  1. I fished the lower lake Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I only fished about 6 or 7 hours each day. Friday, I started late and fished until 7 PM or so. the other two days I got on the water around 0700. The occassional boaters are out in force so be aware that boat ramps are gonna be full of stupid and that you CAN NOT count on the other boaters to have a clue about how to safely and properly operate their boats. They do not know the rules of the road nor respect for others. Be careful. Saturday was a ZOO. Pretty decent offshore bite. More quality that numbers, but the numbers aren't bad. Smallies, Spots, and Green Trout. I did not catch a fish out of less than 20 FOW. Multiple Spots over 16 inches and Smallies up to 18 inches. I had a LMB about 18 inches as well. Lots of lures working. Fish what you have confidence in. I see guys shallow pounding the flooded stuff. That just was not working for me. I am no longer interested in trying that. Lots of accidental walleye. I got 7 keeper walleye over the three days and another 5 shorts. The sure enough walleye guys should be able to do better. I have a couple of ideas that I'm gioing to try on them next time out. Multiple baits worked for them too. I wish I could find a magic bait that was really going to out perform other stuff, but I can't. Crappie are FINALLY biting as well. I had a limit Friday. I culled out a couple of 14 inch fish (with 12 inch crappie) and released one that was a hair under 16 inches. I had ZERO shorts which actually worries me a bit. Sunday I took a friend to show him a little bit of everything that was working. WIth the clouds and rain my crappie had mover. We only managed 15 keepers and a handful of shorts, but out average keeper was > 12 inches with half of them being > 14 inches. I prefer to release those, but he was keeping not me. BIG White bass are also available in the lower lake. I got several follows and bites on WTD lures only got one in the boat though. Trolling A rigs might be a real good option for those kind of folks. Great bite for as long as it lasts. Maybe to the end of the month ?
  2. Go ahead and tell me how easy it is for you to catch walleye any time you want to.
  3. This is one of the most irritating things about the lakes in the Ozarks. People swimming and fishing at BOAT LAUNCHES. They'll have lawn chairs and fishing gear set up from side to side on the rap and glare at you when you try to use the ramp for it's actual purpose. Why in the world would parents bring their children to a busy boat ramp to swim? It's crazy.
  4. Roll the dice and see what happens. Upper river is almost always an option especially if they run a little water which helps push dirty water downstream. You can still catch them with a little color in the water, but I would drive any distance to fish below Rim Shoals.
  5. That's a beast!
  6. I think the Cards were willing to give him a lot of dollars, but a max of 2-3 years. Ten year deals to an aging super star are TOO RISKY. Albert got paid. He was loved and well rewarded in St Louis. Someone filled his head with crap and he got his feelinngs hurt. Too bad for him that he left St Louis.
  7. You better throw it on braid or you're going to get your heart broken. You need at least a MH rod, but it doesn't have to be a pool cue. Sometimes fish do short strike, but they'll also crush it at times so it may have been fish behavior or operator error. Still a very fun way to fish.
  8. Don't sweat it Phil. Everybody has to learn the C&R thing. I don't EVER keep trout for myself, but it is a put and take fishery for the most part. There is NOTHING worng with people keeping trout, bu it is more fun for everybody else if they release the big ones for others to try to catch. I'm digging the old photos.
  9. I'd take a real hard look at the water guages and think about the amount of rain overnight that might be hitting that watershed.
  10. AT 50 cfs , YES. At 50 MW, in rare locations that you would need a boat to access.
  11. I enjoyed Boy Scouts. Troop 25 in Baker, Louisiana. We were a smallish Troop, but three of us made it to Eagle. We had good Dads that spent time with us. We did some camp outs and stuff. Scout camp was an annual event. BUT I would have hunted, fished, and camped with my father and friends anyway. I started fishing before I was five. I tried to get my son involved in scouting, but he wasn't interested and I wasn't going to force him to do it. I did help fund raise for the them for a few years.
  12. You da man. I wish I were you. It sucks to be me right now, but that changes come Wednesday.
  13. I don't mind you shooting rough fish with pointy sticks, but Good God man why now?
  14. Taney is Combat fishing. Just sayin.
  15. With all do respects, read the back story. It may be fair to claim that there's nothing new under the sun, but Ned K. refined this system and has caught multi-boat loads of fish in tough conditions with his little system. Your right in that it's a jig with a piece of worm, but the devil is in the details. Look the other way and let the other folks have their fun.
  16. I'm saddened to read this. I bought a little motor from Marty and met him in Lampe. We talked a little on line after that. He was by all impressions a good guy. Tough news.
  17. I fished a couple of hours (5pm to 7 Pm) this afternoon. I caught 33 on White River Zig Jigs. I left em biting. Lakes are on fire, but the White River is pretty dang good right now too.
  18. I had oil filled hubs on a trailer and loved it. No issues. Very easy to change oil if needed. I loved I could see the oil level. I wish I had it on my Bass Cat.
  19. Stockton seems to be a heck of a lake. Slap full of walleye. Lots of bass too.
  20. THAT'S A GREAT DEAL. No Fast N Friendl's in my area. Heck, most of the people around here are not fast nor friendly.
  21. I bought a pack of the Lake Fork ones to help the bait fall faster IF I wanted to work the bait deeper, BUT I always fish my stuff on the wacky jigs now. I really don't have much of a problem with hookset issues. You might want to take a look at that option.
  22. Ohhhhhhhh I won't ever give up on the spook. I will give it a decent try most days I fish between now and when I quit fishing the lake. I'll become a river rat when the bite slows during the summer.
  23. Have you tried using a surgeons loop that has been cut ? Split the loop so that it has a short arm (1/3 total length) and A LONG arm (2/3 total length). Tie the hook to the short arm and the weight to the long arm. You guys gut hooking with Power Bait? I feel certain your boys could use inline spinners and spoons. You get a lot of bites that you don't hook, but they would catch fish.
  24. I hope your sales go well Larry. Is there a entry fee in to the Salesapaloosa?
