  1. Done better on cracklebacks and P/P or zebra midges than I ever did on scuds. I've pretty much given up on them.
  2. I couldn't help but think it was too exaggerated. Maybe he was looking for publicity. He didn't endear himself to me with that interview.
  3. The fornicating on a picnic table in public is entirely true...........
  4. I've done very well for bream with a beaded GRHE in sizes 12-16 about 1-2 ft under an indicator. Make sure you bring your forceps because those fish inhale them.
  5. Feathers, I've never seen you, but I'm gonna take a stab at it and guess that when you are out hunting you are (A) dressed like a hunter, ( don't have long hair, or if you do it's washed, groomed, and well kept, © you're not drinking (as you said), or if you are it's discreet and you're not stumbling, and (D) you actually seem to be participating in the sport of hunting and demonstrating an appreciation for nature. I also suspect you don't mouth off or argue with the landowners either. Now.....next season please grow your hair out and don't wash it, wander around with overalls and a bottle (plastic, of course) of whiskey in one hand. Then walk onto these same people's property and see how friendly your interactions are.
  6. After reading the article, yeah, it looks like a homicide. Definitely a chargeable crime. However....I can't help but think that the "victim" wasn't much of a victim because it doesn't take a lot of common sense to realize that when someone is firing warning shots at you, you should probably retreat. Had they disarmed him, what would they have done with him? Assaulted him? Stolen his gun? Whenever I encounter a crazy looking long haired bearded dude in the woods, on the streets, or pretty much anywhere outside of my own family reunions, I tend to take a wide berth and handle with care.....better safe than sorry. It's usually the dog you don't know that bites you.
  7. There have been many sprited discussions on here lately. Personally, as a immigrant Missourian (only been here 8 years), I enjoy some of the commentary on local situations and politics. It has educated me and is enjoyable. However, the virtiol I've seen lately, quite frankly, saddens me. Seeing people refer to the leader of this free country with acronyms or otherwise butchering his name, to me, shows a complete lack of patriotism and love for the country. Love him or not, agree or disagree, he is our President and that demands respect. While there seem to be many good people on this forum, and many educated people, some of the folks I've seen commenting on this particular post I would honestly be hesitant to bring around some of my family members because I doubt they would measure up to their standards and because of what I would think the poster would judge about them at first sight. This, too, saddens me. So...while it is important and appropriate to post stories about shootings or other incidents on the river, measured commentary should likely avoid linking it to national events or controversies, and generalizing about the "types" of people who may be involved. That's my 2 cents.
  8. The Smallie Bigs Boat rental service???
  9. It is incredibly reprehensible what he is doing. That said, let's all put away the pitchforks and nooses. Mob action is never a good solution. Just ask your average Egyptian tonight........
  10. Ricky Staggs and Kentucky Thunder. They've got a few out including one bluegrass gospel CD I love. Rhonda Vincent is awesome. Can never go wrong with some old school Stanley Brothers Dan Fogelberg even released one called High Country Snows which I really liked. FInally, get the O Brother, Where Art Thou Soundtrack Anyone think we can con Justin into creating a Bluegrass Festival at Sunburst????
  11. The latest newsletter from MDC is advertising it with a 20% discount if you buy in July or August. Makes it $6.40. Now I just have to hold out a few more days
  12. I called the Springfield Regional office and they have it.
  13. Haven't bought mine yet. Kinda bummed that you need one for each craft. I have a kayak and a canoe and I'd love to only buy one permit and swap between them depending on what I want to paddle. I've never had the best luck at Fellows, but the lake itself is pretty and usually fairly quiet. More so than Springfield. That's probably the main draw for me. Still.....might get a muskie one of these days. Keep tryin...........................
  14. Out of curiousity, why soak overnight in buttermilk? What does that do for the fillet?
  15. Would be helpful if you listed what you have, and how much you want for it.
  16. I think much of it is generational. Things that my parents say or grandparents say are things that no one I know often would say or think. By the same token, I view things in a manner that people under 30 don't seem to understand. Part of it is also what you witness growing up. However, when it comes to public spaces, job markets, and the like, it is just best to avoid it all. Don't type it, don't say it on any type of recording, and don't put out a vibe by using coded language (those people, etc...). You may think it. You may act on it if you wish. But keep it to yourself. It just seems to be the way the world is these days. Feathers, I do know what you mean. I worked with a Haitian gentleman who was in college and raising two boys. He wasn't shy about using the word to describe American black men. He was clear that he hoped his children didn't take on many of their cultural aspects and often said that if he had a girl, he wouldn't want her to marry them. Weird.
  17. Heck I want to know more about the outriggers on that kayak......please share.
  18. Ah Wayne....if only I were union. Somewher Joe Hill is weeping in heaven after seeing his hard work wasted. Government contractors = zero accountability. Unlike the government, when the private contractor wastes the taxpayers money, they can always just declare bankruptcy, reform under a new name, and suck more money away. Read "Blackwater". Just say NO to PMCs.
  19. I love how everyone is so concerned about liberty, rights, etc.... The truth is that there are no such things as "rights" or the "rule of law". These are imaginary concepts fed to the people below those in power to placate them. They'll grant them to you just so long as it doesn't interfere with their agenda. If it does, there's all of a sudden a justification to suspend or terminate them, or a re-definition of terms such that no matter your argument, you are wrong. Not only wrong, but obviously not a patriot and with the terrorists. If the government wants to spy, they will. Nothing will stop them. Need a warrant? Not too hard to get when all your cronies are in the "government" also. There have been many dictatorships and totalitarian regimes whose constitutions granted the people "rights". Exercising them is a whole different story. So in the immortal words of Red Foreman "If the U.S. Government decides to stick a tracking device up your butt, you say Thank You and God Bless America!" Carry on Comrades!
  20. I assume you can just pick them up at the office if you'd like, right?
  21. Maybe it's me, but the first photo seems kind of bleak. Even with the sunshine.
  22. So I finally got some time off tomorrow and everything seems blown out. Was thinking of going to Bennett. Not taking a canoe out. I'll be bank fishing. Besides casting a fly line at Bennett, anyone have any other suggestions? Like the title says, I'm looking to drive east of Springfield, whether its northeast or southeast, I'm open. If like to keep it within 2 hr drive.
  23. It's an incredibly awful situation. I just hope this time their Senators will get off their butts and try to get some federal aid for them this time instead of posturing. May the Lord be with them all.
  24. In a gun safe, with a trigger lock on it. Ammo elseware. Anything less is reckless and child endangerment in my book.
  25. Might have to look into one of those. Of course, I'd have to actually catch a fish first to use it.
