  1. Ranger520vx is mistaken, I keep explaining that there are no walleye in Pomme the musky ate them all.
  2. Have heard some scattered reports, some whites up the river and some on main lake as well, haven't heard anything on Walleye, but then those guys will usually take that information to their grave on Pomme.
  3. Agree with what Dutch said, when its good, it is fabulous. Will be very weather dependent and water level dependent. Stable or slow rise and its on, cold front or high dirty water and don't hold your breath. Find you a nice cove with some gravel, to chunky rock, and if there are some brushpiles, stumps or button bush out in the water even better. And definitely download the fish attractor coordinates (or print a map) from the MDC Website.
  4. My favorite "trick" is the time and a half to go to the front of the line. Summer time, campers etc. only have a limited amount of time to be at the lake and when their motor doesn't run they get offered to move them to the front of the line for time and a half hourly. Most happily pay up. I towed one of their boats to the shop for them, and mine the same day, with specific instructions that mine did NOT get no time and a half. Brought his back a couple days later, and mine the next day, never told him. The chief mechanic just grinned and said, "you are good for business", and I had sent several to him as he is a dang good mechanic.
  5. You know it had to be fake with the words smallmouth and best eating I've had in a while. I've eaten a few on float trips, but unless he has been surviving on Vienna sausages I don't think "the best" is gonna be believable.
  6. I will be visiting Harbor Freight soon for some of their glue. Last fall while fishing at LOZ, we were going down the lake, not at high speed but enough to keep on plane, and one of my buddies was gonna use some super glue to help hold the jig bodies on as the hybrids and whites were tearing them up. Laid it on the deck and the wind caught it, whoosh gone, and sank! so some extras would be good, of course since that wasn't my boat the extras would likely be in my boat, but a couple in the bag would certainly help.
  7. I have heard some reports of whites on the main lake and up the river as well, I have not personally been able to same those reports. Finally Pomme is getting the White Bass back, the reports are not of big whites, well occasionally a big one, but the numbers of decent to medium sized whites reported are pretty good. Its been a while since Pomme could have much of a white bass report, except for little fellers the last couple years.
  8. No not me. I was working today so didn't get out to see or do anything but push some papers and numbers.
  9. It's a decent ramp, it has a fairly long road down to it. The turn around area is likely too small to turn your 22' boat around so you would have to back down it. I would reccomendations putting in at Nemo, pretty short run from there up to Pittsburg area, and you will pass some good fishing locations on the way.
  10. there is another access up on the Lindley, its sort of a gravel/mud access, but you are a ways up the lindley, I am not sure about crappie but often times white bass are thick up there. We call it Sleepy Hollow access, it would be in Polk County and CR 333 from looking at Google map. Also on the Pomme river side, PP hwy access has seen a lot of kayaks put in there and go up and or down, fishing for crappie and whites, but the wind can really whistle down that channel at times.
  11. Avery or the Fristoe side would be good, but Oneshot is spot on, if you don't know where you are going it can be tough to find. You can also launch at Fairfield and go back into the Little Pomme arm, but wind can definitely get to you there.
  12. When the spawn is on I would be more inclined to fish the last 3 to 4 hours of the day around lightfoot. Even if dark catches you, you will still be in a no wake area. And if there just happens to be a red f150 in the lot, and a red alumacraft prowling around say hi.

    What's Cooking?

