That sounds like a Derek Farwell reply for sure. I can't count the number of stories like that I have heard. Face book and soctal medit buses a lot of the "stories". Pictures of alligator gar supposedly shot on Pomme (not), photos of a huge buck swimming across Pomme, hmm when did we get spruce trees? And I often see the pictures elsewhere before someone claims it was Pomme, stockton, Truman etc.. But I like a good story.

Yeas a few do escape through the dam at Pomme, occasionally one will be caught by a walleye fisherman below the dam. When we do our periodic inspection where we dewater the stilling basin it seems like there is always one or two in there. I can't imagine a tiger musky being that big or surviving this long in Stockton, I would think it was a transplant by a musky fisherman, but heck stranger things have happened. Personally I have zero love for muskie, they have a love affair with my shad raps on Pomme thiugh, i am sure that the dern thinges get together and laugh about it later. I can remember as a kid on Stockton catching crappie on minners and you would see a little group of gulls working your way diving down and eating something. After a couple experiences my dad would warn me to hang on, about half the time your minner and hook would take off for parts unknown, sometimes you would get back a mangled gold hook sometimes not, but it sure killed the crappie fishing for a while. I believe MDCs plan is for every lake to have a "trophy" species, whether it be walleye, wipers or walleye. I would trade every muskie in Pomme for a stocking of wipers and more walleye, but then I am biased, I like things I can eat.

Just convince us hillbillies that they taste like fried chicken and they killed Dale Earnhart, and figure out a way we can shoot them ,won't be one left within 100 miles. With a screen name like yours and a 0 under the ranking I hade to give you a like.

I would say on the big rivers they catch a LOT of carp while snagging. Thankfully they haven't made it past the dams into the lakes yet. Heck being a hillbilly if I caught one of the Asian carp I would give it a try, fillet, remove bones, a good dose of Cajun seasoning and either grilled or deep fry it. What can't be eaten with enough Cajun Seasoning?
-
Only if those Asian carp were cleverly disguised as spoonbill. the places I have been I have never seen an Asian carp. Thinking about Brown Bend on LOZ and The City Harbor at Warsaw. 3 or so years ago at Browns Bend there was a gentlemen in the parking lot trying his best to give away a spoonbill he had caught. I commend him for trying to find someone to take it but taking home a spoonbill that you didn't get to catch is sort of like non-alcoholic beer, what's the point. I will admit that I have eaten spoonbill I thought was good, once. I was given a couple well trimmed slabs and put them in the smoker and coated them with lemon pepper. Fresh off the smoker it was OK, but once it cooled and you put some good BBQ sauce on it, heck it was good.
-
And for days afterward the shoreline will reek of decaying spoonbill heads and guts.

They used to stock a hybrid called a Tiger Musky, but that was many years ago. Wish I could see a pic of it.

Headed down to Taylor Monday for an all day

The rain in Spfld all went south of the divide, toward the white river system. -
Ahhh spawning on the gravel bar.

Worse, they make you eat the dang thing.

Well all the sign point to spring. Some tender and delicious asparagus poking their noses up, smell of fresh mowed grass as I check to see if the dang thing would start and run. The weather is warm and beautiful for a day or so at a time anyway. I am frantically trying to find time to finish some boat maintenance (wheel bearing replacement) to get out before the weather changes. Can occasionally slip away from home to catch a walleye (or more likely a short one). Scheduled to go to KC for a couple days right square in middle of nice weather days, and talking cold weather by weekend? Apple trees budding up, rebuds starting to show color, neighbors knocking on my door wanting gardens worked up. It not must be spring, it must be spring in Missouri. Much better year for me already than last year.

I like pickled eggs and all, but pickled in sauerkraut juice? That might more manly than I can handle. But heck I would try it.

Gentlemen, Check your trailer tires
MOPanfisher replied to Ham's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I like Wrench's plan better. Both trailer bearings though smooth, when I pulled the caps off the grease was a greyish brown gravy, so I am gonna replace them all including obviously the seals, and pump it full of marine wheel bearing grease again. I have never lots a bearing on the road and don't plan to start any time soon. Especially since this spring the trailer will make a trip to north Missouri and I really don't want problems then. Already got the new tires on, and bought a used wheel, put the best of the two old tires on for a spare and now just need to get a mounting bracket to put it on the trailer. There better be more fishing this year to make up for all the work. While not a mechanic changing bearings, races and seals is not too bad, but every tool withing 15 feet of my boat is a greasy slimy mess. Will take me a couple hours when I am done just to clean up the tools. -
Still working on mine. Decided to get new tires and check trailer bearings and it went downhill from there. Will soon be ready to get it wet for the first time in way too long.

I talked with the biologist via email a while back about that tooic. The best we could come up with was a combination of things. The big flood carried a LOT of sediment in with it, heavy releases for extended period pulled the water all the way to the dam, creeks and river arms get flushed with new water while the main body of the lake is sort of stagnant, the water is still cold and dense and the sediment apears to have had a lot of fine clay or something in it, which takes a whIle to settle out as it is finer particles. It is slowly getting better.

It's been a while but we used to take a couple of big egg sack from 5he and put them in a pot of water with a goodly helping of crab boil and cook them till done all the way through which takes a while. Them break them up and remove all the membranes, mix in a little salt, olive oil and whatever flavor profile you like. Typically I went cajun, put some of the redneck caviar on a cracker. It takes some getting used to, but we'll it's different, lots of people who tried it did not like it.

I have eaten more sauerkraut out of a can or jar than any other way.
-
Mmmmmm I love asparagus. Been having major cravings for fresh vegetables.
-
I love the "tiger stripe" smallies, always fun.

I have seen some $2 holes in my life, but be danged if I was willing launch in one. There somebody had to do it.

I want the opposite of snob tonight, almost pure old school. Plugged in the electric fry daddy and fried up a pan full of fresh walleye. While I was doing that my wife made a big cast iron skillet of fried taters and onions (the taters and gravy are actually why I married her), and a small cast iron skillet of corn bread, skillet greased with butter so it had that edge that is better than the middle.

Asian Carp Found in Black River Below Clearwater Dam
MOPanfisher replied to Brian Jones's topic in Conservation Issues
The reason they are attempting to keep them out of the great Lakes is money and the fact that a single.location for a very expensive electric fence will hold them. Forever, not likely but every year without them in the great Lakes is good. They were spread all up and down the Mississippi so no single location will prevent their spread up the various tributaries that are open to the big river. The big worry below the dams is that someone cast netting shad will get one or 2 and end up transporting them up to the lake, from where they will again spread.
