New Model Lund - Tease
MOPanfisher replied to rps's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Well the cover and paint job look nice. -
AKgeek, I will be working around the lake this weekend, will try to stop by for a minute and say howdy. What site.
-
Lamest and best smelling thing I have made for a while. A couple of ploska kiabasa sliced diagonally, and a pile of fresh from the muddy garden squash chunked up. Let the sausage start browning a little then tossed in the squash. No lid that big so a piece of foil became a lid, shook on a little seasoning, added a little water for steam and dad gum it smells good.

Agreed Chillfish. A buddy of mine tried spearfishing them, and said it's not nearly as easy as it seems to be either.
-
AK Geek, one of the old rules on Pomme was to keep a blue chrome rattle trap rigged up on a rod and ready to throw at a moments notice. Sometimes they just can't resist it, crank it FAST.

My daughter wanted to me to help pick out some flowers and plants to liven up he hour they just moved into. Not being a nomal dad, I purchased a big container, (it was cheap) filled it with some potting soil I had on hand, dug up 3 of my multiple volunteer tomato plants. Should be cherry tomatoes, all I was allowed to pretend to garden last summer, will include a bag of miracle grow with instructions to water he container daily but not use the miracle grow every day, don't want them to take over her yard. So good daddy or bad daddy. Also have several redbud sprouts I can transplant to her yard, probably won't tell her landlord, and wait till fall for them. BTW both she and my 2 yrs old grandson love little maters.

My wife absolutely loves fried green tomatoes. I used to enforce a rule about no fried green ones until we get a ripe one. But there will be more than enough.

Experiences with Carp on Ozark lakes
MOPanfisher replied to blacknoseddace's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
I used to sort of do that as a kid. Old glass fly rod, with a tough hook and a small grasshopper. Get it in front of them and watch them suck it in, then hold on. Had a lot of fun in ponds doing that. Of course we used to trot line for caro, and rod/reel fish for them too, even ate more than a few. We didn't know we was poor white trash, just liked to catch and eat them. Only ate the ones from the lakes, not pond fish. Canned, deep fried like auckers, and my favorite, scaled and be headed and gutted. Put them in a big dish add lemon slices or juice and a couple slices of onion. Bake till it falls off the bone. Easy to pick out the bones the, sticky rich and you could avoid the red streak if you wanted. Again we didn't know any better we just thought they was tasty. -
Years ago we used to use plain old red worm for suckers, have caught them in Taneycomo and loaded out and had some ask how I did, pulled out a stringer of suckers. He muttered something about stupid city people and walked away. Whatever buddy I will eat them suckers over a trout every time.

I have lots and lots of tomatoes but almost never have a ripe one by July 4th. Although I may well have eaten a few green ones fried by then.

That wok looks awesome.

I am all for respecting other folks, as long as the respect is returned. I have heard a lot of music on the lakes, some I like some I don't, but as long as it isn't causing my rod tip to vibrate, eh I just ignore them, as those types don't stick around long usually. Don't get me wrong it irritates the crap out of me. Sometimes you get the distinct smell of marijuana as well. My favorite folks are the ones who have their radio tuned to a baseball game and fish slowly, I don't watch baseball, haven't since the strike in 93, however for some reason I enjoy listening to it on the radio, reminds me of old times with the window on the truck down, sitting on a shoreline fishing while the Cardinals play. I once fished behind a guy who had a ball game on his radio just so I could listen. Gangsta rap stuff is ridiculous, I have friends who are as WASP as they come who listen to that "stuff", simply don't understand it.

Looks good still. I have been on a quick and easy system, tonight was nothing more than browned hamburger and a can of dirty rice fixing, stor it in and done. Sadly a bout of bronchitis or something has taken my sense of smell and taste so even though I know how things are supposed to taste, but if I couldn't see it I wouldn't know what it was. Very soon some small zucchinis and yellow squash will be invited for supper, gonna be ticked if I can't taste my fresh veggies. He last fresh produce was bets, wrapped in foil and roasted on grill to keep the heat out of the house. Slipped off the peelings, chunked them up, shook a little seasoning on them and wrapped them back up on the grill. The texture was just what I expected, unfortunately no taste of them either. THIS SUCKS.

Well it's summer again and aftwr last year being forced to dtay away from it, i am back into gardening and its time for me to drag out 6 or 8 various soaker hoses, sprinklere etc. in a misguided attempt to find one that is worth using. After giving up on 3 soaker hoses, I finally fell back on the one device that always works, a stupid looking ceramic bull frog that spews out a conical mist from the top. Doesn't do a large spot at a time though, and if windy it blows the mist everywhere but where I need it, so when really dry it's a constant dance of moving the dang thing, with various aborted attempts to get other sprinklers to work. I don't have raised beds, both main gardens are large enough that I work them with a tractor so fixed pvc piping is a lost cause. The crops like corn, beans and Cantelouopes I usually make a ditch along he row and simply slowly flood the ditch, adding the occasional board with a V notch to dam up the water. Does anybody know of a sprinkler system that is reliable, meaning that if I go out after a couple hours it hasn't hung up and flooded one area and left another high and dry, or should I keep using the frog.

