  2. Have you tried them in Mo?
  3. So what did you get the walleye on?
  4. There is so much on the web these days, but if you still like books... I would recommend this one. It is laid out well, great descriptions and good photography. If you are seasoned, but like to try new things or challenge yourself or if you have a new tier in your world, I recommend it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0134N9BTK/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i1
  5. I have a fly tying book by Morgan Lyle called Simple Flies. First, I really am enjoying the book by reading, tying, and trying out these easy to tie flies. If you saw my post in the fly tying forum on the Naked Pheasant Tail, it is indirectly related to this book. To get back on subject, the Greenie Weenie is in the book, and I'm curious if anyone has used it with success in the Ozarks. If yes, what size and where (in a general sense). Here is a good pic: https://rangeleyflyshop.com/blogs/fly-of-the-month-maine-fly-shop/green-weenie The book description calls out: "Lefty Kreh is on record saying the Weenie doesn't have to be green. He and his friends have caught fish on Red, Pink, and Purple Weenies, too." Anyone one tried them out in different colors? Thanks In Advance, Mike
  6. Try two
  7. Wow... that didn't scale up well from my phone.
  8. I heard a podcast talk about how well a Naked Pheasant Tail worked as I dropper. I think it may be a local fly somewhere because I couldn’t find an image or video on it. So I just used my imagination and came up with very a simple fly. I think it will work. Hook: 2x strong, 1x short size 16 Bead: Tungsten 3/32 nickel Thread: black 6/0 Body: Pheasant tail over superglue Knock down the barn and add the bead. Build a tapered body with thread. Add five or six feather for the tail and pause. Bring thread back to the bead and whip finish. Add thin layer of superglue and wrap feathers up to bead and hold or hang until glue dries. Trim off excess. Not sure how durable it will be, but it is so easy to tie. I don’t think it will be a bother. Also a great first fly.
  9. All I have to say is remember the guy that shot the husband and dad in front of his family over using the river shore on land that I think wasn't even his. Law enforcement showing up doesn't help you if you are dead.
  10. You probably know this, but great for bobber fishing with kids and family when anchored. Agree with trolling, but I love trolling for fish... easier to drink your beer and eat a dog, LOL. If I may share a memory this just brought up. At the last great family wide vacation before grandparents died, we all trolled for trout out of one in Rocky Mountain National park and caught a bunch of fish. If you go for it, hope it brings you memories also.

    HBD Phil!

    Happy Birthday Phill...
  12. ...and they all have roots to the underground, and it is so easy to get dirt on you. LOL
  13. The winter gate is curse and a blessing. It normally means if you walk down the hill, you have the fishing to yourself... the blessing. Then you have the walk back up the hill... the curse. I tried it out early on when I was figuring things out. I want to go back this year and see how I do.
  14. LOL... Oh my... there are three of them.
  15. Great idea. I'm a retiree from the Air Force so that is a great fit.
  16. I'm 2-4 hours away from the nearest trout water. I also tie for fun and to decompress from stressful work. A make a lot more flies then I lose. Any ideas on what to do with the extra flies. I don't think mine are good enough to go into a store. They are good enough to catch fish though.
  17. True dat... but I have to many reels and rods. I bought mine to try out on bluegills. It is fun. Some how when you get a good fight there is harmonics on the string and it starts "singing". That is not the best word for it, but it makes a noise. Anyway, just started using it for trout. Here is another tip for beginning tiers. Practice your flies on a size 10 hook. Any fly that will catch a trout on size 14/16 a bluegill will love on a size ten.
  18. Which Bethel? Bethel University in Chicago or Bethel College in Kansas? My girl goes to BC.
  19. This falls under the... do you know, but probably useless question. With colleges having bass teams now. Does cashing those checks affect future eligibility with a college team? I assume no, but way back in the eighties, kids didn't take golf tournament checks so as not to risk it. With that craziness out of the way. LET'S GO. Nice job dad getting the next generation in the boat.
  20. Griz... Excuse my ignorance, but do you drift the woolies on under an indicator or tight line slowly to you while it drifts?
  21. Not a wet, a Japanese tenkara fly. https://www.tenkaratalk.com/2022/03/my-top-5-kebari-for-tenkara/
  22. I was savaging old flies to reuse the hooks for crackleback flies. I realized I had a wet fly hook. Got a wild hair and made a tenkara crackleback. I hope that doesn’t get me kicked off the forum. However, I bet it will catch a fish on the swing. I’ll let ya know.

    Eager (Beaver)

https://www.amazon.com/Eager-Surprising-Secret-Beavers-Matter/dp/1603589082/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1CJA1VX0WZ6B1&keywords=eager+beavers+and+why+they+matter&qid=1663091831&s=books&sprefix=Eager%2Cstripbooks%2C231&sr=1-1 I heard about this book on the Orvis podcast. I found it a really good read. There were sections where the chapter maybe went a little to long. I would recommend this book to anyone that is conservation minded. If you like non-fiction wildlife or outdoor reading, I really recommend it. Eager by Ben Goldfarb
  24. When was like 10 years old, I snuck a watch of the Big Foot movie, and can still remember the bathroom seen. I spent my early teens curled up in the corner of my bed where Big Foot couldn't see me through the window. I spent my teens pretending it didn't scare me anymore. I'm over fifty, and big foot tales still give me the weegeebeges. Now my wife and daughter like to point out every BF sign or Tshirt. LOL Some don't like creepy clowns, creepy dolls, for me... creepy big foots.
  25. I got my copy yesterday and am half way through it already. Very, very well written. I can tell already I want more information, but keep them wanting more. LOL. I loved the White Hat section. That made me laugh out loud and my wife looked at me like I was crazy. I can just see it going down stream.
