  1. Time to cut em off and tie on the Ploppers.
  2. It was a lot of fun. I barely made it into STL ahead of the storms, but those last several quality fish on the jerkbait made it hard to leave!
  3. Yep
  4. Hey Guys- Fishing is good. Monday afternoon I got a late start, and stayed close to Theodosia. 6 solid LMB keepers in about 3 hours of fishing. Water had a good stain to it, and fish were shallow in windblown pockets. Spinnerbaits and an Optima line thru swimbait was the deal. Today I fished 8am to 6:30pm, and ran down the lake targeting smallmouth. Had over 50 bass in the boat, with Ned and Keitech being the most popular, and the biggest fish of the day, a nearly 19" smallie, coming on a jerkbait when the wind came up this afternoon. Had 10 keepers, counting a few 13" to 16" really fat spotted bass, and a whole lot of 14.5" smallies. Flat pea and pea/ledge mix, both in the backs of pockets and main lake. Water temps 59-62, stained in the backs of major creek arms and clear everywhere else. Lots of floaters, including a couple big ones in the main lake, so be careful!
  5. As for catching smallies this weekend, look for pea gravel flats, and throw the ned rig, 3-4" grubs on 1/8 to 1/4oz heads, and the smaller paddle tail swimbaits. If you have lots of wind, jerkbaits are worth a toss. I also would have a Spook or a Redfin handy. As Ham said, it should be really good fishing.
  6. I'm going out of Theodosia in the morning, will probably spend a good bit of the day in the areas from Pontiac over toward Music, looking for smallies. I put in this afternoon and fished LMB in the colored water around the Theodosia area. I'll post a better report after tomorrow, but the fishing was good today. 3pm to 6pm, had 6 solid keepers, 2 were over 18", a couple squeaker keeps and two shorts.
  7. Yep. Those flat heads with the super glue are killer.
  8. pssst. dave. do you have the Ozark Finesse grub/swim heads for sale yet?
  9. I'm in the STL area, travel to Bull Shoals and LOZ to fish, could possibly deliver other areas as well, I travel around the state often.
  10. It's too light for the ned IMHO. It fishes way more like a light, almost an UL. More of a crappie/trout kind of rod.

  12. If it's a champion, bass cat, or legend, Dean's top and canvas in Mt. Home, AR, was probably the OEM. They do nice refurb work too.
  13. EE is a hard one to count out. I don't have a dog in the fantasy fishing game, but it would be cool to see him get a second Classic win.
  14. You really need both the rock crawler and warts. The crawler flat catches them in the 8-10-12 range, the wart is the ticket from the bank out to 8ish. It's a game day decision as to which to go with, even a cast to cast thing at times, IMHO.
  15. Nice Smallie! Thanks for the report!
  16. I'd expect a good stain in the back third of Big, I'd be a little surprised if it was chocolate milk, but others who live there can probably chime in with more accurate info. 24/7, what's Big look like?
  17. Isn't that the truth. I've been on a re-sealing and leak chasing mission the last couple days. Ain't much room to work in bilges and under consoles
  18. Lol, now that's a stealthy fishing platform right there!
  19. How would you keep the foam from getting waterlogged?
  20. I have some old central pro am and heartland magazines from nearly 20 years ago. You would be suprised how many of the names in the top of the tourney results are STILL the names in the top of the tourney results today. Guys that put in the effort to get out there and find fish, and keep skills up to date, and pick up new techniques when they are better and stick with old faithful when it's better are winning the tourneys. Fishing is time on the water, hard work, and constant learning, not a magic bait, $70K boat, or 46" plasma HD depth finder. The tools can help, but without time on the water and the desire to learn, they won't matter a bit.
  21. The ARig catches big winter/early pre spawn bags for sure, but you still have to find the fish and understand why they are where they are. It doesn't make a hero a zero. It does tend to foul hook fish too much for my taste, but I'll still throw it sometimes and enjoy it. It's not magic. The very same guys win ARig tourneys as won tourneys before the ARig, or in seasons where it isn't effective. It's always the Indian, never the arrow.
  22. I ordered an Okuma Reflexion 7' medium light spinning rod to try as a Ned rod. I'm a Loomis/Falcon guy, but I bought a casting version of the Okuma Reflexion for my father in law at a farm supply place and used it quite a bit on the lake out back when we lived in Cedar Hill. It fished real well for the $$, and had decent if not name brand guides and reel seat. I saw this rod on eBay for $55, and thought it might really fit Dave's theory of a cheaper "no feel" rod for the Ned. Supposed to get here today, I'll post when I get it and take it to the lake and see how it works, but it's rated 1/8oz to 5/8oz, so it seems like it's in the ballpark of a stick with a lot of tip and some backbone. I don't like buying rods sight unseen, but I've wasted more money on dumber decisions in life if it doesn't work out... LOL
  23. It's only going to get better. I actually had higher hopes for yesterday, with the active weather going by. We never really got much wind, and I stuck with power fishing reaction baits too long before adjusting and picking up the Ned. If I had gone to the finesse stuff early in the day, we would have stuck a lot more fish.
  24. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm aware Championship Marine is the top dog as far as glass work goes, and I will give them a call to get a quote. To be honest, if it was a newer boat with an issue that insurance would help with, I wouldn't even give it a second thought, I'd just drop it off at their lot. However, this boat is a 99, closing in on twenty years old, and no insurance is going to help with a rot/delamination issue on a 1999 bass boat. I'm going to be totally out of pocket on this. Because of the age of the boat, while I want it to look good, I'm really more concerned with it being done safely and saving any bucks I can along the way. I know a few of the guys that work or retired from the boat companies in the Mountain Home area do glass work on the side, or have smaller shops. Anyone know any of those type of guys that would at least be honest enough to tell me if I have major issues?
  25. Hey guys, I found a soft spot in the floor of my Champion. I'm hoping for the best, hoping it's just localized and a simple fix, although I know it could likely be really bad, rotten stringers, etc. The boat sat for outside without a cover for a while before I bought it some years ago, so anything is possible. I'm looking for an honest, and affordable, glass repair guy, pretty much anywhere between STL, LOZ, and Branson/Bull Shoals, Mt. Home Ark. It's a plus if they do carpet and install seats, as that was already on the list for that boat. If anyone has anyone they recommend, PM me, or post it here, and if anyone has anyone to stay away from, I'd appreciate a direct message if you choose not to name names in a public forum. thanks!
