  1. great idea using a guide will probably have a good time and catch fish. walleye are probably still spawning in some parts of the lake due to cold water this year. as far as tackle light rods and line and the guide will be who to follow on lures.
  2. I usually use 20 power pro on baitcasting with a 3 to 4 foot fluro leader. remember 20 braid is 8# diameter using 20 with braid keeps it from loading on its self. I do with 10 # braid on spinning reels with fluro leader. I only use trout tippet fluro which is thinner and tougher than fluro fishing line but cost a lot more. that's why I only use 3 to 4 feet of leader. I also only use hi-vis yellow can see it in all conditions.
  3. good rainsuit .
  4. Fished the james arm below cape fair and it was really muddy. myself I feel like tr is better when it is clear or just a little stain. my money says fish up the white or kc area down to cow creek.
  5. fished cape fair south to buzzard branch. 8 to 10 smalls. all on ned rig in the brush. threw a lot of stuff but no luck. water dirty about one foot visibility. temp 54 to 57 higher around cf lower at buzzard. lots of rigs at cf and Bridgeport.saw thunderstorm forming about 12:30 got off the water had everything put up and the bottom fell out. hope the guys fishing north of cf had a better day.
  6. put in at old state park 9:30 off at 3:00. threw the tackle box at them. shallow and deep grubs, jigs, swim baits, ned rig and puke tube. landed two and lost two on the tube in about 8 feet of water one keeper. temp 45 to 47 with 6 to 8 feet of visibility. saw lots of shad and fish in 40 to 60 feet of water.
  7. up towards the dam 3/19 water temp 40.7 found 41.2 back of coves.
  8. It works fine at Stockton. The key as in all mo. lakes is get the brush pile coordinates from MDC.
  9. i like them on 20# power pro with a couple of feet of 15 to 20# leader. use a loop knot. as noted by other guys some lead in front of joint and unlike other guys I use a heavy #2 vmc hook on back smaller lighter hook on front. keep rod tip high and drop as you get closer to boat. at times it is a great bait and will smoke any other top waters and at times it sucks.
  10. I have a hummingbird with 200/83. most of the time I run with both on. normally fish in the 200 will be red because they are in the narrow beam and in the wide beam will be blue. set your sensitivity up till you start getting a lot of clutter. run you chart speed depending on your speed usually I will set on 6 because I'm lazy. you will normally only see your drop shot in the 200 beam. when I drop shot I always turn the rts on this will show what is directly in your beam. On your di you need to really turn up the sensitivity or you won't see any returns. you will find after a little time out with the unit it will get easier and finding fish deep will be a lot easier. good luck and good fishing.

  12. minnowhooker thanks for the reply. going Monday think I will put in at state park and look around with my electronics.
  13. anyone been in this area lately. wondering about water color and temp. thanks for any help.
  14. clete and I put in at beaver landing 8:30 am it was colder than a mother-in-laws love. fished (trolled) from there to k-dock flickers, shad raps and a-rig.zero bites no fish no love. lots of fisherman saw one boat catch a crappie and talked to several others who also had no fish. tough day on the bull should have been there last week or fishing with Buster.
  15. Just get any that you can split the di and sonar.
  16. capndan couldn't agree with you more. I don't post a lot in the winter for sure because I don't fish that much in the winter. Another thing is I hate trolling because it bores me to death but agree it is a very effective way to cover water and catch fish. been using flickers for years casting on light braid and this seems to work for me. I don't crappie fish a lot except in the spring and then use a darter head with swimming minnow or trees and brushpiles on a adjustable bobber. Do enjoy the post and agree sometimes more info is given out then needed. Just remember anyone with a computer can pull up Ozark anglers and read what's posted. Keep up the posting but general info rather than specific could be better. If not charge them a guide fee.
  17. call me crazy but I like to fish them on 1/8 jika rigs. 3/0 hook thin wire will come through about any thing. like to reel them and drop to bottom. something about bouncing bottom lot of fish like.
  18. I had a dream about fishing in the future so I thought I would put it in writing. March 1st 2025 I have just purchased my new bass boat. this jewel is a 27 foot ceramic hulled ion turbine nitro ranger. It is capable of going from the dam to cape fair in seven minutes. many tournament fisherman are complaining it's to slow. This boat as equipped cost $650,000.00 or 2.5 million rubles. Standard equipment includes 2 model 3000 42 inch I-pad fishfinders. They are interconnected with 200 yards of surround vision and 2000 ft depth range. they can id the species of fish plus length and weight. all seats are heated with back massage. It also comes a trolling motor 250 pounds of thrust and is operated hands free with a google headset. also include is a hands free casting system. insert rod for a backlash free 100 yard cast. the plug of choice is a megabass 800 with inferred and sonar capabilities. this plug is controlled by a x-box 2000 system which will allow you to move your plug while watching you I-pad finder to any fish you want to hook. all you have to do is to net the fish after your hands free rod holder has fought it to the boat. an option you can rent is a 9 year old 4th grader to maintain run and program all this electronics which I don't know crap about. I also purchase a new ford Honda gm pickup truck with an ion turbine engine to tow this boat. all together with tax it is only costing me $900,000.00. what a steal. p.s. saw mr. babler out is his new 30 footer and 20 foot barge for his clients to ride in. barge has ac and heat for winter fishing. had about 20 people and 2 9 year olds operating the systems. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all Ken
  19. Clete and I went yesterday. put in at beaver and went down lake. Caught some whites and 6 short eyes. had two over 17 rest were runts. Most caught on a-rigs and a few on spoons. water a little off color and 45 to 47 degrees. they were running water when we got there and it seemed to help the bite. good fishing and a merry Christmas to all.
  20. you know this dum-butt probably just grabbed the easiest thing to carry. odds are he won't even realize what he has and the value. probably took it to the nearest pawn shop and got $10 to $20 bucks for them. bet the pawn shop knows the value. look for them on e-bay. tough break danger.
  21. looks like a wally but could be a sauger.
  22. Bill glad you got to do some hunting meanwhile the real men were freezing their butts off on the lakes searching for monster bluegill. good to have you back.

    Redfish

lived in panama city beach for ten years. fished salt 5 to 6 days a week. what we used for bait would whip any freshwater fish in the Ozarks. glad to see you were able to get in one good day. next time you go that way you need to schedule 1 day fishing offshore on the rigs for tuna and wahoo.
  24. you mean you did catch some fish? you are a man among men. how many and what on.
  25. alex you can set these to record down to a certain depth or bottom lock check in your advanced settings and see if this could be your problem.
