Isn't it funny how the non-retired gripe about the weather and stay home while the retired go fishing if it is anywhere between 125 degrees hot and 1 degree cold....rain or shine, sleet or snow, wind or calm, high water or low water, sick or well. How can you hate the weather if you stay in because of it, and how can you hate the retired because they dont let the weater bother them Love'm both and get outside!!!!!!!!! Source:

How Did You Get Started Flyfishing?
chambug replied to Justin Spencer's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
I lived in New Mexico for 8 years up until I was 18 years old. I was flyfishing by the time I was 10. We fished Chama and Jemez Springs streams and the Anamas River. We move out of NM when I finished High School and I went for years without fishing for anything but crappie. While I was in the Air Force a fellow airman got me started bass fishing In Altoona and Lanier Lakes in Georgia. For 40 plus years I was an avid bass fisherman....with the bass boat and all the riggin'. In 2004 we visited our son and his family in Arizona. He had just bought a fly rod and reel and wes itchin to try it, We went to Sedona, AZ....he fly fished and I used a spinning rig. He caught one trout while i caught about a dozen. But he was hooked. The next day i bought my fly fishing gear and we went to some streams in the White Mountain area. We each caught a few and I was hooked. Since that time I have caught trout in six different states, most of them on a lure i designed myself. For years a little place named Greer in the rim country of AZ was our favorite place. I was hooked on mountain streams and cold lakes. Then a friend told me about Taneycomo, and after a week at Lilley's Landing, I was hooked on two favorite places. Since then, up until my health took a nose dive, we alternated to each of the two favorite spots at least once per year. I miss fly fishing, but i hope i have at least one more good trip left in me. -
Congratulations, Ducky!!!! I'm sure you can find a men's store that sells larger shirts and caps to fit your swelled chest and head. I hope mom and dad are doing good. You might have to take dad to the men's store with you. That is indeed a fine catch.

My question is: Why do those on the shorelines of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf of Mexico insist on rebuilding on the same spots that have been devistated numerous times by hurricanes. Wouldn't it be logical to move inland to rebuild, save the beaches and tidal areas for wildlife sanctuaries and public parks and recreation areas, and rebuild the homes in neighborhoods on elevated lands beyond the reach of the storm surges and coastal floods that have destroyed thousands of homes and businesses time and time again. New Orleans is a prime example: How many times has it been destroyed in the areas that are actually 5 to 12 feet below sea level, while hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent on dikes, levees, and pumps that have failed to solve the problem. The storm surge in Katrina in 2005 varied from 22 feet in LA to 27 feet in MS (12 feet in New Orleans). That and the combination of straddling the Mississippi River resulted in.... 1,836 people died in Katrina and over 700 are still unaccounted for 80% of the city was flooded Damage amounted to 101 Billion dollars 275,000 homes were destroyed Later that same year Hurricane Rita struck and 60% of the recovery effort was nullified It has happened many time and it is just a matter of time until it happens again, and New Orleans is just one example. When will we learn?

I live just about 20 miles south of Texoma, and was born about 7 miles north of it. Back in the days when I was still able to fish, this beautiful lake was my favorite. Our favorite Texas vacation spot is Tanglewood resort on the lake, near Pottsboro.

What's Up With The Loud Noise And Big Lights All Night In Clevenger?
chambug replied to dsigmon's topic in Table Rock Lake
My cousin bow-fished 50-plus years ago, with a bow and arrows he made, fishing from a canoe he built. He was the first , I think, to design a break-away arrow head that allowed the floating arrow shaft to be retreived after the fish was landed. -
The only thing that would make these pictures better is a dad sitting or standing next to this good-lookin' young man.

We like to keep it simple: Gut some fresh trout, put it on a doublw layer of aluminum foil with the edges curled up. Pour a mixture of lemon juice and melted butter all over it, with whatever spice you like. Cook over any kind of fire or in the oven.. When the upside looks done (when the skin begins to curl), flip it over and cook the flipside about half as lomg as the other. Serve with fresh veggies, and a baked potato. After you sit around a few minutes talking about how good it was, serve up some keylime pie.

Fishing Lure Makers Wanted
chambug replied to Just another guy'd's topic in General Angling Discussion
I have a trout lure that has been through patent search and was deemed unique, but I could not afford the fees to have it patented. It is designed primarily for places like Taneycomo and Mountain streams where i have fished in the past. It has been successful in AZ, TX, NM, CO, and Mo. Can't fish any more but i can still make lures. What do you think? -
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!! God bless you and yours during the next year.

Welcome, Bigjon.... Arizona is one of my favorite places. Where are/were you located there? I've fished most of the lakes and streams in the rim area. MO is definitely a different kind of locale, but it is a wonderful place, and you will be expected to "make yo'seff ta 'ome"!!!!!

Huge Lake Of The Ozarks Bass
chambug replied to Fisherman Sam's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
It still amazes me how these big fish catch these fishermen sometimes. Way to go, Sam. That bass probably guarantees you will still be fishin when you get as old as I am.....lol. Thanks for the pics. -
Welcome aboard,DisFisher. You will find a lot of enjoyment with this bunch of rowdies.

A hearty welcome aboard to you, Tommy. I'm glad to have another join me in the senior of seniors group on the Forum. You did not mention what type of fishing gear you trout dish with. I highly recommend the fly rod for trout....there's nothing like setting a hook in a trout lip with a fly rod. The resulting action is fantabulous! I too was an avid bass fisherman for over 40 years, but I revel in the day that I rediscovered trout fishing, due to my son, about six years ago. ( I fished for trout in my youth at the lakes and streams of New Mexico, but got away from it, regretfully ) If you haven't yet got into fly fishing....do it. Go to W_____t and get an inexpensive kit that includes rod, reel, floating line, and tippet (and maybe even a few flies.) Again, welcome aboard! chambug
