Put in at the Lead Hill ramp if you call it that. High water has the ramp hidden, just backed in till the boat floated. The mayor of Diamond City and I helped each other with the trucks so we didn't have to wade in to get in our boats.Headed down lake and started hitting creek arms. Started with topwater had one bust up on it but switched to a fluke to avoid all the weeds. Had troubles early on. Saw fish on beds back in the grass but by the time I would see them because of bad light they seemed to do the same. Caught two on a jig both solid keepers. Mid morning went back to the fluke getting behind the bush but out of the grass. Started to get some consistent action for about 3 hours. Boated 12 fish all keepers but one. one nice 16" smallmouth. About 1:00 it seemed to end. Spent about an hour in one creek arm. Came in and heard a gobbler on the hillside. He gobbled at least 5 times a minute for the next 30 minutes, weather front had something to do with it but he was on fire. Havenn't fish Bull Shoals for a long time but was nice the be away from the crowds and I came out with probably one of beat one day efforts . Nothing huge but all solid fish.View attachment: FullSizeRender.jpg

got out today not early. ishinf Little Sac arm Didn't have alot of buckbrush in the water but threw up shallow. Started seeing some fish coming off the shore and then caught 6 fish in as many cast. All strong fighters 2 keepers in the group. Thought I was on the pattern. Next bank looked much the same only more brush in the water and some wind coming on to it so I thought this was it. Not to be couldn't come up with anything rest of the day.

I can see how just catching a bunch of 3-4# would get boring NOT! Yea I have thought about a June trip but there is alot of other places good that time of year. September offers fewer choices and alot of the tourist have probably moved out of Door County

Great trip hope to do it next year. Were the smallmouth in deep water? You caught them trolling or casting?

Does the marina at diamond city rent tanks or fill them?

missed your post till now. Caught bass in bays around timber on Roy. Went to Clear Lake one morning. Had heard great things about it. It seemed so featureless as compared to the other lakes didn't know where to look. there are reefs but didn't think spawning fish would be there. We left after only about an hour there. How was your trip?

I read your BW post. The bass are that size but it is an easy drive and you can camp in a campground which we did or there are some cabins for rent. Thinking of doing that next year

Had to figure out here to load photos first. Just got back from my 2nd trip to Roy Lake in SD. Went last year same time. Both trips were great. You don't hear much about this area but one look at Google maps will show you that there are almost unlimited options in lakes to fish within about a half hour of Roy Lake. Not much fishing pressure and 98% of it is on walleyes. hat leaves the bass virtually untouched. This year they were nearing the spawn, some nesting. Roy is clear with enough timber in the water that you knew where to place your cast and you could see all the hits. Used mainly flukes, lizards alittle and crank baits. Caught all the fish above with those techniques except for the carp. My brother is an avid bowfisherman and he had no shortage of targets. I would guess I would catch 30-40 bass a day with 2-3# being average maybe 5 in the 4-5# range didn't gett anything over that. Spent one morning with a guide fishing walleye. I easily boated 70 14" walleye on jig and minnow. Nothing big though. Our last day went went to Lake Waubay. The wind was howling 30mph so we were limited where we could go. Caught some small smallmoth but the white bass were literally a nuisance . 9-12" . Caught about 50 then started carp shooting.

If we steal their gate what will they do. Wtih their mentality they would tear up the asphalt.

Did the same trip today. warm temps amd bright sun but windy. Wind wasn't that much of a problem on the river. no fish to show for it though. tried marabou jigs brown and white also small silver spoon. Saw a few nice trout as we passed no takers nice day otherwise. Talked to one fellow in a kayak. he put in below 64 went down about a mile then paddled back. He said he had been doing well lately but nothing today.

Did that float twice earlier this year. Once past Prosperine you have the river to yourself. Seems like many areas of the river have just gravel bottom w/o rocks, not great smallmouth habitat. Caught some even some trout no more than a few miles above leadmine but not what i'd hoped for. Interested in your experienece.

I was up on the point at the mouth of flat creek last week. Lots of bait in the water Surface activity too but after waching for a while and not catching anything I found that they were gar. Long arcs on the finder as well. Seems likr the bass and gar don't like running together

I love fishing in it. I generally stand in the back and can work the trolling motor. I had a pedastal plate mounted in the front so with a fisherman up there he can fish sitting. 2 guys standing at the same time makes it tippy. It paddles and maneuvers much like a canoe but I don't risk getting it in tght spot. Loaded down there isn't much freeboard.

Yep 3 steep climbs to get there but not a bad shuttle the river has a lot. Of bends through there

I've floated upper section of the Niangua before but couldn't find much info as to the lower section. Went friday to check it out. Drove to the Lead Mine access and then using Google Earth made my way to Barclay. A couple of the roads it showed ended in deadends. I went back to YY which channges to Jugtown Rd. That junctions with 62-152 which led to Barclay spring rd. Put in there at 10:00. Started fishing w/o much luck. not many floaters on the water. Passed the campgrounds as I haeded downstream each had more partiers out in the water as I went. Started catching fish on the green worm/split shot. Surprised that my first fish was a 14" Rainbow. Started catching some smallies once I got in some areas where there was bigger rocks not just gravel bottom. Ended up the first evening just below the Oldham takeout. Caught a 18" smallie there. woke the next AM about 5:30 looked to the sky to see what looked like rain clouds. Got on the river alittle before 7:00, few light showers. Caught a few smallies, one 16". Rounde the corner and I could see trouble was coming. Lots of thunder and a downpour for about an hour. I was having to bail my boat about evey 15 minutes. after it quit the fishing seemed to die. Don't know if it was the storm or that the riverbottom had changed back to mostly gravel. Last fish I caught was another trout. My thought on this stretch of river. 1. Beautiful 2. Isolated 3. Lots of trees in the water which = lots of broken lines.

Floated from Barclay to Lead Mine Friday/Saturday. fishing for smallies but landed about 6 trout on a green finese worm all 14-15" Caught the last one about a mile above Lead Mine.Times I've caught trout up by NRO they were much smaller.

What road do you go on to put in or take out at Lead Mine?
-
Right now if your'e in the lower lake you should have no problem seeing it.

I'm not complaining about the numbers it just seemed that the fish were all the same size. we would pull in what we thought was a big one and it might measure 14" The 20" is my biggest river smallie ever. I spotted her in a deep whole swimming ahead of us. She swam down under a sunkened tree trunk. I laid a worm over the far side of the trunk and she grabbed hold. Luckily she didn't tie me up. I tried to upload the pic but it didn't seem to work I'll try again.I just bought a 17ft paddle jon boat. We had it loaded for 3 days. 2 of the guys were in kayaks so we carried all the camping gear, food and beverage. Had a 57# trolling motor so we breezed right over those flat shallow sections.