For those that follow Pomme: This week we will begin our drawdown from 841.0 target elevation back to 839.0 target elevation. This year it will coincide with a MSHP & SPFD swift water training event. The MSHP during the day and the SPFD for a couple hours or night ops on the river. As a result we have started the stepped increases with the goal of being at 1500 CFS by 0700 this morning (Tuesday), and will run 1500 CFS through sometime Thursday Afternoon. According to the Engineer types we should be right at the 839.0 elevation when it is completed.

Coyotes are very happy to find small dogs, and cats in farm country. Most cats and small dogs learn quickly that to tangle with coyotes is a death sentence. Quick stories, have had two dogs that had run ins with coyotes, one was a big full blood German Shepard, he could hold his own against one in a fight, though he would get cut up some, they finally quit testing him, ended up with a coyote girlfriend, for a couple years after his death there was a beautiful light tan (same color as him) coyote around, I tried my best to get a shot at it but it was pretty spooky. Second story is about a black lab mix mutt that lived in our yard, big muscle bound idiot. My father looked out one day and there was a single coyote (likely a female), sitting in the open in full view. Dad figured out pretty quick that it was a trap for the dog, but waited to see what he would do. Big dumb dog, slid through the fence and went out to see this exotic young piece of hotness. About 20 yards short of her, two other coyotes closed in behind him. By this time dad had a .30-06 and was leaning against the porch post, ready to cover the yard dogs retreat, but it happened too fast for him to do anything. The big mutt recognized what was about to happen to him, swapped ends and literally ran over/through the other two like they were kittens and possibly set a new land speed record on the way back to the yard. Dad say he was laughing too hard to shoot by then anyway. a little bit later, the female was back, but yard dog wasn't falling for it again and they gave up. Suspect they have used that trick before successfully.

Sounds like you about the perfect trip.

Those little criks I used to fish here when I was a kid have mostly filled with gravel and mud. There used to be some slick rock sections that were a 3 stooges act when wading them. Floods, agricultural uses, cattle, no riparian protection have combined to ruin a lot of those skinny waters around home.

I have been in a hammock I considered comfortable. I have been in a tent in a rain storm also wind and even a little hail, would much rather be in the tent than a storm than a hammock. If you have to have a hammock and a tarp, just have a small tent, about the same size. Good luck on the float.

New to Forum and Crappie/Bass/Walleye/Catfish fishing
MOPanfisher replied to Alaskageek's topic in Pomme De Terre Lake
Well now Jim it looks like you are gonna be in my playground, if I can I will stop by and say hi. Summer for me is tough, fish are here but I am too lazy, busy, sweat too easily, and certainly don't like the holiday weekend crowds enough to join them. However I think I may have seen you and or your dad before. Might have been 2 years ago, in the fall I think, Sapps landing area on Truman. Alaska registered boat trolling for white bass. Not too many AK registered boats around. At the time they were trolling for whites we were tearing up nice crappie along that same stretch, working white jigs around the stumps. Fall can be very very good on Pomme and Truman, and LOZ too. -
My wife invented a new dish tonight. Creamy biscuit/gravy soup. OK, reality it was a batch of sausage gravy on which her racticed eye failed her and it wouldn't thicken. No problem, put it in soup bowls and use the biscuits like crackers. Seemed good although honestly I couldn't tell, allergies, bronchitis, Zika something has killed all sense of taste and smell for the last week.

Sadly most around here will have cattle in them this time of year.
-
Awesome. I love those little creeks. Around here I normally find green sunfish, some punkinseds, and maybe a wormy bass or two depending on how long it has been since the water was up. BUT you just never know what will come out of them.

I had to google Patty Pan squash. Hmm appears to be what we used to call scalloped squash, I have eaten lots of them when I was younger but don't plant them any more. I like zucchini most any way except as zucchini bread. I like the over sized ones sliced about 1/4 inch thick and grilled hot and fast while brushing with garlic butter. I also love acorn and butternut squash. Ness that pile of food looks almost good enough to eat!

The bad part is I have made the cruise through town dropping off zukes, cukes and whatever else. Then park at the gas station and come out to find someone had put produce in my truck. Guess turn about is fair play. Got a pretty good system now, the small public library has a produce table where if you have extra produce bring it in and leave it, free stuff only. Other folks come in and take some home.
