  1. Fished yesterday from the crack of 9:40 until 4:00. This was my third time out this year and I finally caught a few so I thought I'd post a little info. Hopefully my info will improve in the near future. I launched at Eagle Rock and fished downstream. Caught 3 spots with 1 barely a keeper. The smallest one came on a 1/16oz Ned w/PBJ Zero and it was in 20-22'. The two larger fish came on a #12 Deep Down Husky Jerk silver (black back). All of the fish were relating to pole timber and 45 degree banks. All were inside creeks within the first 1/4 of the creek and on the channel side of the creek. Water temps were 40-42.
  2. Glad you had a great day on the water with your son! Very interesting info regarding the spoon bite. Thanks.
  3. I will bring brownies (made by my wife, of course) and a couple different varieties of pop (diet coke, etc).
  4. No doubt. Winter is especially bad. Lot of cabin fever afoot. ☺
  5. If you spend any time at all in the BBC Lounge, it would be hard to disagree with this attitude. However, there are some folks on that site that are an incredible resource and donate a tremendous amount of their personal time assisting others. Two exceptional examples come quickly to mind. Mr. Jones: http://www.bbcboards.net/electrical-wiring-trolling-motors/463613-talon-power-pole.html and, Don Weed who moderates the Mercury forums. You might answer that they are doing it to grow their own businesses and while that is no doubt partially true, I can personally vouch for the fact that both of these fine individuals have helped me greatly with absolutely no compensation. Neither are likely to ever receive much of my business as they are 900-1100 miles from me.
  6. Checked the Old Highway 86 ramp this afternoon and it was completely clear of snow and ice and in great shape.
  7. The TV shows are a condensed version of what is on the web. You get a lot more content with the web versions but you have to pay for it.
  8. Great thread! I enjoy both fishing alone and with others but definitely prefer the latter. I've been fishing team tournaments with my youngest son for 6 years and the way we get along and work together as a team is easily the most gratifying and enjoyable aspect of any fishing I have ever done. As I begin to regret the inevitable slide into old age, one of the things that comforts me is the ability in small part, to pass on the love of fishing and the outdoors to my sons and grandkids. Also, as much as I enjoy catching fish, seeing a son or grandkid catch one is a high that's hard to describe. Most of the time, I'm uncertain as to who is the most excited. Grandson, son, and me.
  9. Lol! I guess "little guy" and "little thing" will need to be added to the growing list of names for the "Ned"! A guy has to read daily to keep up.
  10. Customer service being what it is these days, I am always so pleasantly surprised when I'm on the receiving end of service that is clearly "above and beyond". Last Sunday morning, I sent a note to Dave (dtrs5kprs) expressing interest in ordering some of his Ned Rig (aka Varmint Rig) jigs. To make a not-so-long-story short, they arrived in my mailbox yesterday (ie, Wednesday). The entire transaction was such an enjoyable one that I think I will not mind too much if and when I lose these jigs in the rocks and have to reorder more. I will have ample opportunity shortly. My thanks Dave for your excellent customer service!
  11. What a neat video. A warm, sunny summer day spent fishing with a son and catching fish. One of life's greatest moments. I have tons of these memories fishing with my 3 sons and now my grandson and would not trade them for anything.
  12. You can also just go to this link to browse Navionics maps at your PC (no download required). Pretty slick! http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en
  13. As one that regularly lurks, I'd like to add my thanks for the great info shared on this site. I lurk to learn and also pass the time during our winter purgatory here in the frozen tundra. There are a couple of other recent threads that I've read through and I must say that the quality of the info is exceptional. As an obsessed bass angler, I have read hundreds of articles in magazines and on web sites and the vast majority are simply a waste of time. I've got the natural lake thing figured out pretty well but highland reservoirs are a complete mystery to me and my search for quality info on fishing them only deepens my appreciation for what is shared here. I spent 5 weeks on TR last year (Mar to early April) and struggled mightily trying to get bit. But, I do enjoy the challenge and to me, the chase is always the best part. I'll be back down this year, Lord willing, and if I ever get anything figured out and worth posting, I'll be certain to do that. If any of you find yourself venturing north here during the non-frozen season, just let me know and I'll do my best to reciprocate with the info. One last note, it seems that the terms "lurker" and "troller" are being used interchangeably. As a long-time BBC poster/reader, my sense is that the troller is more someone that enjoys stirring the pot due to some deficiency in their personality as opposed to a lurker looking to steal fishing spots. At least the lurker wants to catch fish. Thanks again for the info guys.
  14. Thanks. I would be happy to bring something like beverages or ? Just let me know what is needed.
  15. Any chance a yank could join the fun? Believe me, you have nothing to fear competition-wise.
  16. Don't know about the first 2 days but today he was in the Shell Knob area.
  17. I thought I'd go out and be a fan today. Had the good fortune of finding Mark Davis and Randy Howell.
  18. Fished a few creeks between Hwy 86 and the Ark line. Only one 13.5" spot to show for my efforts. Tried jig and grub, small Title Shot football head with hula grub, rogue, and A-rig. This is my first time with the A-rig and that's what I caught the spot on. Good news is that I had a kink in the shoulder of my casting arm and was able to work that out chucking the a-rig. Water temps were roughly 42-45. Awesome spring day to be on the water made especially sweet with the knowledge that my favorite lakes back home are still covered with 30" of ice. Gonna give it another shot today in the Cow Creek area. If you see a pasty white yankee in a white basscat with blue bolt, stop and say hello.
  19. Yes, $30. Picked one up yesterday at the USACE Visitor's Center by the Table Rock dam. Cash or check only. No CC.
  20. Sorry, that's probably my fault. Drove down from MN on Sat to begin vacation here away from the winter hellhole known as MN. Apparently, I dragged it along with me. Again, my apologies.
  21. Awesome fish and great report. Glad you got to enjoy it with your Dad.
  22. Just as I thought (kidding, of course!!). Thanks for such specific examples.
  23. Thanks gents!
