  1. Being the Frugal Fly Fisherman myself....check at an Army / Navy surplus for all kinds of canvas over the shoulder bags. Actually one of the old gas mask bags works great. Dano
  2. Still got that nose for news doncha pal....hahahaha
  3. Soon as Phil gets back I'll point out the problem to him. We have lost some of these before and he has been able to retrieve them. Also folks who uploaded them may have taken them down. Dano
  4. I dug this up out of the archives. Might be of interest to you. Tippets are not identified by breaking strength. They are identified by their diameter in thousands of an inch. No matter who the manufacture is a 4X tippet should be .007" or it isn't 4X. This relates to the old process of drawing gut through ever smaller holes to obtain a final diameter for a gut leader. One draw was 1X or .010". Three draws resulted in a 3X rating or .008". The result of this consistent diameter measurement is that you always know you can get 7X tippet through the eye on a size 20 fly. The whole thing is governed by the rule of ELEVEN. The X rating and the diameter equal eleven. A 3X tippet is .008" and 8 plus 3 equals eleven. A 7X tippet is .004" and 7 plus 4 equals 11. See what I mean? Fly Size divided by 4 plus 1 equals the X number you should use Size 8 fly divided by 4 equals 2 plus 1 is size 3x tippet....so on and so on. This is just a guide and nothing more. Dano
  5. Haven't fished Crooked this year, but plenty of time on the Buffalo. Most I have caught this year were 13 to 18" it seems.
  6. Had to be early 60's probably prior to 65. Over in East Ark.
  7. I remembered "gas wars" years ago when competing stations did the same. I don't recall any legal actions, but that may have been before lawyers. I recall in the early 60's you could pick up a gal of fuel for 11 cents during these "wars".
  8. Leonard is "right on".
  9. Atta Boy pal.
  10. Glad to have you!
  11. Yes sir and had a blast as always.
  12. Enjoyed the read.
  13. Fishing was slow for me this morning but a glass rod and solitude made for a special morning on the Buffalo. Started off fishing this hopper pattern and landed this lil 13" Ozark bass on top. Things slowed a bit and started fishing deep with a clouser and then switched to a chartreuse colored bugger. It was fairly windy and I am not sure if that contributed to the slow bite. Naturally water is extremely warm. Also flows are slow but there are still plenty of deep holes that hold good bass. Fishing above and below the Hasty access. Dano
  14. +Ronnie, nice shot of Ursa Major... .and what camera were you using. Some great crisp shots.
  15. You just have to fish on the bottom no matter what you are using, except for a pete as Gavin says.
  16. Good news!
  17. For the tailwaters, I would recommend a 9 ft or 10ft, 5 wt. You can't go wrong with a Cortland Peach, that's the 444 in wf.
  18. Actually I do like the hat....and this from a guy who has had a skin cancer removed. The sun can be relentless and dangerous.
