  1. Yep she was running about 2500 cfs a little but ago. Storm came through raining hard but moving fast.
  2. Hmm there are interviews of very nice lady named Diane Feinstein. I believe saying she would outlaw all gun if she could, and there are other like her. Believe me or not but I not of of the "we should be able to own anything we want" crowd, but there are folks who would outlaw them all as if it would work anyway.
  3. I was at the ramp Monday. No debris to worry about, however was was up in the transition area where the slope isn't as steep, so you would be out in the water a little way before boat floats probably. Also courtesy dock is no where near useable, will have to pull boat up on the pavement while you park.
  4. Unless we get some sort of rain event large enough to shut down outflow, I expect to keep it rolling. We will get cut back to 2800 CFS at some point, but will roll with that for quite a while. Some day I will get to hit the lake again. (October). My dad used to say you are never more than 2 weeks from a drought in Missouri (might be three right now).
  5. Yeah I see it, hopefully it falls apart, or slides north of us.
  6. Gonna be a while. Even rolling 3500 cfs releases for now. Best projection is average 6 inches day (not there yet)so best guess 40 days, with no rain. Give or take some.
  7. There are times and places where farming the "system" is much more profitable than farming thr ground for sure.

    What's Cooking?

Some generous soul brought a bag of XXL cucumbers to church today so I snagged one. While grill was heating for pork steaks, I mixed a solution of apple cider vinegar, white vinegar, red apple balsamic, sugar, black pepper, and dill. Put it in a large sauce pan to heat up, then sliced a couple small yellow Spanish onions, and peeled an sliced the cuke. Tossed the onion s into the liquid as it heated up. Once it was rolling hot poured it over the sliced cukes for a quick pickle. Added ice and some water to chill it down. By the time the pork steaks were done the cukes and onions were perfectly chilled. Must have been pretty good, my 17 yr old son nearly foundered on the cukes and onions. And neighbor just stopped by to drop off a couple zucchini, life is good, God is Great. Tis the season when if you don't want cukes and squash you better lock you car doors and post a sign in your yard otherwise they magically appear.
  9. Everything that is done management wise on large and or public waters is a compromise. Between biology, enforcement, publics ability to understand and follow, user needs (fishing vs. Recreational boaters), politics, $ etc.

    What's Cooking?

I have done tastings of the different flavors before, like little shot glasses. Delicious, but still makes my guts roll and jump.

    What's Cooking?

Billethead I love caprese salad, makes a great hot weather supper, although balsamic makes my stomach do funny things.
  12. Since I teach it to our employees one thing that I beat them up uver is during docking when the passenger reaches over to grab the dock. Obviously they have never seen a boat take a big wake and crush a hand between boat and dock. Another one I harp on is never approach a dock faster than you are willing to crash into it if the engine dies.

    What's Cooking?

No just a hifalutin word don't want to make Joe feel uncomfortable. Besides I have no idea what the actual cost on these were they is home grown by a friend I just smokes them and coats em with a home made BBQ sauce. They are all stupidly tender right now awaiting consumption in a few hours. I may have already had my fill so a cold beer maybe two if my wife isn't watching, and sides may be my supper.

    What's Cooking?

Mmmmmmmm, I would eat it. But the word sauerkraut may be too hifalutin (who would have thought that hifalutin would make it past spell check?). I got to go get the brisket and chickens out of the smoker for tonight's late July 4th party.
  15. As a side effect yes. But it also allows the guy who used to be outdoors all the time but grew old to access it, or the young family to introduce their kids to nature there as well, or maybe the guy/gal who lost their legs in combat to experience it as well.
  16. Even a good shoot is likely to cause legal issues. However I would never not protect myself or family based on that concern. The great thing about a Constitutionally guaranteed right is that you don't have to exercise it for it to be valid. You do have to watch the political process which would happily strip all rights in the name of what's good for you.
  17. Definitely no habitat = no quail. There is something else missing in a lot of CAs, most of the intensive quail management areas are not increasing numbers of birds, but they are decreasing slower that the rest of the areas. I like the sound of beagles better than watching bird dogs anyway. Rabbits are on an upswing around here.
  18. Creepy guns don't scare me, creepy people scare me very much.
  19. Debris is hit or miss, no pun intended. I have seen some all the way to dam, obviously the upper ends are going to have more. As for fishing all I haven't got a clue. Several boats out but haven't had a chance to talk to any of them.
  20. Here is a crazy story from not too long ago. Note, I didnt see the very beginning so I don't how long if any they spent in setting up. A fairly young couple, 30 or so, large suburban type vehicle, pulling a new Caravelle cabin cruiser looking thing. The man backed most of the way down the ramp with only minor corrections, then got out and climbed into the boat. The woman got in the vehicle and backed it the rest of the way, a little slow and jerky but did well. Deep enough to start motor and let warm up for a few moments, purring lime a kitten, them she backed him the rest of the way in and he back smoothly off the trailer, she parked in the lot and returned to the courtesy dock. The man/driver approached the dock at idle speed at the correct angle, back throttled and steered perfectly enough the woman simply stepped aboard and no part of the boat ever touched the dock. Off they went at idle speed until past the buoys. Total elapsed time maybe 4 minutes. The man was quite friendly and even offered assistence to the jet ski trying to get started next to them. The woman was for lack of a better description "classy". Be aware they do exist, but we might not notice them as they don't stick around long, and they may be coming to a lake near you.
  21. You can create the best quail habitat around, but if there are no birds to populate it well it does make good rabbit hunting.
  22. You gotta admit that here at OA the topics are varied, sometimes within a single topic. From drug busts at CA s, to the Brandon Ellingson tragedy, to heroin and prescription drug abuse and drugs in our waterways, and ALL of them are valid concerns.
  23. Have plenty of video of 3500 cfs release, not much to look at, splashes a little more. The far point at the harbor is stranded as water is over the road. The vault toilet at the boat ramp is only a couple inches above the water level right now.
  24. Just like in a police car (which is what the boat is essentially), if you are in custody, you are handcuffed per protocol, which also dictated a type I PFD properly attached, that part wasn't followed.
  25. Jtram, no need to bristle up, nobody even suggested you were "that guy". you asked for conversation well here it is.