walleye fishing after work till past dark. One of those make what you can out of the fridge so I made a sammich out of some honey roasted turkey, branschweiger, and a couple of fried eggs, havarti cheese, butter and white bread. Surprisingly good. Oh and no walleye for me tonight, or I would be posting that somewhere instead of a dang sammich.
  14. Bolivar is an excellent launch point for a boat, but seems to me that it would not be as good for a kayaker, but I am not one. I think you could be at Lightfoot just a quickly as you could Bolivar. I have caught more than one limit of crappie and never gotten outside the no wake cove.
  15. Ditto what he said. I am most certainly not an IT anything but it's more user friendly for me than any other forum I have been on, which honestly ain't that many.
  16. Well it will depend somewhat on what direction the wind is from. Since you are talking crappie I would say Lightfoot Park, launch and never go out into the main lake, turn left and go back into the cove, plenty of fish attractors along the banks there. Another option is the end of the county line road (358 I think) on the Pomme arm, you can go either left of right and fish those coves, big coves plenty of room. Other dock zones have roads and many have gravel ramps. If you give me some idea of where on the lake you want to fish I will be able to give some more specifics. I may not be a very good fisherman anymore but I can get you there.
  17. Oneshot, if I had a place like that I wouldn't be worth killing. But I sure would have a lot of fun with fishing, hunting and mushrooming.
  18. I like to gig on occasion, it is a lot of fun when the are fish present. More often than not we end up eating some and somebody takes the rest home. Most folks I know that gig would be quite happy if they had someone who would take the fish, especially uncleaned. Used to see a lot of bowfishermen when I worked on upper bull shoals and TR. They had a local hog farmer whom they would deliver barrels full of carp, gar, buffalo and drum to. The hogs loved it. Having gigged a little I can say it would be very easy to see a huge shad and know "hey that's a shad" but upon getting it in the boat to be second guessing it simply because of the size. Sometimes folks say things and are quoted correctly but it still doesn't always convey their meaning well. And as I have said befor there are folks who will gig a bass or catfish, just as there are those who will keep over limits of crappie, shoot a deer or turkey whenever they see one etc. Thy are poachers, lawbreakers, whatever you wish to call them.

    What's Cooking?

Well it's beginning to pass, I am able to smell and taste somewhat. Made something a little different last week with the leftover smoked pork. We had been eating on the leftovers for a couple days and was tired of it even if I couldn't taste it. I also love dirty rice, especially the dirty rice in a can from wal mart, just add hamburger or sausage. So I took the leftover smoked pork pieces and pits and rough chopped them up, warmed it in a skillet and dumped the can of dirty rice into it. I didn't take any pics because it kind of looks like a dogs breakfast. I had some for an early lunch befor Dr. Appt. Today and could actally taste it. It will never make any cookbook but would certainly be welcome as a skillet supper on any gravel bar I have occupied. Also had some wonderful looking mexican food at a place called Kamachos or similar in I believe Olathe, some spicy wings at BWW, and some deliciously cold Dos equis this week, none of which I could taste but sure seemed good. Didn't begin to get taste back until on way home at an Arby's, oh well better late than never.
  20. I have been wanting a little Taurus M85 all steel (not a lightweight) revolver in .38 spl., stainless. Something that conceals easily, takes up little space in my console, can slip it into a IWB holster and it disappears. Like the revolvers better than a small autos. It would be one of those things that are always around, shot fairly often in practice and likely (hopefully) never under duress.
  21. Heck of a day.
  22. Depends on how far up the Lindly arm you want to be. Hermitage side of the State Park is close to the dam, Nemo Park is about midway up, and Pittsburg Park (RA) is at the point where you better know where you are running above that. I have heard a few rumors about white bass but have not even come close to having a chance to go find out myself.

    What's Cooking?

Sadly I am all to familiar with what the different pills and drugs are and do. Besides the Dr. my wife, my mom and my sister are nurses, plus the insurance company really wanted to assign me a nurse to call with questions. The Oncologist Dr. in Spfld has his regular nurse we call if we need something done, and the KU system in Kansas City has a nurse that says she "owns" me and the Dr. just signs stuff. Plus my regular GP Dr. (the good who diagnosed me to start with) has a NP what like to give me unsolicited advice, (of course she if right about the blood pressure etc.) . All that is good I have a thing for cute nurses, but then who doesn't. The Zyrtec is a preventative anti-allergy that works well for me.

    What's Cooking?

Zyrtec is what I normally take for a few weeks during allergy season. Unfortunately is has the side effect of killing taste buds for a couple weeks also, so either way taste and smell go away for a while. I also have to take Claritin for a couple days before and after my dr. Appts. and treatments, somehow it keeps the side effects at bay, no one has been able to explain to me exactly how but it works. Bedtime gets the whole enchilada of a good sized shot of vodka, nyquil, maybe a little cough syrup and if I have taste at the time a squirt of lime juice. Usually gives me a couple hours sleep even if in the recliner. But it will all pass and I will again be "normal".

    What's Cooking?

I see the dr. Monthly, so I have an aversion to going any more often than I have to, if I would be smart bough to take the allergy pills when it first starts it would help probably. It will pass.
