  1. The jellyfish have been in the lakes for over 20 years that I know of. No problems yet.
  2. Only the grape ones, but they are few and far between.
  3. It's amazing how quick and easy things happen. After my bone marrow transplant and chemo and I was finally released to go fishing again, I was in a buddy's boat and we pulled up to a remote ramp, and I jumped out like I had a thousand times before. One foot slipped and my knee prompt cried foul as it hyper extended. Took weeks for it to be "right" again. Because I walked differently for a while it made the other hip and my back hurt. Getting old isn't for wimps!
  4. Some bleach and drying time are good too. We have to spray every down with bleach and let the boat set out in the sun for usually a week if we take our work boat to a different body of water, just to be sure.
  5. JD, true crocs are only somewhat better. They are horribly slick on the inside when they are wet. Always marketed as wading shoes but one of the worst for that use. I can see where when worn down they would be slickery for sure.
  6. I should probably add that I may be the world's worst lake bass fisherman. I am usually throwing a crankbaits on the lake, only pretending to bass fish and hoping a walleye or white bass or something else eats it instead. On a creek or river them little things are deadly, even back before I knew it had a name, we just called them do nothings, but you could lift them up and let the current bounce them around and "POW", oh man I am getting fishing fever just thinking about it. Gonna have to find me a tutor for lake bass, but not during crappie spawn, or the white bass or walleye spawn, or the fall bite or. . . . Wait I might see my problem.
  7. Blocky head on that rascal. Nice fish though.
  8. I will admit to being the odd man out. On creeks and rivers I have caught the heck out of smallies and goggle eye but have caught crap in a lake on them, maybe I just don't fish them enough or something I aint doing right.

    What's Cooking?

My wife had a recipe she has been wanting to try called baked eggs, or Mediterranean baked eggs or something like that. looked extremely good, similar sort of thing. I don't believe I have even had stuffed cabbage rolls, I have had stuffed grape leaves at a Lebanese restaurant in Springfield, hey were good, a little different in texture and flavor but good. Don't know that I would order them again. Also had some of the darkest, strongest, most evil coffee I have ever drank there, bottom 1/4 of the cup was all grounds, supposedly they Lebanese stirred it up and drank it grounds and all. I tried and nearly choked to death on the grounds, I ended up putting a dash of cold water to settle the grounds out to drink the coffee, had a little cardamom in it which was also different for me.
  10. You said a mouthfull there. And it could definitely have been worse. Many a slip and fall in a boat by a lone fisherman has resulted in a fall overboard and body recovery, would probably be even more problematic in a river.
  11. Switch to crappie fishing, you might not catch any crappie but the darn bass just can't leave the little jig alone.
  12. I feel bad about picking on SmallieBiggs for a day or 2. Can we make fun of Hogwally for passing out, we can't just let that slide can we? Did you get the blood washed out of the boat and windscreen fixed.
  13. I used to see mink around occasionally but has been a while. Otters are still unusual but not surprising. See lots of piles of scat on docks too.

Johnsfolly, that is a delicious looking plate. You had me at the crappie fillets, then just kept making it better.

    What's Cooking?

Now certainly looks good enough to eat. Could grace any deer camp in the state.
  16. Do the wallys move up shallow again in the fall? Wondering if I fish from the bank near the dam at dark his fall if there is much chance of catching any. Guess I don't have much to lose but a few hours of time.
  17. Link works just fine on my phone. The blobs are called Bryozoans.

    What's Cooking?

Sounds good, now I gotta go look it up to see what it is supposed to look like. Well a quick search shows it can look like almost anything.
  19. Datum man that is quite a wound. I have always said flip flops are the product of evil, I know seveal folks who have ended up in casts because of them. However you are the only one I know of who got stitches, and 54 of them even. The finished product sort of gives you an old time mobster look.
  20. Champ, I guarantee I could have gotten that hook out for you. It most likely wouldn't have been as sterile, or easy, and would have been more painful, but we could have shot a video and shown multiple ways of how NOT to remove a hook. Just a thought.

    What's Cooking?

Agreed, stuffed cabbage soup sounds like a fantastic idea for a cool fall or winter day.
  22. That would be a smallmouth bass

    What's Cooking?

Mmm stuffed cabbage. Chief I have an even easier lasagna recepie. First it involves convincing the wife to make her traditional lasagna. Then go fishing, hunting, whatever. Come back just as it comes out of the oven. Timing is evwrything. I love reheated lasagna for breakfast.

  25. MSHP ordered to pay $5,000 and attorney fees, that will teach them a lesson. "As long as you are wearing that uniform, you’ll testify the way you are told.” That statement right there if accurate is about as wrong as it gets. Sergeant Henry is about the only individual in this whole sad affair I have much respect for.
