My wife is very good at deer shooting, (shooting only), and can catch fish given the chance. Her taking up deer hunting has cost me a bit, but not bad as I would have found some other excuse to buy stuff. She is useless at cleaning fish and shows no desire to get better either, but she doesn't complain when I am busily stocking up fillets either. I have made dozens of those bead slider things, they work well.

That one is very similar to what I used. Ness sent me one too but I already had the dough working. Here is the final.product, with some frosting. Very soft and pretty darn good. If I can do as well tomorrow and have warm cinnamon rolls with home made chili, well it will be a good day. However won't be surprised if I have to stop in the middle of things to go fetch a deer. Again not really a problem.

Well I am.making a trial run today. If not as good I will deliver to my son to ight, he will eat them anyway. Dough is rising as we speak. Roles up and ready for a warm nap in the oven.

For what it's worth MDC doesn't post those reports either, never understood why, they will happily email a copy but don't post it publicly. I used to post them.on our website until the rules changed and it had to be a link instead of a document, now I can't post it there.

I can tell the truth. If I have to. I guess. Never have worried about overall nubers beyond a limit of crappie or walleye. Enjoyment is what I count.

Since my wife will be in her kill house this weekend, I am taking care of my mom. So I am considering making summer sausage, chili and cinnamon roll. Cinnamon rolls was alway what mom made on opening day of deer season, more than one cold morning was cut short because I knew she would have them coming out of the oven. However she never had a recipe and certainly can't remember how she made thwm now, so anyone have a good foolproof method. I have found several and realistically all are about the same, I will add raisins or maybe craisins because I like them.

There is no shortage of squirrels around me, I just down own those properties, although I have never yet been denied permission to squirrel hunt. Mostly reds with a few pockets of quick little greys. My biggest problem is that basically from the time the leaves begin to fall it seems there is some verify of a firearms deer season happening. I don't hunt when it warm anymore, sweat too easily, too many chiggers, ticks and dang spider webs. You know, I want to do exactly what I want to, when I want to, and how I want to. The American Way!

Many methods work, I have tried others but still go back to the way I was taught as a kid, which is very similar to JD. I have also tossed them in a 5 gallon bucket of water and skinned them wet. Keeps the hair off but wasn't worth 5he hassle of skinning a dripping squirrel. I also have a tough time cooking them in any but 2 ways. Browned in a skillet and then steamed/simmered until tender. Gravy from the drippings. Or for older squirrels I fall back to long cook/boil in seasoned water, pick the meat and add back to some noodles and whatever else you like for a tree rat chicken/noodles. If I ever won the lottery I would buy my own hunting property, specifically for squirrels.

Nah, bass are better than trout.

White chili is a good change up from regular chili, I rather enjoy it.

Just a note, Hawker Point, and much of Orleans Trail will be closed this due to the Special hunt at Stockton.

Awesome way to send the day. -
I cant imagine that unless you are about to "go nuclear" and disappear in a mushroom cloud thst you couldn't find a campsite in just about any open campground that is far enough from people to be safe.

Sounds like you finished strong. Hope the surgery goes well, and you are back out soon.

I feel ya, my yard mutt no longer cares about the deer. So far all they do is eat up the apples which I am OK with. Their times is coming, wife has plenty of ammo and extra tags if she want them since we are in a CWD zone.

My only interesting addition for supper was a big Green tomato I grabbed from the garden. Flour, spices, and some bacon grease. Tasty, put one on top of my burger, was good but not as good as I hoped, but the extra slices were fabulous, crispy, spicy and that green mater whang.

After stuffing myself with boring old fried crappie and taters routine last night, tonight I am including more healthy fare. My sister brought me a couple of cushaw squash, so peeled and chunked it up, tossed it in at with a couple sprigs of rosemary and boiled for about 20 minutes. Pouted off the water and removed the squash chunks, mashed them added butter salt pepper and garlic. Not bad. Next I hit the turnip patch for a bag of greens and turnips. Final piece will be some marinated grilled or steak on the grill.will see if I remember photos or.not! Surprise I actually made a photo plate (moms) so you could see. My plate is piled much higher and messier.

Where I have been fishing the last couole weeks crappie and whites are both pretty well populated. I have no problem taking g home a limit of each. The whites are firmer fleshed and very tasty. I am careful when cleaning them to trim them well.

Yep. You even took me out on morning. Whites are making a comeback on Pomme, but nothing like those years yet. Though some days they are an annoying presence when crappie fishing, but have made more than one busted crappie trip into a heck of fun day. You tried to explain/teach float n fly to me but I never could get it.

My compost get everything but fish remains and meat scraps. Used to load it up with grass clippings but it all "melts" down quickly. Been using the same wire cage bin for years.

That crusty sourdough is crying for a nice white chili to dip it in. Gavin that stew looks tasty, it would be great to dip sourdough in as welll. I have no clue what I am having for supper, am at friends house and currently their black lab is bedded own in my lap so can't even go peek.

I remember the advice given several years ago on Pomme. Wind from the same direction 3 days in a row and you will have all the white bass you want to.play with. Everybody has different techniques and methids, up the river it's different current can be a key, there is a bank about 100 yards long on LOZ that if the wind hits it for a couple days he whites and hybrids are so close to the bank you can literally crawl a white jig off the rocks and into the water about 2 feet max before one will smack it, occasionally that white will run right past the boat and head for open water, screaming drag the whole way, and quickly becomes obvious it a nice hybrid. Man I wish I was there now catching them.
