  1. When I was younger it might have been an even tougher choice, because I really liked to deer hunt. now it might hinge more on whether deer camp is a tent and some freeze dried meals and home has steak etc., or deer camp is in a cabin and we eat well.
  2. A bunch on my early ones were splitting due to the wet weather. We could possibly do a zucchini type raid, everybody bring as many tomatoes as we can gather, wait till Ness is away from house, and cover the porch with maters.
  3. They are coming on strong at my house too. My wife, daughter and friends are planning on having a "Pico Party" on Saturday, they will make a huge bowl of Pico and then spend the day playing games and eating it, they like it chunky, but being a lazy sort I tend to run them through a food processor instead of chopping/dicing them. Pulse it just a little long and you can pour it into a glass to drink, thinking this year I will add a little vodka to mine and simply enjoy the day quietly. My purple Cherokees haven't starting turning yet, but the others, are putting out, the Beefmasters and Beefsteaks, Celebrity, mortgage lifters, jet star, heck I am not even sure what else is in there, but they are doing well, squash have about quit, but still are providing all I want, cukes have slowed down but still putting out as well. Sweet Corn should be about ready, but it looks so yellow and sad I haven't checked, but the coons have been checking for me. The canteloupes are looking good too, it was so wet for so long I couldn't get into the garden, I opted to spray them with Arrow, which is a grass killer, seems to be doing the job, and now that it is dry enough to get into the garden, my tiller has decided to throw a bearing. That's how it goes.
  4. darn that is a conundrum.

That looks and sounds fabulous, also with the brie cracker and mater combo.
  6. Nice one! Wish you had the big one to take a pic with.
  7. NICE!! I came by several times, but usually by the time I got there it was pretty late and things were happening elsewhere on the lake, Wheatland is usually pretty quiet. Glad you had a good time, wish I could have made contact with ya. I even had my coffee cup with me!
  8. I am more of the sort that has to clean stuff out of my boat before I can go to the lake. Things tend to accumulate on it, from extra rods and tackle boxes to jackets and rain gear drying out from the last trip. So what if it was over a month ago.

I don't like soggy bread either, I am careful to drain as much liquid from the slaw as I can first, and then make sure it goes on top of the meat, however it seems to always get a little soggy, but I usually eat like a starving coyote pup anyway so it seldom has much chance to get soggy. And I don't like toasted sammich buns, the closest I can handle are some out of a Panini press, and they just seem to be chewy instead of toasted. If anything gets toasted it will be me.
  10. Found these Bolete growing in my front yard yesterday. Didn't take a pic of he underside but it looks like sponge instead of gills. Told my friend that likes them so much to come and get them.
  11. Being a good hillbilly I solved most of my trailer light problems by parking the truck out at the shop and putting very short tack weld on the receiver, basically welding the insert to the receiver. Short enough its easy to grind off to remove, but will certainly ground through nicely. As for lights, I have never had one go out from use, from hitting things yes. At work we tell/teach employees to unplug the lights before backing into the water, personally I have never unplugged them. I have to replace the trailer lights at work every couple years from either damage or corrosion inside the lights. I probably need to check mine at home at put some more grease on the contacts, they sell the tiny little pouches of lightbulb grease at most automotive supply places, I have used 100% silicone spark plug grease, not real sure if it is the same stuff or not.

I love a slice of "Real" baloney on a sandwich, and pulled pork would just be better, add the slaw on top, I prefer the creamy style and it is even better.

    What's Cooking?

