  1. Goodwill factor for MDC is less than zero right now. Lost me, and many others with this dog&pony show. Sales tax money has made them fat & lazy IMO.
  2. Buzzbaits are not neglected. Coldwater and Hoff run that program. Not as productive as the dawg but both are big fish baits. Can't toss a treble hooked dawg through a partially submerged tree top and expect it back.
  3. Thanks Mitch. Thinking rings were the culprit. Have a peg full of those EWG's.
  4. What would change if their money goes away? Not much most likely. Laws are on the books, and they know what it costs to run the infrastructure. We have it good compared to most but thinking time for a house cleaning. Why pay for overhead that says it can't improve anything? I'd fire that person. Fast as you can, done right, constant improvement, be accountable, exceed expectations.....I don't see that. Time for a change.
  5. They don't get it, but that's all we are gonna get. It's done, and I will support a cut in their funding in the future. Did have the good fortune to float a rarely floatable creek on Saturday. No pressure on it, because the 15-17" fish were common. Factory split rings and hooks on the Giant Dog X suck though. Had a hook ripped off of two plugs. What do you replace those with?
  6. Figure those trains stopped a bunch. Dropping stuff off like FedEx at any point of habitation. Hauled more stuff than the Wells Fargo Wagon.
  7. Property trades all the time. Have no worries. You will probably get a better one in the future.

    What's Cooking?

Did two nice dinners for the fam in Ft Myers last week, but best meal was at a Greek place in Tarpon Springs on Saturday. The char grilled octopus, shrimp, and squid app was off the chart good! Served over some great tomatoes, cucumber, and pepperoncini with a garlic, oregano lemon butter and wine sauce. Mykonos...go there. The Columbia in Sarasota rocked too. Buy their cook book. Spanish & Cuban inspired.
  9. Chuck Tryon's trout books lists most of them but the info varies based upon the edition. Look for rail crossings and spring flow nearby. They stocked eggs at most rail crossings out of milk cans after the invention of the refrigerated rail car. Don't post location online when you find.
  10. Have not messed with the Alberto. 3 turn Surgeons is a 10 second knot. Fine for most freshwater fish. If bigger fish are the norm (8-10lb+) I'd spend the extra time on a better knot.
  11. There are quite a few places in that area with small wild trout populations. They stocked them all over the place in that area during the 1880-1890's. Plenty of out of business hatchery ops too.
  12. Looks like the property is on the gravel mined section right below Vida slab. Float through and check it out before you get too excited.
  13. Nail knots are easy to tie. I prefer a fly tying bobbin over the nail knot tool. Just slide the tag end through the tube, arrange the knot, remove bobbin, and tighten your knot.

Bingo! Snapper for dinner. Could not care less for most rice or potatoe dishes but would not give up pasta.

    What's Cooking?

All looks a sounds good! Scored at the market in Naples today. Family fish feast for 12 on the beach tomorrow.
  16. Ness, I would look in Oak & Hickory woods...usually on a sloped spot where the hill drains.
  17. Like the LC Gunfish allot, and the Cultiva Zip n Ziggy, plus those already mentioned. Some work better than others on any given day. Always have a rod rigged with a walker. They work in Saltwater too.
  18. Think the 2lb diameter rated for 6lb is the one I use for spinning reels. You can get away with a quick easy knot for the leader connection on bass & trout. Usually use a 3 turn Surgeons or a Uni Uni. Bigger fish... Albright and glue.
  19. Bolete, maybe Suilius, not one to eat.
  20. 6lb will cut your hand before it breaks. Wrap around a thick stick and pull straight till the leader knot breaks. Don't use your digits!
  21. Use the 832 on warm weather spin rigs. 8-12lb mono on my casters. Power pro is not as good as 832, usually use the thinnest one. 6lb with a leader. Way stronger than 6lb. Buddy has landed several 80-100lb tarpon on the 6lb with a 30-60lb bite tippet. Super thin for distance but needs a leader.
  22. Depends on were you fish. Think a 10' 4wt would be nice on a tail water, maybe a tenkara rod on a small creek.

    What's Cooking?

Super Picky guests can bring their own. Might do 1 easy vegetatian main dish if we have a bunch of folks over but that's it.Usually a quick pasta that goes well with my meat dish.
  24. He is an odd duck. Talks way to much about anything he wants to talk about and you get stuck listening till he is done.
  25. Nice catch! Good for you!
