  1. Dunno...I popped for a 10' 5wt Z-Axis just before the Grey's rods hit the market....I've been very happy with it on the NFoW, but I might add a Grey's when I get around too it.
  2. It depends on runoff as OB said...most streams are fishable by July 15th...mid August is usually the best hopper fishing but you may have afternoon stream closures due to high water temps in low water years..Not sure what the snow pack looks like this year. Cheers.
  3. Spot/Smallie Hybrid, IMO....no doubt about it...never fished that Lake, but I caught some nice spots out of Perris Lake years ago.
  4. Thats funniest thing I've read on hear in years Thom! You get my vote to stay as long as were voting folks off the Island:>)! Eric the Impudent v. the Obtuse Trout Fisher...I suggest a cage match...;>)!
  5. Looks to be in great shape...whats does the tube & sock look like? Any info on the rod sock or tube in regard to ferrule size & line weight? I think that model came in 2F, 2 1/2F, and 2 3/4F designations.
  6. Ordered 60 degree Gamakatsu jig hooks and some Mustad CK52S popper hooks last week......so it will be a bottom bouncer or a popper...Will see what comes in first. Gavin
  7. Thanks...The project Monty doesnt interest me......but I'd take a gander at the #10 Heddon if its a 7.5' or 8'...possibly an a 8.5'..Dont know if we've met...but I'm not hard to find in STL..my office building is within eyesight of Tom Hargrove's fly shop on Manchester Rd.
  8. Thats a very good day by NFoW standards. You must have A game! Thanks for the report.
  9. Thats a neat looking rod, and its in great shape...The metal spigot ferrule is interesting, I havent seen that before, unfortunately I'm long on 5-7 wts at the moment....You have any bamboo rods? Fly, Casting, or Spinning? I might be interested in some of those. Gavin
  10. I canoe in waders often, and I cant remember the last time I put on a life jacket..Probably a bit of stupidity on my part, but I just dont see a need for one on the streams I float on a regular basis. I'd definitely wear on if I was doing any lake canoeing, whitewater, or floating a big river like the Mighty Missippi or Missouri...Probably an inflatable. Cheers.
  11. Grip replacements & modifications are pretty easy if you have the right type of lathe....not so easy if you dont. What do you have, and what do you want done? Tom Hargrove can do whatever you want...but he's in St. Louis...www.thargrove.com
  12. What is your timeframe? If your headed out before July 15th...I'd probably stay around the Madison Junction, or West Yellowstone and focus on the Upper & Lower Madison outside the park, and the Madison & Firehole inside the park...After July 15th, I'd be more inclined to fish the Yellowstone around Livingston. In the park, I'd fish the Yellowstone in the Canyon, Slough, & Soda Butte. Dont waste your time with the Y. Stone below the lake...there arent many Cuttthroat left to catch. There is some great fishing around Jackson Hole and Cody too. Cheers.
  13. Jet boats are for douche bags...I consider buying one occassionally, gotta be drunker than 400 mexicans to consider it....but It aint gonna happen. I dont want to get trapped up in that big old hurry.... The craft you float reflects your personality in many respects...Jet boats.....just too darn fast, all about me, noisey, lack of respect to others..IMO..Guess theres a 10% that are respectful jet boat owners...but most seem to be jerk offs. Dats the way I see it.
  14. Ted, the field is open.....Chuck's out of the writing game so do it the way you want too.....some of his Trout books are great in some ways..Some good hatch chart info in some, not in others..200 smallmouth adventures..is a very good floaters guide...but you have to scout it.
  15. When I'm out floating solo....I've usually catch my best fish with two feet on the ground..I dont remember that many good fish while floating solo...Lots on foot, or while fishing from a canoe with a good paddler in back, or on a drift boat floats...Seems to work a heck of allot better if you dont have to mess with boat positioning and fishing. Cheers.
  16. Thats a shame....no reason to go back now !
  17. Just depends on what you want to do...I've got an assortment of rods. Most are 9' rods...but my light line shorties are fun for dry fly work and light duty wet & nymph fishing.... the 9.5 & 10' rods are great for indicator nymph fishing & roll casting.....Havent ventured into the Spey realm yet, but I may someday. Cheers.
  18. Havent been there in years....typical tailwater/trout park fishing for the most part......The best thing about the trip....The Green Chili Cheeseburgers at Sportsman's...Cheers.
  19. Simms or Patagonia...my last set of Simms (1st generation g3's) only held up for 3 years, so I went with a set of Patagonia's this go around...They have held up for 3 years w/o a problem. Cheers.
  20. Not sure what I plan to tie...thinking of something sculpin like, but maybe not...
  21. Dunno man...who would win in a Dino Fight? Giganatosaurus or T. Rex?....wont be long before we've pooched this planet...might as well start taking care of it....Admittedly, I'm not the best steward..but I could get better...How bout you?
  22. Dunno FW...we had allot of snow back in the 70's & 80's...not so much in the last 20 years...93 was a good year for snow...but I cant recall year with much of it since then...where can you find snowfall statistics?
  23. Something is going on. I'd tend to support the prospect of Global Warming because it doesnt seem to snow as much as it used to...I remember lots of the white stuff on the ground when I was growing up in the 70's & 80's...not so much these days. 6" here and there, but I cant recall a memorable snow since I moved back to Missouri in 1992. Cheers.
  24. The more the merrier...did 100 for a swap once....
  25. Yep. Its up to us....I've never been much on hunting...did plenty of it with my dad & grandpa. I enjoy hunting, but I'd rather fish....My girls will get plenty of firearms training, and go hunting if they want to...Still plenty of time for that.....My oldest girl is 3.5 and she's a pretty good reel er inner at this point....think she reeled in 10-12 this year...18 month old has yet to catch....but she knows what a fish is, and she is facinated by fishing stuff....I think that both will do really well next year. Cheers.
