  1. I'll agree that the Cape Fair area is tough right now but you can catch a few up in and close to the shore line brush with a 1/4 oz shakee head with a 6 inch green pumpkin finesse worm. Yesterday evening in 3 hrs we had 10 which 2 were around 3 lb keepers. So just have to get out and work the brushy points and pockets.
  2. I also use 30 lb braid and tie a 6ft 15lb fluorocarbon leader to the braid. Love the no stretch properties of braided line, I use long casts which is possible with using braided line without the hard hook setting of other lines due to the amount of stretch that's in mono and fluorocarbon line. You must check the fluorocarbon line for fraying often while dragging your lure through the rocky bottom.
  3. Wonder ever happened to the not starting school until after Labor day?? Thought there was a law passed sometime ago to that effect or am I just thinking so...
  4. I'll second using Ulrich and/or Marine repair both do outstanding work along with answering any question a person might have..
  5. The Cape Fair ramps have always had problems with parking space and especially when there is high water. What would help if the corps would turn the few camp sites just in front of the parking area at the first ramp into parking would help the parking situation in a big way. The marina took part of the parking area for their last dock patrons. When ever there is a fairly large tournament out of Cape Fair the parking is slim pickings.
  6. You have to install the Nmea 2000 network starter if you don't have and then add the sensors you want. There are electronic monitoring systems for each engine I know mercury has one and would imagine Yamaha has one also that will input all of the engine data into the Lowrance HDS units. The one for the Mercury is a few bucks more than I wanted to pay so I went the individual sensor route for fuel flow and level, and outdoor temperature may add the water pressure sensor later. The network starter kit is around $70.00 and then you might check into this for your engine 120-37 - Lowrance Yamaha Engine Interface Cable which may work for your Yamaha it may give you all of the information from your engine for around $130.00 on Amazon.com and may be found for less on Ebay. Search the internet you will find sensors to hook into the lowrance network.
  7. I'd wait also because there are new things coming, Lowrance is introducing 3D to their Gen3 touch screens and then there's chirp for sonar and when the new models come out there is always price cuts and rebates. I myself use Lowrance units an HDS 7 Gen1 on the bow, an HDS 5 Gen1 in the console,& HDS 10 Gen2 with all of these units networked together gives me what I need in Sonar, DI, & SI on all units. I also monitor my fuel usage and fuel tank level along with water temp, outside temp on all 3 units. Could also hookup water pressure, engine temp and others by adding the sensors to the network. So bottom line it is really how much you want and/or have to spend for electronics on your boat. Of course there are naysayers out there about using electronics in their fishing and boat operations but it is nice to bring up a screen with your map and all of the other information on one screen if you want it. So whether you chose Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin, Raymarine be your you get with each manufacture and ask questions about features offered on each unit. They all have their good points and less desirable points in their operation and future expansion. A unbiased opinion is worth it's weight in gold.....
  8. I'd say you had better keep her or there will be a lot of us standing in line waiting to catch her.. :-) ..
  9. I'm like everyone else I got one and my opinion is being more tolerant is what has got us to the point we are in today's world. Which is one hell of a mess, everyone has rights but those rights are beginning to step on others and no one is standing up against all of this BS. It starts with the tolerant leaders we have in Washington trying to run this country and it's people in to the ground. To show you how bad it has become is all of the hub bub about a cake someone did not want to bake.................................That was his right to refuse........ Lets drain the lake down get rid of the trash and lets fish like we are suppose to......
  10. Well said Champ..............
  11. Yep you did, this has to be done in the narrowest part of the lake that you can find that is full of fishing boats.............. Trying to get away from them.............
  12. Humm wonder if the scrap yard at Reed Springs takes old batteries. You might give them a call to see.
  13. It's just a sign of the times, no respect all around. That goes for some of the fishermen now days as well for the pleasure boat operators. They just have the me only attitude and to hell with anyone else. Boy what I'd give for the time to roll back 30 years to the time people respected their self and others not only on the lake but world as a whole.. Including the supreme court.... ;-) ...........What a crock..............
  14. Guys just remember when you're on the water you, your boat and what ever else is with you becomes the highest point on the water. Whether your rod is fiberglass, graphite, or plain wood they do not have enough insulation properties when you are dealing with the voltage and amperage generated from a lightning bolt. I've been guilty of staying too long with a storm blowing in and have had some close calls with lightning hitting the shore line trees scarring the crap out of me in the past.. before heading to shelter...
