  1. I was able to carve out 4 days to go take my Dad fishing. He isn't able to go fishing by himself anymore and most of his fishing buddies are in similar situations. Big Cypress Bayou below Lake O the Pines is a Cypress tree lined jewel. I freaking love it. If I got to make a trip there in mid to late October/November EVERY year that would be fine by me. Shallow dingy water that has panfish, catfish, and bass. This year I had a special treat. My daughter was able and willing to make the trip down with me. She has always been close with my Dad. It was important to her to spend some time with him. We didn't get an early start either day, but we fished more than I expected too both days and caught decent numbers of crappie. My numbers were down, but I was playing guide most of the day. I took my trout boat down because it's better for my Dad, but it's harder to control and we a bunch of wind. New truck did great. I put over 1000 miles on the trip. At times, I averaged almost 17 miles to the gallon trailering the trout boat. Dang! My biggest disappointment was failing to catch a Spotted Sunfish. I tried.
  2. Done deal Jeff. Friday AM it is. If we are sure about those dates, I'll text Got Muddy, Richard Cross, and make sure LRF know ASAP.
  3. Watching my Dad's health fail and watching his personality change as dementia tightens its grip on him is very difficult for me. I fish because he fished and included me on his trips. He doesn't love fishing like he used to. I guess that's ok because he really can't fish very well any more and he can't go on his own anymore. I'm headed down this Friday with my daughter to take Dad fishing Saturday and Sunday for as long as he wants. It may be an hour or if might be all day. Hopefully, he'll enjoy himself.
  4. I'll be staying at my Bluff Cabin. I'll have a boat and a couple of empty seats. I'll fish Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  5. Woo Hoo! I'm looking forward to it!
  6. Super cool! A lot jealous.
  7. I'm think the weekend of 12/8,12/9, 12/10 would be Great with me. I'll look for the official Jigfest Thread
  8. Really crappy bite. I caught 10 in 3 1/2 hours. stein got this 19 inch Brown though
  9. It's been a jacked up year for my fishing. I know lots and lots of people hand real world problems and I have a few of my own, but my fishing obsession has not been getting enough of a workout. Well...we closed on our Mountain Home house. We took a beating on it, but I no longer have two house notes and two big yards to keep up. I also no longer have my old truck. It had been in rapid decline for a few months and I decided to replace it. I "took advantage" of year end savings and got an ok trade in i the old Avalanche. I'm in the little brother truck of Little Red Fisherman. He got it with the 6.2. I got it with the 5.3. Same model/same color. I hope to figure all the gadgets out before it's time to replace it. So, from here until the end of the year, I intend to fish often even if some of my trips are short. Still got the multispecies thing going on, but trying to get to 2500 fish for the year. Fair Warning Fish, I'm coming for you. To that end, Stein called. He's making a flying trip down to check on his place and we are going to try to sore mouth some trout here in a little bit.
  10. Success breeds success. Learn what works for you and what doesn't. If you had a Good time, it doesn't matter at all what other people think. you caught more fish than I did this weekend.
  11. If the rails went on, they can come off.
  12. You should have hired a diver
  13. Man, Next year, I would be all about that 25 HP jet
  14. I would assume good catfishing in the lower river and salty fish too. I'd love to find out.
  15. Used to be Good Spotted Bass fishing in the Bogue Chitto. What about the Pearl River?
  16. Well, wrong tent, wrong bag, and inaccurate forecast = me shivering uncontrollably = minimal sleep.
  17. As far as I know, they are a Bass Pro Shops item ONLY. I have two in active rotation and two new ones in a rack. They will cease production at some point. I've straight up lost one while yakking and had a cousin break another one being a knucklehead. It happens.
  18. Truer words are seldom spoken. I was too cold to sleep on one of those low 20's nights. Absolutely, miserable.
  19. I saved $600 a month for 3 years and had a decent down payment and then paid $600 a month for three years. I did pay it off a few months early, but still.
  20. There might NOT be many, but there are some.
  21. I would have felt a great disturbance in the Force if he had quit making them. so far so good
  22. I did not know that either. I've been told there were Old Shawnee boats that were 16 foot 32 inch bottoms. Stay seated and trust your partner.
  23. Why do you want a 16 footer instead of a 20 foot boat.
