I don't remember ever seeing that information posted at a river access but I don't use too many of them though. It has been the law for many years, at least as long as I can remember.

A little Cajun seasoning, a sheet of foil on a set cake pan, little melted butter, a few minutes on a hot grill. Mmmmmm. Flake them up and put them in a warm flour tortilla with some greens or whatever else you like. Make you want to fillet every white bass you catch and hybrids are even better.

Just don't get caught. This is a cut and paste from the MDC website. From February 20 through April 14, walleye and sauger can be taken and possessed only between 1/2 hour before sunrise and 1/2 after sunset. This restriction applies to all streams, except the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

Haven't heard a lot on bass fishing. Crappie were decent on the upper ends, laydowns near the channel, but last night with the river coming up it wasn't as sweet. If river settles down and isn't too muddy, it was warmer there than the main lake. We did catch a bunch of little bass last weekend up the river, LM, SM and K's, nothing large. There were a lot of little white bass as well with a few larger ones mixed in, but with the rain and river up slightly they may well have moved on up the rivers. Don't be afraid to find some brush piles in the 20-25' range and work them slowly with a jig, likely would pick up some crappie if wind does get too bad. Sorry that is all I can provide.

Nice walleye, but what does the "it went 15.5" and 16.5" on a 25" walleye mean? I saw on the duplicate thread that the 15.5 and 16.5 were additional wallys, heck yeah!

I will admit I had to look the word up.

You have my prayers and positive thoughts as well.

I bought one of the little diamond knife sharpeners, it has folding handles and is tapered more like a diamond grit ice pick. Simply run the length of the sharpener through each serration, it starts in the center and sharpens out to the points. Takes a few minutes but will make a big difference. Shouldn't take but a few passes on each serration, of course there are two blades. So while not a major exercise, for me it requires my reading glasses and a little patience. Also I found out if you over sharpen them and make really sharp points on the serrations the blade has a tendency to catch on bones and even go through the spine easily, so only 2 or 3 strokes per serration should make a big difference.

I am not even sure how old that knife is, it was a cheap one. Bought a Mister Twister several years ago expecting it to croak, but new one is still in package. Have sharpened the old knife a couple time but it still works great. The only use for a 12 volt knife is if you simply don't have any AC electricity available.

That's part of the reason why water is not released heavily in advance of a predicted rain event. Actually here the rain has been perfect, 7 tenths of an inch. hay fields are greening up by the minute, some wheat fields must have gotten fertilized before the rain because they are turning a wonderful dark green and my strawberries that I fertilized a few days ago and looking lively. even got a little additional flow in the rivers, should make fishing even better, as I don't think it is enough to muddy it up, just warm it up and raise it a little.

Gentlemen, Check your trailer tires
MOPanfisher replied to Ham's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Time for me to replace the original tires on my trailer, I assume they are the bias ply type. Planning on going to a radial type for better use and wear. Anything else I need to think about on the tires, brand etc. -
Chris, I couldn't catch a summer walleye on a bet, but in the spring, right now for another few weeks take yourself over to the dam area at Stockton. Cloudy & rainy is perfect, fish either end of the dam, east end has fewer people usually but you have to willing and able to walk the riprap a ways to get out where the fish are, west end anywhere from the spillway down to below the COE office, fight your way through the brush and start throwing a clown suspending rogue. throw it as far as you can, give it a couple of quick hard pulls to get a little depth on it, and then s-l-o-w-l-y reel it back in. when you feel it start hitting the rocks lift up your rod and work it back past the shallows. hits will usually happen right at the shallow/deep break. When you get tired of throwing the rogue, pick up second rod rigged with a big hook 1/8 oz. jig head and a plastic body of your choosing, paddle tail, curly tail your choice in a fairly bright color, throw it as far as you can. Give it a 5 count, then start working it back till it hits rocks, lift rod and work it back in. Again hits seem to happen right at the break or sometimes in the shallows. right after dark when its tough to see to re-tie seems to be the best, and likely you will loose a jig or two, possibly even a rogue but not often. Hip boots or waders are handy as they let you wade out a little way to clear the brush, a hat type light is also handy. Since its lake you can fish as late as you want or all night long. Other options are to find a river with an access and a good hole of water, wait for a rain to add a little flow and color and throw jigs at them, but there is a time limit on rivers, I think 30 minutes after sunset but not sure. Can't catchem if you don't get out there.

It certainly won't hurt any. So far the rain has been just perfect to get the pastures, wheat fields etc. really going. Not much run off yet, however ground is good and wet so if another big rain hits today or tomorrow it could add some runoff and warmth to the lake. There is a slight bump in the creeks and rivers from what we have already but not much.

Nothing soothes quite as fast as properly administered narcotics, like a soft warm blanket you wrap yourself in when in real pain. Glad it passed so quickly hope I never have to experience it for myself, although my family history says my time is coming.

Only been out twice so far Saturday and tonight so species count is not much but, bluegill, small mouth, largemouth, white bass, black crappie, and tonight walleye and a kentucky.

It was truly jack weather this evening. Windy, rainy but not cold. Couldn't stand it. Came home from work, changed clothes, grabbed a couple rods, kissed wife and headed to a secret location on Stockton. Fished for an hour in the rain and wind throwing a rogue, nothing. Switched to a jig I could throw a little further and promptly caught one of Walcrabass's Kentuckies about 12 inches long. Watched a guy about 50 yards away catch at least 4 wallys. Finally got a whack and reeled in a keeper, then 3 more in about 15 minutes. Certainly nothing of any real size, but all big enough to earn a hot oil bath. 3 males and 1 female, she wasn't spawn ready yet. I am not a very good walleye fisherman but even a blind sow finds an acorn occasionally.

No. Lake levels are not reduced based on predicted rainfall. The lake level is 839.29 or so right around conservation pool so we have plenty of storage capacity if needed.

Well I actually took some pics but my phone has swallowed it butt so I can't resize them to post. ANYWAY, tonight was some boneless pork chops cut from a whole pork loin, some real green beans out of the freezer and some au gratin taters. Now for the downer, allergies are attacking me and allergy meds completely kill my taste buds. Every one said it was all good but other than a slight vinegar hit from the beans it all tastes the same. Sure looked tasty though.

Mother nature would be the deciding factor for me. If she give a nice rain and bring up the river a little I certainly would give that a try, if it rolls big I would prowl the points around the dam.

The forecast I watch is showing a couple inches here in Polk County. Supposed to be more to south, but haven't seen any huge amounts given maybe the 4 to 5 inches. Spring rains are a part of life, normally 5 inches would be in 3 or more events but we have no control over it.

Always seems ro be hit or miss below truman. I haven't been this year so I can't give any current information. The locals fish it every night and are there on the good days, the rest of us just have to get lucky. And my luck ain't that good anymore.
-
Wow, there was one up around the Hickory Benton County line Monday that burned up a couple trailers and several acres also.
-
Oneshot was that the fire up on Truman? I heard about, sadly you can't force common sense on folks.

My cold frame has some lettuce popping up nicely, haven't checked close enough to see if radishes and spinach ate also up or not. I fully expect to have some wilted lettuce by tax day. I used to do the whole sprouting seeds thing but got lazy and always started too early and had to partially dig a post hole to plant the long tall maters. I will have the early stuff in the big garden by late March, and later crops in April. IF I don't get distracted by fishing, and I do hope I get distracted.