  15. I'll give you an AMEN Sac River you have really hit the nail squarely on the head......
  16. Then the only problem is getting people to volunteer to use them and that's like having a blizzard in 100 degree weather........ As long as it is a choice it will never happen..
  17. I agree if their is such an app..... I still think as long as a vehicle is turned on/running the wireless phone frequencies should be jammed inside any vehicle...period... As long as people think that they can do with no repercussions they will...or that they are superman and can multi task like a computer but your computer will crash and it only takes that one time to erase or ruin a life yours or that other person..
  18. I think I have an answer to the driving and texting problem and I doubt it would not cost very much to do with all of the electronics in the vehicles now days. It could be an add on device as well. Setup a grid inside the vehicle to jam any and all wireless phone frequencies making the devices useless unless the key/power switch to operate said vehicle was off. These laws against texting and or distracted driving just does not work, besides our law enforcement has better things to do than set around and try to catch someone texting and driving. You know if it was just the violator that paid the price it would be a different story but it's not always the case. People are stupid at times and that causes accidents.. Everyone has their moments..... :-)
  19. Did anyone figure out why those fish did not get caught. If no one was catching very many fish then it had been fished so much that the fish got educated to what everyone was using as bait which would be known as fished out. Fished out does not really mean very little fish or none it means that the pressure was so much that the fish acclimated to what was being thrown at them and/or there was an abundance of food. The animal world is not dumb in anyway, they will adapt to the point, that man pressures them into extinction.
  20. You have your head in the sand if you don't think that there is no fishing pressure on Tablerock. For every good fishing spot on Tablerock on any given day someone has already fished that spot before you get there and there will be 6 or more boats stop and fish that same secret spot you just fished.
  21. I know it was better, but you are not seeing the whole picture. You talk about a minority well just how many fish were taken just that day?? How many boats and fishermen were on the lake on any given day then if just half of that number took a limit of bass and then multiply that by 365 days and then years. Just how many would be taken in 5 years so its just not one stringer of fish taken when it could be thousands taken out. All we want to do is to preserve a natural resource for the future generations to come. That's the logic being used here.......Enough said and there is something to be said about leading the horse to water and it drinking......
  22. Hey 30 years ago it was better then than what it is now, many larger fish were caught. So why do you think the length limit went from 12" to 15" length limit and the daily limit was dropped from 10 to 6 per day?? Yes we were fishing the bass population out and of course we had a fish kill too. But the handwriting was on the wall and the MDC done something about to save it. That's when a lot of us went to a catch & release on our own to do our part in preserving a resource. There are plenty other species of fish in Tablerock that is as good and/or better than eating than Bass, Whites are everywhere and easy to catch. I fished then and I fish now and know the difference of what the increased pressure has produced.
  23. It has been a few years back but at that time it was very hard to catch crappie around Cape Fair and then the MDC placed a 10" length limit on crappie and the fishery has came back great. Of course the brush piles that have been placed in the lake has helped also. As the lake has aged the natural cover has disappeared. I remember Piney Creek having a maze of cedars on the left side going in and large trees on the right side. Some of whats left is just under the surface with a few showing above.
  24. But there is a posting on the MO Conservation by the health department on the contamination of our fish here in the state with type of contamination per length and species in our waters...Here's the link.. http://health.mo.gov/living/environment/fishadvisory/pdf/fishadvisory.pdf
  25. Maybe they should check out the Mo Conservation page on the note from the health department on eating our bass out of Tablerock lake. Quillback posted this advisory back in 2012 along with comments from Bill on the warning on consuming Bass.. It only applies to black bass. This from the MDC website: " Lab testing done by the Missouri food safety commission has found that black bass over 15" caught from Table Rock lake, contain unacceptable high levels of Mercury, Lead, Asbestos, and chloride. Lab rats, upon being fed small portions of Table Rock origin black bass, developed serious cancerous tumors and expired at an early age. The state of Missouri strongly recommends that all black bass caught in Table Rock lake be immediately returned unharmed to the lake, and should not be used as food by humans or their pets. Consumption of black bass from Table Rock lake could result in serious health issues or even death." Of course a person probably would have to eat several lbs before any ill effects maybe?? But it is a wonder that there is no signage to inform the public of this.. Remember there's Karma to contend with.....