I am most definitely a crock pot fan for many many things. I do love smoking stuff and messing with a smoker just because its fun, but for the sheer simplicity and ease of use nothing beats a crock pot. You can put dang near anything in a crock pot, add seasoning and liquids, turn it on and go to work, when you come home, it is ready. I have lost count of the number of things we have put in at night before bed, let cook all night and have them for lunch or take to a church pot luck. Always end up waking up in the middle of the night thinking what is that smell, mmmmmmm.
  14. Friend had found some chanterelle, sautéed they up and they was delicious. We usually see corals more in the later summer to fall it seems like, but have eaten them too, not bad.
  15. Years ago I had a Co worker that had problems with squirrels eating his tomatoes, since he lived out in the country he would shoot them with a .22 Mag. One day he shot at one that had a tomato in its paws and missed and hit the mater. After that he would set on his porch drinking beer and try to blow up tomatoes as they ate them. He said he enjoyed that more than shooting them. He was a bit odd, I would have used my .22 Hornet.
  16. Agreed, your friend couldn't have asked for a better memorial. Kids and fishing, you can't beat that.
  17. Wednesday ther were lots of shad schools roaming around the Pomme arm. But I wasn't fishing so I can't help there. I used to fish all year but lately have become a wuss when hot weather comes around.
  18. Oneshot, we used to can a lot of carp. Mostly mom would make patties out of it sort of like a crab cake, dad and I were known to simply open a jar and eat it from the jar too. Back then we trot lined for them with cottonseed cake, you could sure pile up the carp, probably still can, haven't known anyone to trot line for carp in a long time.
  19. Thanks, I should have pointed out that the monthly check up and treatment are not a chemo treatment. I do get an IV infusion of some stuff that strengthens and rebuilds bones, down side of it is that sometimes it really leaves me feeling like I was in a car wreck for a couple days. I do take a daily chemo pill (that call it maintenance) but normally it doesn't make me sick, just sort of a drain on energy. I can always tell whether I am going to see the NP or Oncologist. NP usually 2 or 3 vials of blood drawn, if Dr. then usually 5, he does like to see all the tests.
  20. Hell yeah! It's always a good feeling to go to the cancer doc and get good news. I go see mine tomorrow for my monthly visit and treatment.

    What's Cooking?

I have chunked them up into pieces (with the pithy center and seeds removed) and put into a crock pot roast in place of taters before, just don't over cook them or they will really turn to mush. Chunk some up, put in a pot with some coconut milk and curry spices, cook until fork tender, (or use crab boil mix) then add some peeled shrimp at the end. (Note I made that one up completely since I don't like curry or coconut milk). heck I bet you slice them, and layer them in a baking dish and spook lasagna sauce over them and bake them like lasagna, with cheese.

    What's Cooking?

What kind or size of squash. Big zucchini can be split in half, and baked or nuked, filled with cheese of your liking and bacon pieces. Smaller ones can be sliced and fried, or sautéed into whatever spice you like from salt/pepper to curry. I like grilling them, slice either longwise or I usually slice diagonally and paint with garlic butter before and during grilling. Squash is generally generic enough that your imagination is pretty much the only limitation.
  23. And worse than the ones that don't know anything are the adults that know just enough to get themselves into trouble and think they know everything. Can't count the number of times I have watched such folks backing or at least trying to back a boat trailer, as long as it is an open ramp and there aren't any obstacles they can do OK, but like on Pomme where several of the ramps have lane dividers in them, it can be almost comical to watch, everything from a tire up on the divider, to popped tires, to boats "pre-launched". I have been guilty of many things safety related, the worst is not wearing MY PFD on those short runs, but it stays clipped to the kill switch and usually it is in the way unless I wear it. That individual in the video, was clueless as to how a boat fully trimmed out handles wakes and rough water. I used to have a short Champion 17 ft i believe with a 150 on the back, first trip I opened it up and it started chine walking all over the place, best advice I was given was, that throttle doesn't have to be all the way open, seldom ran in wide open, it was just too squirrely. In all actuality he got off fairly lucky, no permanent disabling injuries and didn't appear to be any damage to the boat that I noticed.

    What's Cooking?

Skillet supper. Found a great big zuchini, peeled it, removed seeds, chunked and tossed it in with some sliced up lolish sausage. Also a plate of garden fresh maters, and big bowl of cukes, onions and small maters that go with every meal as long as the cukes last. Won't ever win any contests but nobody turns it down either. Nown if I could just figure out how to grow polish sausage in the garden I would be set.
