I'm glad we decided to release the big meanmouth my grandson caught especially when we got the replica back from the taxidermist....she swam away and Wyatt will have on the wall as well.

I have the privilege to jerkbait fish for bass and walleye with Buster on several occasions and I can safely say that as frugal as he is, he would not be using custom painted 110+ if he thought a bargain bin bargain was as effective......just sayin....

I get so caught up with get those fish back in the lake I do a poor job weighing and measuring the better ones. Maybe Santa will bring me a digital scale ?

If it's Tuesday, it must be smallmouth . . . photos

It seems like the shorts hit the wart from the side and the larger fish suck it in from the back.....most of the larger fish are not hooked nearly as well with just a hook or two barely in the lip. It seems like the nicer fish just load the rod up a bit also. I had a really nice one spit the lure at me boatside as I reached for the net.....it drives me nuts...?? -

Had a good couple of mornings near the dam this week so far. It seems the bite is on at sun up then slows considerably as the sun gets higher in the sky. I caught at least a dozen shorts both mornings and a total of 7 that would measure. All SM not a green fish in sight. I don't take many pictures. ...more concerned with getting them back in the pond. -
I had a chance to fish with Rick Clunn a couple of years ago and he was throwing the whopper flopper or a version of it. He could throw it so accurately around docks etc it looked like sniper target practice. It was unbelievable to watch.

RPS we came close on the smallmouth weight....grandson caught what many people debated was a SM or a meanmouth that was 23.5" with a 17" girth that the calculator says it was 6lb 7oz....not sure where you go from there when you are 8 years old....LOL

I took Dave's advice and bought the rod and I am very pleased with it. It works the bait very well and has enough backbone to handle a big fish. This rod and 6lb Invisix line seem to be made for each other....

Long story short.... My grandson Wyatt joined my wife and I at our place in Branson and we had a lot of plans to enjoy the amenities this wonderful community offers. Right after he got here, he asked me to take him fishing and, of course I said, YES. We launched the boat early morning Friday, July 17 and I hoped I could get him a bite and "hooked" on fishing. Right off the bat, he hooked a dink spot that jumped and got off at the boat. We found some fish but the bites were not happening. Just as I thought it might be time to go in and get out of the heat, he got a bite and started the fight....not long into the battle he yelled for help. I looked down over the edge of my boat and I could not believe what I saw. He did not need much help and battled the big girl like a trooper. I netted her and as she settled in the net on the deck, all Wyatt said was "Oh my gosh" several times. I thought to myself, "Wyatt you have no idea." I took a lot of pictures. I didn't have a scale or tape but she measured just shy of 23" and was a full 6" on the side from side of back to belly. She was released to live another day and hopefully make many more. I initially thought she was a smallmouth but have been told she was a meanmouth. I need the name and phone number of a recommended taxidermist to have a replica made. She should make him a nice Christmas present for his room. I don't think he will ever forget that day. I know I won't.

If parents had more legal liability for the actions of their minor children they just might pay a bit more attention....imho

I thought I saw Nessie the other day in Beardsley but dang it....it was just a big floating tree branch

I continue to be amazed how poor parenting is not attributed to parents. Meanwhile the public school system is relegated to babysitting and parenting by proxy. If you don't believe this, talk to teachers and get the scoop.

I am glad that I spent the money to network my two Lowrance units. I can share the map, share waypoints, and share a transducer if I want the co angler to view the same image. Side and down scan can be shared as well.

IMO this entitled attitude starts with poor misguided parenting. Children have been allowed to run wild in public getting in everyone's way, rampaging in restaurants, and not encouraged to be considerate, take their turn or wait in line like everyone else. They are special. This may sound like a seasoned citizen's reflections on the past but who remembers when children were taught to be seen and not heard, wait in line, and to say please and thank you.

My father nearly died of cancer at 44 when I was 4. Despite a very bleak prognosis he made it and lived to be 82. When he got well he started taking my brother and I to Minnesota and Canada fishing for many years until we started frequent trips to TR. These times spent with my dad fishing were some of the best times in my life. They are also some of my favorite memories. If you can take your family fishing! ?

Ned and other finesse baits causing deep hooking?
huntest replied to Jim Elam's topic in Table Rock Lake
Rps showed me some long offset anodized forceps that are just great. I ordered them and have had no trouble since. Simply grab the hook at the point of penetration push down a tiny bit and twist the offset forceps 90 degrees.....I have had more issues with tubes than the Ned Rig Randy if you see this do you remember where we ordered these.
