  1. All the analysis I've read points the finger at the greedy owners. From what I've seen, the demands aren't unreasonable. It's been funny to watch all the anti-union Republicans clamor for the unionized refs to return. Isn't this just the free market at work?
  2. Thanks for your opinions. The genesis of this came about when my TFO 4th was broken. I had to use my Cortland Fair Play rod (which I really love) and it is lined 6 wt. Casts great. My TFO has Cortland 444 line in 4wt on it but I have a hard time feeling it load. I want to slow it down so I was thinking of one of these half step lines. It was either that or line it 5 wt. Does this provoke any further thoughts?
  3. not worried. It's more of a back up rod anyway.
  4. Just sitting here wondering about folks' thoughts on whether you'd upgrade to something like the S.A. GPX (half weight heavier) or overline a full weight to slow a fast action rod down. I'd love some opinions. Also, is the S.A. GPX the only half weight heavy line out there?
  5. Well, I took it up to BPS outlet and had them throw a new tip on. I'll probably take it out later and try the cast on it. Guess it's an 8' 6" rod now, and no doubt stiffer.
  6. I've got a 9' 5wt BPS Dogwood Canyon rod that snapped between the tip and first guide below the tip. The break is right above the guide just down from the tip. I'm not sure how many inches down that makes it. My fault, I had let a trout run too far and doubled the tip too much, highsticking on the play...snap. Bad play on my part. I lost the top piece too, so I don't have it to graft back on (if you even could). My question is....can I simply cut the thread on that first guide and install a tip-top there? If so, what's the best way to do so, and where to get parts. I understand it would be fairly stiff at that point so is it even worth it? FYI----This explains why I'm planning on getting that TFO Signature Series 9' 6wt, LOL.
  7. Maybe that's the point. I couldn't afford a high end rod and doubt I'll ever buy one.
  8. What are people's experiences fishing smaller (7'6 or shorter) and lighter rods (under 4wt) at the trout parks? What issues have you had, and are they worth looking into for next season? Right now I use my 8' 4wt at the parks.
  9. I've got my 4wt TFO back and I do love it, but sometimes I feel it is a little undersized for Taneycomo. I had originally bought that one specifically for trout parks. I've got two reels currently spooled with 6wt line (one floating and one sinking), that I was pairing with a 9' 5wt Dogwood Canyon rod that's seen better days. I plan to replace that rod before the end of the year with a rod primarily for Taneycomo, and hopefully, next spring some flyrodding on the James for smallies. For a rod that will fish primarily at Lake Taneycomo and the James, what are people's thoughts between a 9' 5wt or a 9' 6wt? Is the 6wt too big for Taneycomo?
  10. You're right. I do find that hard to believe. I've never had much luck there myself. Were you using bait or lures?
  11. Mmmmm.....poo scented sticky sweet goodness.
  12. So, what's your fave 1/4 inline? I tend to prefer the Mepps Aglia dressed in either Silver Black or Silver White. They've produced in the past for me. As for cows, all I can say is yuck...., especially in the rain when the water carries it downstream.
  13. Maybe Hank Patterson knows a good way
  14. THat sounds tasty. I'm trying to visualize how to pull the head/bones out. I assume you removed the stuffing onto a plate, cut the skin behind the head to the bone and pull forward?? Also, how long on the campfire for that one? There was a good youtube video on how to debone/eat a trout. The guy has a few vids where he shows the frying of the trout and then on the plate with him removing the bones from the tail end.
  15. Wow, what awesome customer service. I sent my rod out by UPS on Thursday 9/6 and yesterday when I got home, there was a nice un-broken 4 wt waiting for me. So only 7 days including transit time to turn this around. That's just amazing. I will gladly purchase another rod from them, and hopefully later this year I'll pick up a 6wt from them if I save my lunch money.
  16. I used to get leaflets on my car all the time when I was at college from party promoters and such. Never from the Klan though. The worst is when I come home from work and there's crap like that on my front door. I've had political ones around here. It's an annoyance at best, a downright offensive pamphlet at worse. And thanks for telling the world no one's home. Pamphlets/leaflets should be handed out or offered to be taken...and that's it.
  17. Yeah, but Ham,.....Casey Anthony was kinda cute....in a psycho crazy wild chick kinda way. Drew just came off as arrogant and sleazy. "Personality goes a long way" - Jules Winnfield
  18. People are convicted of murder all the time on circumstantial evidence and without any physical evidence. However, the hearsay rule they created is a little sketchy. No doubt, it can result in more convictions, but doesn't make it right. But since when has evidence ever really mattered, LOL?
  19. It got real windy and dark in Forsyth this afternoon. It pounded rain for a short time, nothing lasting.
  20. Just finishing up "America Aflame", it's a history of the Civil War Also, about 1/3 of the way through "The Dark Monk: A Hangman's Daughter Tale" by Oliver Potzsch. A nice little murder mystery set in 16th century Germany.
  21. .I had to pause it to read the amendments. The first amendment didn't seem all that controversial to me, just somewhat unnecessary. The second amendment, well, I can understand the issues. There's a lot of controversy surrounding the creation of Israel as a nation-state, and it's been unresolved for over 60 years with no real end in sight. I don't know that I would have injected that into the mix if I was him. From what it sounded like, it was pretty evenly split on the final voice vote. What a poor way to proffer an amendment to the platform. Also, the auditorium wasn't exactly filled, so hard to say if it's a reflection of any majority or minority. On balance, these conventions are largely irrelevant in this day and age. I wish our conventions were a bit more "up for grabs". Since both are generally pre-decided. both conventions are mostly show-boating and do little to sway me one way or the other. It many respects it's like American Idol for future political wannabes.
  22. What is this HLS that you speak of??? Is that a local store?
  23. Yeah, I saw the aquaseal at Bass Pro tonight. Shoe Goo is cheaper. If it all does the same thing, I'll probably start with Shoe Goo since I have half a tube at home. I'll just pick up a small brush to help putting it around the seams. I figure I'll start with the seam near the boot (which I've thought leaked before) and then the area near the inseam where it looks like the seam is a little split. If those fail, then I'll try doing the whole leg seam.
  24. The story was that they hit the wake of another boat. It's clear that he never even slowed down and didn't appear to even notice the wake as he was taking it. I'm not a big boater, but common sense says if you're approaching a wake to cut it a bit. I have no idea why he would jiggle the throttle like that at all. Just another d-bag with a big expensive toy. These are the kind of folks that ruined the lakes. When I grew up there were some speed boats, but now they're just more powerful and everywhere on the water. Sadly, these fools don't seem to realize how easy it is to lose control.
  25. That's really cool that he tales the time to plan that and put in the effort. Thanks for sharing that one!
