    Bait, as in live bait?
  2. Now don't confuse us with facts.
  3. I only saw one small buck and the doe he was chasing. I could have taken a shot at the doe but didn't because it was not a sure clean kill. Our family farm is in an area of the ozarks where road hunting, dog hunting, poaching and general all around poor hunting ethics are excepted practice. Deer numbers have always been poor and any deer more than two years old is rare. It a shame because the habatat is quite good and this year food is plentiful.
  4. I couldn't agree more. The White River tailwaters deserve to be more than put and take fisheries. Dave Whitlock once said it is like having a garden in the most fertile soil in the world and harvesting your crop just after it sprouts.
  5. A radio tagging study would be interesting for sure. Would we be able to discern a homebody bass from a 13 incher who's filleted carcass was tossed into the water?
  6. More hatchery delendecy. Maybe not such a good idea.
  7. What's really cool about these anImals is just how elusive they are. It's incredible to think that a cat that big can wonder anywhere in the ozarks for long and not be shot by a resident. In comparison a cat wondering from south Dakota to Connecticut unharmed would be a cake walk.
  8. It was a simple question with a simple answer. It's just a lot more fun to bicker about individual perceptions of the answer.
  9. No doubt the natural setting would not have survived public ownership If that had happened prior to the slightly more enlightend attitudes that now exist. Maybe Anheuser Busch's attempt to turn it into a source of bottled water was a blessing. Didn't Leo Drey play a role in the preservation?
  10. Once while hanging on a street corner in north St Louis I thought I was being robbed at gun point. When the robber finally drew his weapon it turned out to be a bologna. Turns out the ole boy just wanted to trade his bologna for a beer. I gave him the beer and let him keep his balogna.
  11. At least I wouldn't be ashamed of my score.
  12. Gosh Mitch, the future your describing is exactly what I fear, especialy the Hal 9000 fish locator. If this is what coming I'm giving up fishing and taking up golf.
  13. Oh Noooo, fellow fishermen, be afraid, be very afraid. When they put hooks on those things it could be the end of the world as we know it.
  14. The tail was probably pinned on by the same guy who takes his painted woodpecker to Arkansas.
  15. Wow, what a beauty!
  16. Taxing vice is as old as time. The question of what constitutes vice is what our society is confronting. Maybe it will be big macs and big gulps. Maybe it is time to start taxing churches. It's not wrong to debate these questions. It probably more wrong to just except things the way they are.
  17. Petroleum marketers and convenance store owners financed the campain partly because the gas stations on the boarders of the state do a banner business to out of state customers. Come to north St louis county and count all the Illinois license plates at the gas stations along HWY 270. If your an Illinoian your a fool to not stock up on gas and smokes in Mo.
  18. I enjoy reading about you boat building projects and the kayaks are truly beautiful. The software looks very interesting. Can it be used for canoes as well? I wonder if there is a similar software package for designing other types of boats?
  19. That somebody was the petroleum marketers and convenance store owners. Much like the billboard referendum a few years ago cooperate profits trump the best interest of our state.
  20. Great story, Good for that young man, he sounds like the kind of fellow I'd like to go fishing with.
  21. Niagua has been a spaghetti and meatballs river for me. Not pretty but you can cover a lot of water.
  22. Wow, those are some great fish. I doubt the average fishermen (myself) could do as well.
  23. Switching to trout this time of the year is what I've always done. Utill I got on this forum I had no idea where the creek smallies went when the water cooled. This year will be different, I have my first cool weather trip to a main stem river planned for later this month.
  24. On a trip in September we counted 150 horses in the river.
