  1. Which of the numbers/locations have you tried to contact so far.
  2. Not sure what the connection between walleye and geese are? I am not a waterfowler but don't think there is a season on cormorants and you are never going to see a bounty on them. There is a trade off of stocking size, smaller size is much cheaper to raise to that level and can be stocked in large quantities, but survival is much lower. Larger size such as fingerings are costlier to raise to that size but have a better survival rate. Where feasible MDC has moved more to stocking larger sizes for the better survival rate. I don't know of any studies bu would guess that far more fingerling walleye get eaten by other fish (bass, white bass etc.) that are ever eaten by cormorants, although they are very good at eating fish. Generally a critter like that eats more of the more populous species like bluegill and shad or even crappie than a small group like walleye, simply because there are more to choose from.
  3. Retrieve it, fish it again in 30 minutes.
  4. I am using a leader on my braid simply because one of the drawbacks to braid is it doesn't do well at abrasion resistance, at least not nearly as well as Mono. I am using some P-Line CXX for leader, partly because it is pretty tough and partly because I have the bright green and in poor light it is easier for me to retie a jig with.
  5. When I get my knot done right the only breaks I get is is the mono leader right at the jig after a few tough walleye/white bass battles, and I forget to retie occasionally. If I do re-tie it no problems. If I don't do the Albright right then I will loose the whole leader at the join on a hook set, but seems like lately I am getting better at them.
  6. Me too Wrench, I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla that has been my daughters, then my sons car, and is now mine again. Won't die, but has a strange vibration at about 55 MPH, if going uphill, if you are going downhill it is smooth as butter. Keep thinking that something will explode, break or fly off the little oil burning beast. But at close to 40 MPG its hard to want it to die too.

    What's Cooking?

I absolutely LOVE scallops, well and almost any seafood. The lime butter sounds interesting too.
  8. I fully understand, me and my Nanofil have had quite the drama with knots. I have been using an albright I believe, 10 wraps and pull it tight, make sure it gets tight, and don't get too crazy on trimming the tag end short.

    What's Cooking?

I am.in the opposite boat chief, the firest time I ate cashew chicken I thought it was terrible and it has never appealed to me since then. While I realie that Cashew Chicken is about as Chinese as fresh fries there are just too many other options that i do like available at any Chinese type food place for me to try it again.
  10. Cormorants are fish eating machines, I remember seeing a show from Indonesia or somewhere where they had trained cormorants, with a collar around their neck so they couldn't swallow. The birds would dive and catch fish and bring them to the buy in the boat, would in the end feed the bird.
  11. I don't normally see the cormorants in the large flocks, I see them roosting in trees a lot on Truman, we used to call them Water Turkeys. they look very different from ducks with a much longer neck. The smaller black, duck looking species you see in the large flocks on the water are The American Coot, or as we used to call them Mud Hens. They primarily eat invertebrates and plants, however they will happily snatch a small fish etc. I have seen them pick up small stunned shad before.
  12. Get a mask, submerge yourself in a pool or creek and have someone stand nearby with a bright shirt on, you won't be able to see much if anything. What you wear fishing has more to do with comfort and liking what you are wearing that anything else. Now having said that most of my regular fishing shirts are a drab color, why, simple my bright ones I wear to work and I have a tendency to get "Stuff" all over me when fishing.
  13. O man I love a good mess of frogs, been several years since I have seen enough around to be worth going after.

    What's Cooking?

I was prepared to say that fritat a doesn't do much for me, then I saw the photo, looks really good. And well who doesn't like a good biscuit, with honey butter, preserves or something sweet on it.
  15. I have several of them from Academy, mostly long sleeve since I am supposed to avoid sun. I buy the ones that are a lightweight material and dry quickly, vent flap on the back, I want to say they are Magellan brand but not sure. Some vivid bright colors and some drab quiet ones.
  16. Hmm my wife keeps telling me I should go fishing! I am starting to get a little suspicious.
  17. Light line is even worse. I do notice that the line will often wrap around the tip but it is so easy to notice that it doesn't cause any problems.
  18. I am with ya Ness, there isn't much on a pig I won't eat, and I MIGHT eat a pig snoot/face if there was a cold beer included. But I darn sure wouldn't walk across a parking lot even to do it.
  19. Too windy to go fishing tonight so thought I would wander through my early morel spot. Ended up wih 30 morels and one very happy wife.
  20. Ham, that just means more for us.
  21. The green stuff is doing very well for sure, I don't think it is actually rock snot but a filamentous algae I believe, some years it's bad. I usually refer to it as the green slime. Which makes no difference when you get it on your lure, it's still irritating. I haven't heard any bass reports from Pomme lately, the lake was rising and should be crested out or maybe begin to fall about now.
  22. Came back up 6 inches or so after the last rain. If the prediction holds may get some more.

    What's Cooking?

I love a good stir fry, I don't do it well but like my version too. I have never developed a liking for cashew chicken though. Tonight I had last night 2 walleye fillets coated with the required butter, lemon, and garlic and a dose of season salt and old bay and some crushed baby dill that is coming up everywhere I my cold frame among my spinach. Wrapped up the small batch of fresh aparagus in a foil pouch and put it on the grill first. Thought it would be a neat plan to eat walleye then go walleye fishing. Apparently they didn't appreciate my plan, only a few white bass to show for the effort. Supper was still tasty.
  24. Be flexible, if the storms predicted for the next couple days dump a lot of rain in the basin the rivers may be high and muddy. Weekend is supposed to be dry though. Don't be ashamed to pound some white bass if you find them. I fished tonight and the walleye didn't cooperate but a few big white bass that peeled off some line halped ease the pain.
  25. That's a whopper of a big ole black crappie regardless of what it was caught on.
