  1. 42 trout over the limit, maybe they just lost count on the way to 5 each?
  2. I am unaware of that one. Thought the limit was15 fish, of which only 4 can be over 18 inches long. Don't know of a minimum length limit.

    Looks tasty Chief.
  4. It's been a while but it was always fun. At its best sitting on a deck and plinking them out of nearby trees.

    What's Cooking?

Living just outside of town about where houses stop I used to get a lot of dumped cats and dogs. Cats were never a problem it was a competition between me and my old german shepard who got them first. Dogs I have more of a soft spot for, have re-homed a few, kept one occasionally, but others that were aggressive or livestock chasers/killers well they just went away.
  6. Picture looks like somebody shot a pile of big buffalo and one redneck. Don't what the limit on us rednecks is.
  7. I have actually assisted MDC with a youth gigging clinic, there were no bass gigged at that event. One of the main lectures given aside from safety was identification of the fish.
  8. Probably not in missouri, the State anymore won't act to make changes in regulation unless there is some scientific data behind it. Good bad or indifferent. I actually think I understand what you are trying to say but you keep going back to comparisons that are not scientifically validated Carp are not evil, carp fishing is fun, carp fishing is a growing sport, loss of too many of any stable population is a bad thing. Effect of carp and yoy carp on populations of predatory fish is something worthy of study. So how close am I ?
  9. I don't think anyone is saying carp are not fun to catch and are even worth as an intended quarry. What Spoondog and others have tried to explain that the observations, stories, vidoes, postulations, philosophies, observances and whatever else it is are all fine and good, however it is simply not a scientific study. One with parameters, protocols that are followed etc. in order to make the data useable. Sort of why the samples nets or electro shocking is always done in the same locations, so there is a basis for comparison to previous data. Lakes that are more nutritious are going to grow big fish faster than less nutrient rich fish, that means both Carp and LMB if all the other needs are met. Questions like what eats baby carp are valid questuins, likely every predator in the water will happily eat them if available. Might make good fodder for a doctoral study for a college student. Simply put the reasons for the studies not having been done before is that nobody cared, doesn't make it right just a fact. Using you carp to feed fish in a hatchery is a good idea, again good fodder for a graduate study.
  10. Hopefully if they don't show they will get stopped for a minor violation and then held for extradition, would live to see thwm.spend a few nights in jail before the trial.
  11. They used to say that little quakes along a fault liNE were a good thing. It prevented a large energy build up that would hen release in a BIG event. I don't want any big events.

I am going to change the locks on my house, you have obviously broken in and taken one of my grandma's quilts for the background. I could happily dump all that together and eat myself into a coma.

Mmmm, me like some good beans and cornbread. RPS, I am not sure how I feel about the risotto, looks good but my system may not be sophisticated enough to appreciate it.
  14. Al every time I said that the horse lovers around me came unglued. Still true though.
  15. Absolutely my favorite line today!
  16. Heck i got a beautiful 2 inches of rain last night.
  17. Chief, it's so he can turn a little shorter without the tongue getting into the bumper. Most of those old bumper mounted balls had marks on the bumper from jack knifing the trailer.
  18. There are many things that affect habitat, from removal of the riparian vegetation and farming right up to the channel edge, to heavy reliance on fertilizers and pesticides. I know a couple places on a local creeks I used to fish as a kid, that dad would point to and say we used to dive off that big Rock, this was the swimming hole. At that time it was only about 3 feet deep, but it used to be over your head, that is happening in many places. Frogs and crayfish are often referred to as indicator species, they are very succeptible to things like pesticides and chemistry changes in the water. Frogs used to be everywherewhen I was a kid, now it's difficult to find enough to be worth the trouble.
  19. Im not gonna lie, I would have done the same thing with that hitch.

I have done well at such things with zuppa toscona, just like the Olive Garden serves (only better)., fish chowder sounds good right now as well.
  21. I have been on both ends of that situation, one is a lot of fun, the other SUCKS! With any luck I will be again.

Sounds like a good chicken noodle soup crowd. Smoke a chicken or turkey, pick the meat off the bones and boil the bones down in some bullion for the goodness in them and stock for the soup. Then wild rice or good egg noodles and as much of he meat as you like in the soup. Option I have used is potatoes and carrots so that it is like a pot pie soup.
  23. Looking at the USGS gauge at new madrid, the river is coming up. From the graph I would guess that water is being released from somewhere to support navigation on the Mississippi. Prior to that looks like it was approaching the lower limit of navigation.
  24. Wet years are not all the same. Part of he totals for the year came in large amounts then a long dry spell. Around here for about 3 weeks mowing wasn't a problem, all grass brown and dry. A couple nice rains that brought the grass back but there was zero runoff to bring the creeks or reservoirs up.
  25. Some days that is how it goes, hang in there and you will be back at it soon enough.
