  1. Having spent many day trips floating Hog Trough to Tea and overnighters floating Tea to Mill Rock I would love to hear how that part of the river has held up. Two prime early season destinations for an angler fed up with jet boat traffic and partiers.
  2. I for one thank you Joe. You have inspired a new appreciation for home videos in many of us. I may well get my own camera so I too can contribute to the body of visual wealth found on this forum.
  3. Excellent! On a bright day too.
  4. I generally fish a heavier rod for a given task than most would, i.e. a 5-6 wt for bluegill. My choice is influenced by boat control and wind rather than fly type. One hand on a trolling motor or paddle franticly trying to maintain position does not lend itself to graceful casting. Typically a one handed roll cast pick up, a single back cast then shooting line that hopefully is not tangled around my feet is the way it works.
  5. I’ve heard more eloquent remarks from mean dogs.
  6. Haven't floated it I quite a while so I can't comment on conditions but if you made it down Niangua on the dead low water last month drifting boating should be fine. Personally I love the short section from HWY 8 to the spring branch. Small water for sure but an alert angler can find a few. After the trout opener you may well find as many stockers bunched up in the riffles and runs between 8 bridge and the branch as you would below the branch. Sure the Meramec won't fish as well as the other floatable trout waters but if your St louis based it's about all you have within an easy days drive. By all means do it and let's us know how it goes. How did you do on your Chistmas weekend float on Niangua? My brother and I were loading our canoes for an overnighter when you passed us by at the HWY 64 access.
  7. A statistically safe thing to do.
  8. You should be proud of us. When are you joining?
  9. I read: Organized Anglers, SBBSMA and SMA. Maybe I overlooked the MSA part.
  10. I enjoy the blog as well. Yes the 24" length limit has made a big difference.
  11. Laughter. Oops, we should get back on topic: We all suck at videos.
  12. From my limited experance watching such things the production quality on the videos posted here is light years ahead of the typical utube video. With the bar set so low I'd say the OAF videos are Oscar caliber. By the way has anybody seen a fly fishing for Bluegill video worth watching? Best I've seen if Bluegill Fishing with Irene. I like Irene well enough but I'd bet an OAF contributer could do better. Maybe I should go ahead and get a camera?
  13. Well bust my buttons, I was thinking about getting a Slow Pro camera. Guess I’ll leave the videos to the Oscar winning folks.
  14. Joe, Thanks for reminding us how good we have it.
  15. Louis White writes of fishing the prongs in his book Ozark Hideaways. I would guess it would take some bush whacking and ducking barbed wire and a person might have a bead drawn on them along the way. Stillhouse road crosses the south prong about 6 or 7 miles up from the junction, it would be a cool adventure.
  16. 1. Red Ryder BB Gun 2. River John w/ 300 cfs to float it. 3. I cannot live without rivers. 4. Flyrod. 5. Zara Puppy. 6. Sneaky Pete. 7. What's a jig? 8. Green Pumpkin. 9. Lures. 10. Smallmouth.

Great fish. Caught from shore too.
  18. Is that a 24' long river John?
  19. Me too, every day I notice I little more daylight, every day i'm a little more optimistic.
  20. Ah, another example of the appalling lawlessness the fuels my cynicism. I would be very curious to see how this plays out in court.
  21. have you seen how steep the height slope is on the graph today? Niangua did not get the rise a couple of weeks ago the the basins to the south east got.
  22. I guess it depends on what neighborhood your from. In the neighborhood where I grew up and where I've always worked the reality is much like that portrayed in Jacks links. Where I live and spend the weekends it's like that F&F noted, though i suspect much less innocent.
  23. From the USGS gages its just now cresting. Looks like it came up about 7'. Probibly bank full and muddy. Maybe someone local can put an eye on it.
