Walleye are the master of the boats idea "patooey". I have gotten to where I won't wait for my fishing buddy to get the net, if I get it to the edge of 5he boat I will swing it in, unless too big, but depending on rod I can swing in some pretty good ones. You would surprised how many fall off into the boat. Crappie, last year was an awesome year for big crappie, but this year I haven't gotten to try them and won't until fall at best. How busy was the traffic on the lake, wondered if they stayed through the storms or bailed and went home.

Ssssshhhhhhh. There are no walleye in Pomme. Catch your bass and leave. LoL. Good to see someone catching them on Pomme I have been able to get out since first week of April. Last year when we were whacking big crappie I took my wife and she put a whooping on me with the slabs.

Fishing Guides - Making money on tax dollars?
MOPanfisher replied to WettinLine's topic in General Angling Discussion
Environmental factors can create or destroy a fishery, fishing pressure has some effect but nearly as much. Slot limits are good on certain populations but not on all. -
The trout in the original post made it for 54 days on a straight corn diet, they didn't die.

Fishing Guides - Making money on tax dollars?

Interesting, I know a few retired guys that in the spring are on the water nearly every day, they enjoy taking out friends or family to fish. They know exactly where the fish are and what they are hitting on, however they are not paid, should the friends/family of the retired guy be prohibited from keeping fish too? I would think prohibiting the keeping of fish on guided tips would either kill the business or drive it completely underground. I have been fishing many a time with folks who were on the fish, but just because I was in some cases standing right next to them didn't mean I could catch the dang things too. -
I believe the original post had data from a study of fish fed strictly corn and those fed pellets. The difference was in the growth rate, not life or death. Very little whole kernal corn is fed to farm animals, to difficult to digest, cracked, rolled, ground etc. works much better and is more effecient. Catching tround on corn I suspect there is a higher percentage of deep hooked fish, much like there is with worms etc., but I don't think it is suficiently high to be a statistically noticeable cause of mortality.

Fishing Guides - Making money on tax dollars?

I personally have no problem with guides being paid to provide a service, whether that service be guiding for a state stocked species, or merely a state managed species. And honestly I don't see what the fuss is all about. Imagine the impossibility of enforcing something like a separate fee/license for guiding for stocked species, if you are guiding for bass and accidentally catch a walleye, a wiper, or say a muskie (stocked by MDC), would you be in violation or just lucky. What about species like the Walleye, some are stocked and some reproduce naturally. I fully support making things as less complicated as possible not more, and I have never guided a day in my life nor do I intend to, don't want to make a job out of something fun. -
I spent 48 years working and fishing outside and a burn would turn to a tan in a few days, shorts, sandals and sleeveless shirts all summer. Just recently returned home from a stay in KC to have a stem cell transplant, (treatment for multiple myeoloma) one of the side effects of the killing chemo is a major succeptability to sun and skin cancer So it long sleeves, big hats, long pants and sunscreen from now on, unless I want to miss my grandson growing up and I aint gonna miss that if I can help it. I have several pair of the lightweight Magellan brand shirts, very comfy and big pockets. I won't be released TP go fishing again until October so won't know for sure how well it works for a while.

I believe they rebuilt some one or more of the bridges on the cut through road. Still I would go easy.

My wife would use it to spy on me! Besides I don't do anything interesting enough to video. I will keep.my money.

Or read that portion of the Wildlife Code. Someone posted part of it early on. It isn't difficult to understand, might not agree but it's pretty clear that regardless if it's 1,2 or 10 days worth of fishing you can only have one limit in your immediate possession while on the banks or water of a lake that has limits. If you call the MDC office you seldom talk to an agent, unless you talk to the guys and gals that actually write the tickets be wary of the answers. Mine included. But even on my phone it took me maybe 2 minutes to find the regulation on MDC wrbsite I will see if I can do it again and link it, but may be beyond my abilities. Daily and Possession Limits You may possess no more than the daily limit of any given species while you are on waters, or on the banks of waters, where daily limits for those species apply. Aha, I was correct, it is beyond d my abilities on my phone. However it is listed under daily limits I believe.

Whomever your buddy talked to in Springfield is wrong, it will take more than just separation, leaving them at a campsite, leaving them in a cooler on ice in your truck, preferably with a label. I guarantee that if you get checked and have over a limit in your immediate possession you are gonna get a ticket.
-
It is pretty plainly written, you can only have one limit in your possession while on the water. Not confusing in the slightest. What would you expect a Conservation Agent to do if he checks you early in the morning and you have a limit of crappie plus 14 more?
-
They complained that there should be some place on line to check, then when told there was they didn't want to do it. OK fellers good choice make the drive instead.
-
We still regularly see them around Pomme de Terre lake. They generally don't sneak up on ya. Used to see a B2 occasionally but haven't seen one in a long time.

I was distressed when I finally looked it up to what the heck a Ned rig was. Turns out we had been using VERY similar things and didn't have any na me for it. I have caught small bass on some pretty big lures.
-
Keep in mind there are several different agencies that "patrol', from the county sheriff's dept, MDC, COE, MSHP, many are looking at/for different things.

I don't know my fishing buddy would cast between the floats (Hard), jig would wham against aluminum pontoon and about 3 seconds later pull out a crappie. Have had a few growly dock folks, but I don't fish LOZ during the crazy summer so maybe owners are a little more laid back then.
-
Honestly I have had more positive contacts with dock owners than negative. Have had one guy nearly mug us so he could show picyures of a spoonbill he snagged, more than one tell us to "try that corner again" and end up with crappie. admittedly I am a little extra careful around docks and boats because i know how I would feel if someone was banging jigs off my gel coated boat.

Hmm stuck in a basement room in KC for 30 days except for daily trips to a clinic. Driving past some of the morel lookingest places and I know nobody ever looks for them, and neither can I.

Dang it Sir that is the making of a delicious supper.

Always hate to lose any one at the lake. Something as simple as going after a loose boat can cost your life.

Sometimes its really really nice to know more than just the lake level. Note this is essentially real time data.

I heard about the Ned rig so much I finally had to look it up to see what it was. Turns out I had used it for years just didn't know it had a name. I love using what I had called a "do nothing jig" in creeks and river because besides smallmouth smacking it the gogglers and greenies hate it too and them fellers is delicious. It will remain one of my top 5 or so lures just for sheer versatility sake.

Any day fishing with an old friend is a good one. A day where you catch fish is a great one.
