it is a hazard. I only managed to get 14 trout to hand, but had a nice male Brown in the bunch and some chunky bows.
  3. Wow, I never throw anything larger than 1/16 oz jigs at crappie on docks and usually stick with 1/32 oz. Great job catching them. Good eats.
  4. No one jerkbait is going to suspend perfectly throughout the cooling water season. ie water temp and resulting water density changes affect if a bait suspends. Lots of really good baits out there. I suggest everyone go buy several of each in every color available. That way we can all be so confused about what to try first and how long to fish it without changing that we will never get any fishing done at all.
  5. I can tell you from first hand experience that the Megabass hooks don't stand up to the rigors of fishing very well. A single good walleye will do bad, bad things to them. If the wimpy split rings bum you out, swap em out.
  6. Agree 100%, but a lot can be done with the addition of a little lead. I'll need to try a couple.
  7. My last three trips to the White River have been really frustrating. My last trip in the boat was screwed by lots of debris in the water from a sudden burst of pretty high flows. I made a wade trip to Rim om Monday. It was cloudy and the bite was wildly inconsistent. I caught fish on a whole lot of flys,, but not a whole lot of fish on any particular fly. I thought that maybe the heavy clouds screwed me up. Today was clear and cool and windy as hell. I barely caught any fish at all. I finally learned my lesson and quit trying to fish a multi-fly rig. It took multiple horrible tables for me to clue in though. Wing made streamersbthe easiest fly to fish, but I couldn't get bit on it. Egg patterns were all I could get bit on today. I think the bite was off and the heavy wind was just an obnoxious icing on the cake. Lots of fishermen. Not a whole lot of fish being caught. Maybe White Hole should be my next trip. IF I get a shot at em with 1-2 units and wind of 10 mph or so, I'm gonna knock em dead.
  8. Finally got a day off that lined up with low water. I was there fairly early with the 4 wt expecting to really catch em. Ehhhh not so much. I never was able to really dial in on a fly that was "hot". Everything would catch a fish every once in a while. Egg patterns seemed to b the most reliable and pulled a little larger fish on average. Once again, they did not follow their posted generation schedule.I wss paranoid from 1 pm watching for rising water. I ran into Frank Aka Brownie from the old Riversmallies day and he gave me an update onthe water still being off. I had lots of my typical multi-fly tangle issues and more than usual number of breakoffs on hook sets. I eventually fished down past the first island and noticed a fairly complete mid sized tree blocking the run that most boats use to run the backside of the island. I feel like Gary will get a chainsaw after it before long. I need to give him a call today and ask if he knows about it. I'd hate for anyone to get hurt or tear their stuff up. What worked. SJW, Copper John, Y2K, Zebra Midge (black, red), Zig Jig micro jig, bead head Prince.
  9. Dang. Gotta work. I'd love to hear him speak.
  10. Have you ever seen the Cabela's Guidewear? I'm pretty fond of mine. I did look at the 100 MPH stuff and it was nice, but I didn't get the feeling it would be better than the Cabela's Guidewear.
  11. Great game. I bet there were millions of bummed out Rangers fans.
  12. I wouldn't worry about the braid so much. If the big metal framework doesn't turn them off, I don't see the braid bothering them. I have NO idea how much the framework sells for, but the multiple jigheads with bit swimbait bodies would start to add up after a while. It might not work at the dam areas of BSL or TR, but a little further up creek arms where you have a little color in the water might be an OK spot to try it. I'm passing on this fad. I have a couple of news things I'm working on already.
  13. It's gonna be a beatdown to fish it. I'm not sure I have a rod that is rated to throw it. I'm sure it will work here, but it won't work everywhere you throw it. I think it might be possible to look at why it works and get something else going that takes advantage of that without it weighing multiple ounces AND once the fish have seen it for a while, they won't be as stupid over it. Enjoy it while it lasts. I have no plans to buy any at all.
  14. If your statement is truth and not hyperbole, you are horribly misguided and shorting yourself. But that's cool, your I only fishing moving water badge looks great.
  15. Fall is NOT a fun time to run a jet. Leaves are definitely a PIA right now on the creeks even with soft plastics.
  16. While I agree that there is no comparison between the money the Pro spends for the tourney and what the co-angler spends, there is a usual and customary amount for the co-angler to contribute. $50 would be more than fair and a "legend" of the sport like RM doesn't have to be a cheapskate and a obnoxious SOB. I've fished in several FLW and BASS events as a Co-Angler. I've always offered gas money to every angler I've fished with and always treated their boat/gear BETTER than I would my own. I tried to ask up front for ways that I could be helpful and at a minimum stay out of their way. I was there primarily to learn. I did learn that I can and do catch fish from behind anybody I fish with. You have to adapt to what they are doing and fish what you can behind them. Everyone needs to clearly understand that you ARE NOT fishing against the pro. Pre tourney meetings cover all of this.
  17. Certain pros EARN bad reputations from their behavior. I've heard from multiple people that RM isn't the best person in the world. Gary Klein has earned a bad rep as well.
  18. The courtesy dock has not been replaced or repaired. Launch at Pontiac was fine.
  19. The smallies out of the Current river sure had yellow colored pec fins. High skies and super clear water over gravel makes em that way I suppose. I should have gotten some pictures.
  20. I've been fishing for as long as I can remember. My Dad fished and I sure wanted to be like him and spend time with him. I'll guess about 45 years so far sooooooooo, I'm just getting started. Fishing is a lot more than a past time to me. I'll fish until I can't anymore and honestly, I hope I don't live much longer than that. Sorry to hear you've called it quits CB, but I'm glad you've got family to enjoy.
  21. Maybe l'll call in sick to work. I anticipate fishing BSL within before the month is up.
  22. I've bought some really pretty ones, but throwing it at the right time in the correct places is WAY more important than the paint jobs. just sayin..
  23. Don't name it. Ppl can PM you IF they really need to know.
  24. Usually this time of year I'll have a copperhead cross the yard. THey are really pretty snakes. This October we've had a rash of little Ring Necked snakes. Several in the house and some in the yard. Cats must be napping on the job.
  25. I'll be there soon.
