  1. Those are some very nice.
  2. Your FIL is impressive Mitch. I always say food is too precious to waste but that's taking it to another level. Bro and I put up two button bucks last weekend, more than enough for us.
  3. We'll probably have 15-20 friends and family over. Smoked turkey and venison sausage dressing will be my job. Home made pies are usually the highlight, if everything goes off as planned we'll have a couple of pies to take on our fishing trip Friday.
  4. Anybody who can quote The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha and catch river bass is ok in my book. Good report Joe.

    River Bass

I still have a few from Mitch's test kitchen, I'm looking forward to the upgrade.
  6. I don't know the downstream border of the upper C&R area but both are very short. There are many areas that offer fine wading but depending on generation most require a boat to get to. Two web sites that give detailed explanations about wading and water levels are Dally's Ozark Fly Fisher and Ozark Fly Flinger, sorry for not including links but a Google search should take you to each. The bottom line is that due to wildly varying water levels the White is an extremely dangerous river to wade and boat. Once you learn to deal with water levels safely you'll have a blast.
  7. That's a tough stretch of river this time of the year, you did well.
  8. Do it! As long as you don't go right as a cold front moves through you should do well
  9. I was fortunate to do three overnighters in the last 6 weeks, some of the best smallmouth fishing I ever experienced in the Ozarks. A vacation, a golf weekend, deer hunting then our annual White River trip gobbles up everything until December. If the weather gets bad enough in I might work in trip to Niangua before the end of the year.
  10. Great report. Pushing vehicles in the water or off of bluffs was an acceptable method of disposal in years past. Take a look after all the leaves fall of the trees and you'll see many more.
  11. Nice fish, I can't speak for Coosa but the Gasconade has been fishing very well. On the stretch I frequent all the fish seem a couple of inches longer than in past years. I don't know how long it will last but if the majority of fish make through to next year it might be the best I've ever seen.
  12. Good luck Pete. I only get down to the White 6-8 days a year. Any success I have is usually the result of whatever the conditions are at the time. If the sun is shining I'm catching stubby finned Bows, if it's cloudy I have a chance for quality browns. I have no desire to get into a debate about MF but I'll never forget the countless days of bath water as far up as Wildcat. Mike,
  13. I'd use the 8wt. Throw something white and about 4 inches long over every log you see, pull the bait over the log and let drop on slack line until it disappears, on the the count of three set the hook.
  14. Yep, fish like this all day long.
  15. If I had a pole barn......
  16. Beautiful pictures and some fine fish. Yes if you don't mind I'll touch base next year if I can figure out a way to get a trip to Colorado in. Mike,
  17. Timbuktu? Really? That's embarrassing. How can they pick something that lame With so many interesting place names in the Ozarks?
  18. Is there much wading access the the Roaring Fork?
  19. Excellent report. I'm taking notes for my next trip west.
  20. That looks beautiful. The Browns should be getting active.
  21. Yeah, and a good example of how to get that bass in the boat and get a picture quick.
  22. Get the oil hot!
  23. From what I have seen some Indiana streams with marginal habitat produce smallies like the best stretches of our best streams. I'd like to know more about it. Good luck with you new home, keep in touch.
  24. As I have gained knowledge and experience my line test has crept up. I now consider 8lb test light, 12lb medium and 14lb heavy. If i didn't occasionally fish clear creeks I would stop rigging the 8lb.
