  1. THIS ! Once you catch a flathead, I don't understand how you could be confused later.
  2. Spring is in a hurry now
  3. I hope I live long enough to retire
  4. I'm crazy, but I'm not catch and cook creek chub crazy.
  5. I second that emotion.
  6. Man, once you've almost been washed away. You take that dang horn pretty seriously.
  7. I guess I’ll be buying some Size 20 Griffiths Gnats
  8. Larger than mine and still a channel cat
  9. A couple more things about yesterday. I had so many more fish rising to eat bugs in the film last Friday. A fella handy with a flyrod like @BilletHeadcould have a pretty good time. I figured out how to fool them with a trout magnet under a float and I really wanted to play that game some more. I did not get many chances on Tuesday. On the trout magnet, color really matters. I purposefully played with colors and there were definite losers and winners. Some colors just would not get bit at all. Some got bit, but clearly not as good as my best color. On the Spring River, Black/Chartreuse (aka Bumblebee) was clearly superior. I won't die with a color. It will get a few minutes and then I'll move on to the next one I think might work.
  10. I have had some really fun days on the Spring.
  11. I hit the little "lake" again. I got a little earlier start than previously and actually fished a few additional minutes also, but I caught a few less fish overall. I feel pretty certain that it was weather related. Friday I had heavy clouds, very little wind, and out and on drizzle. Tuesday I had High skies and more wind than I wanted at times. I knew it was going to be slower. I had to make two casts before I caught a fish. The fish were much easier to manipulate into biting with a Zig Jig instead of the Trout Magnet this time around. I think I caught maybe 8 fish on the trout magnet. I did make good on my promise to myself to bring the flyrod. I didn't have all my stuff, but a large bead head bug with a cerise San Juan worm got more than a few bites. I caught like a half dozen on it. I left the Bass gear at home (mostly). I did catch 3 Bass I think. All small. I did not find anymore Red Spotted Sunfish and I looked for them pretty hard. I really wanted the 50 burger, but I had to settle for 46 brought to hand. I certainly had my chances, but that was all I could manage.
  12. Thanks for the tip. I'll wait until August.
  13. Do you have a Good technique for catching the gizzard Shad on hook and line?
  14. I did that last year. Not everyone was amused.
  15. I'm usually only on 11 pt during cooler months when less traffic would be expected. I do agree that the Good Ole Days are behind us. Everybody and their brother has a yak these days.
  16. I'd like to do the Lassiter Access with a 4 Weight flyrod and waders some time. There looks to be plenty to fish for a day there. Lots of grass do it will fish like pocket water. I do wish it was a little closer, but do be it.
  17. Somehow, I had ZERO clue it was there. I mean NO clue at all or I would have fished there a decade ago. I don't have enough decades left to keep missing opportunities like that,
  18. That is the official name, but I refuse to call them that.
  19. I have this dream that you and I will be able to fish together on a regular basis sometime down the road. I will fish there again. maybe soon. I need to work out a few more details on those Red Spotted Sunfish. I want to see if that was a needle in a haystack deal or what. I need to get a few more species on the fly rod too. I should be able to quickly add RBT and maybe BT. I think I might have a shot at Golden shiners there too. If anyone wants to help a brother out with a Golden Shiner spot, I'm all ears. I will tweak the rods I carry and the way I spend my time there. Still want the 50 burger, but I won't fool with the Bass next time.
  20. Those things become monsters in the lake. Unreal BIG.
  21. Here's another pic
  22. I have found another rod I really like. It is a B&M rod made for Leland Lures (the Trout Magnet guys). it is the Leland TCB rod. It is a moderately fast rod that protects light line. The combo comes with 4 lb line. I switched it to 2 lb. I eventually replaced the original dinky spinning reel with the smallest Pfleuger President. I like it a lot. It is a weird combination of micro/mini/ small fish rod that can wear down 18 inch trout. Light and smooth. It is a two piece rod for easy traveling. It has my full recommendation.
  23. I probably caught 7 or 8 Browns.
