  1. Akers to Pulltite sucks in terms of fishing but it is a very scenic float. Pulltite to Round usually produces better but not great. Round to Two Rivers is the better water.
  2. Call Two Rivers Canoe, you will probably see some boats, but not as many as in the Summer. Hope you have a great trip!

    What's Cooking?

Would add a little white pepper to your cream sauce...does not color it with black specks, but works the same..Wife has some beef tenderloin vac packed and in the pot with the Anova on at 130 degrees..Gonna let it roll all night, make some mashed potatoes, cut it thick then seer it in black iron tomorrow.
  4. Quality, Price, or Service pick two no longer applies I today's marketplace. You can't suck at any and win business. If price is the main goal, go with some neoprene bootfoots. They work fine. Want service and a guarantee, go Simms or Patagonia. Cabelas put out a good wader in the mid-price point, but Cabela's sold to BPS. Not sure how the warranty issues will work out. Might get a stellar deal on Cabela's right now,
  5. Chief your like a 4 yr year old asking "Why". Don't have time to waste on this, kids are going to bed, and I've got a couple tax returns to review tonight. Arguing isn't gonna change anyone's mind. Your opinion is what it is, OTF wants more MDC Kool-aid, pan fisher is the voice of reason, and I don't care about the MDC anymore. It is what it is. I'm done.
  6. I don't really care what you think OTF. Those folks know what a smallmouth is, but they don't know smallmouth, IMO. Why the heck were they sampling on marginal smallmouth water like the Black, Castor, Courtois Creek, and the North Fork of the White River? There are smallmouth there...but those streams will never produce size and numbers like the Meramec, Niangua, Gasconade, B. Piney, James, or Eleven Point. The only decent bit of water that they sampled was the Current. And they said they could make it great again, and implied that they had a plan to do so. But, they waffled due to a little pressure from a small group of tournament anglers. I was not impressed and I'll say so. I think they owe folks an apology for their sloppy assumptions, and their inherent biases...Doubt if their work would pass a peer review, but they don't have to worry about that.
  7. You could do the Bryant in June. Have not floated it higher up than Bell Bridge(95 I think) but has always produced a ton of small bass. Ocassional trout, escapees from Rockbridge mostly.
  8. Puglisi's baitfish patterns work very well. Have caught allot of fish (fresh & saltwater) on those. Might need a couple sink tips and shooting heads. Sinkers aren't much fun to cast. Best from a boat with someone else to boat monkey.
  9. 21 to Washington SP is a super short shuttle. Chain a bike up at the end ride back. One big hill to climb. Easier with a buddy to run shuttle.
  10. Al is correct, steep slope down the hill there. Not any easy paddle up from River Round but have paddled up from the access to your thumb tack before. Easier to float down from above or float down to Choteau. Dead body found at Chouteau about a month ago. Folks will steal your stuff if you make it easy anywhere anymore.
  11. More 15" water, but delivered nothing else. Think their studies were off, but is what it is. It is done, so I see no reason to keep all of those biologists on the payroll anymore.

    Brady

Pats just put it to them. Brady got his posterior kicked for 3 quarters., but they figured Atlanta out, did some incredible things to get a win. Not a football fan, but that was a great game.

    What's Cooking?

Pulling Brisket at 160? Tender or stringy? Should have a good smoke ring by the time it gets to 160, flavor should be there, but tenderness IS the hard one to hit.

    What's Cooking?

Smoked brisket isn't the easiest thing to do well. You have to have a good cut to start with (at least choice), and you have to know how to butcher it. Usually separate the point and the flat...Flat takes 6-8 hours usually, and the point take 8-10.
  15. Timing IS everything IMO. Maybe 5% of your time on the water is when it gets ridiculously easy The other 95% is boots on ground. Exploring and pounding up cold fish. That builds your skills. Catch the first, and observe, might be a pattern or a random catch.Cover the top, bottom, & middle. Dont waste your time. Move often if not catching. River-probably 3 casts to probe a spot. Maybe 3 more after a catch. Don't fish Lakes often.
  16. It is what it is. 20x30 space in the basement, 1/4 of the garage, canoe & kayak storage out back. Gotta get it now if you like it. Colors you like and baits go away as the tackle industry consolidates and turns into 5 colors in any bait and none you like. Thanks Johnny Morris!

    What's Cooking?

The duck prosciutto looked good to me. Most Americans are rather timid when it comes to food. Aunt Judy was appalled when I told her my "Nawlins Soup" that won the family soup contest was actually turtle soup with real turtle meat.
  18. Planned expansion was Scheduled for 2015, but it was not funded. Thinking doubtful now with Greitens in Office. Busiest Park in the system, sure to be a money maker.
  19. Hope they sell some shirts & hoodies, Mitch gave me one at their Big Business Launch. High quality, long sleeve quick dry SPF30 with logo. I'm sure they could sell a few.
  20. That's the best trout trip. Jadwin Canoe runs it if you need a rental canoe.
  21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3OjfK0t1XM Snake lovers will love this one....
  22. There is a metal lock box at the check in station in Loop 1...Write your information on the envelope, remove the perforated tag to mark your site, pay, then go about your business.
  23. 18-19" I guess. Chotuea Claim access on the Meramec. Mega 110 . Pic is not handy, might be on one of my old laptops. Rarely catch one over 12-14".
  24. Would use Cherokee Landing if you want to float the Big. Talk to Steve about his availability...He owns some property down at Blackwell but that's a 13-14 mile float and it isn't always an option. There is a rental at Washington State Park...but that is a crowded stretch of river...Expect to see a ton of jet boats. Your on your own on the Mineral, but folks here, might be willing to help you out. The Black is packed with floaters most days, and air clear...always tough. The concession at Sam Baker is a pain to deal with, and they usually run the Park to 34 float on the St. Francis. Its short and the fishing is not great. Coldwater to Sam Baker is 11miles...and fishing has never been great. Big Creek is the better float, but treacherous...5 sets of granite boulder shut ins and the concession wont run it if its under 2' on the Big Creek guage...Have floated it, and always worry about breaking an ankle on those snot rocks. Sunburst will shuttle on the Bryant & NFOW. 11pt from Cane to Greer is usually good in the spring, but the float is short...Then a long stretch of trout water...Gets better for bass down near the Arkansas line though.
  25. Ginger Mohair's are a staple in my fly boxes...Buy it the yarn at Hargrove's...They die the ginger leach yarn in house.
