  2. Looks like fun. Your not floating unless you roll one over sometimes!
  3. It’s not hard to work guests in on weekdays.
  4. Pumps are on, will be pitching decoys in a couple weeks.
  5. It’s tiny, like FW said. His tell all post is one you should save.
  6. The celery fly is a good one. Tiny black caddis can be good opening day. Bennet is one of the few places where you get a significant hatch in MO. Right now I’d be fishing a Madame X size 8 or 6 mostly. Black or with brown/black body and tan wing. Need to wind some, heading to the Current for Troutstock next weekend. See ya there, or not. Will probably day float Saturday. Walk in & hot spot Sunday Am.

    What's Cooking?

My wife is away at Girl Scout camp, so I’m cooking simple today. Pot Roast is on the stove so I guess I’m done cooking today.

    What's Cooking?

Pan fried chicken with a vinegar, ketchup, pan dripping & some olives in the sauce. Jacque Pepin inspired, was good with a simple salad and the last of our homegrown tomatoes.
  9. "Wasn't me, I'm guessing those fish were caught more than once in a tournament your honor. The defense rests."
  10. Wind & slack water are your enemies in one of those, but they provide a nice comfy ride in good current. There a bit wide for the Current, but fine on the 11pt, NFoW, Taney. Set up time is a chore, so bring it fully assembled, but with tubes deflated a bit. Keep it IN the water with tubes inflated in the summer time, deflate in camp...Bring the pump and patch kit.

    What's Cooking?

Getting my Hogfather on today. Their 3rd location is 2 blocks from my office in Maryland Heights.
  12. I’m sure Max had a good life, remember the good times.
  13. Your fishing will suffer from that.
  14. Justin Spencer is guiding fly anglers down there since Brian Sloss moved to the Catskills. He’s been doing well lately. Row’s an Adiopose Skiff. @elevenpointflyfishing
  15. It's worth parking on top of the hill and taking the hike down to see Greer Spring. You can paddle up to the spring confluence as well. That is worth it too.
  16. I really could not care less anymore, I’m just out there to enjoy my day not play fish/duck/deer cop. I usually set my sights on less crowded areas with people I know. Life is good when it rolls with few shenanigans.
  17. Break a leg!
  18. There’s a rental cabin @ Tan Vat if your pet is an issue, I’m not sure about the pet policy. We tow our camper down, so our obnoxious Aussie is always allowed. She did find a skunk in the CG a couple years ago. Pinecrest CG might have some options. Will be at Pinecrest for Troutstock 10/14-10/16, then @ Montauk on Thanksgiving.
  19. Big browns will eat minnow/sculpin but you’ll gut hook them with rigs like that. Dead sculpins/stone roller s in the 3-5” range are perfect on a quick strike rig. On small minnows a jig hook in through the mouth, out the gill, then through the side so the dead minnow lays flat on its side with its mouth tight to the jig. I just use the $$$ suspending jerk baits from Japan. It’s easier than cast netting for fresh bait.
  20. Just stay there, they keep the.cabins/CG open all year.
  21. Not fun at all!
  22. Had a bat eat a dry fly once. Late Labor Day hex spinner fall on the Suageen R. near Walkerton, Ontario. Ken Collins of Troutfitters was our guide that day, So he got the pleasure of releasing it. Had an owl crush a jitterbug once and get hooked. Maybe 2am on the Jacks Fork. Think it lived, but it pooped all over my shirt that took off to restrain it, release it. Not a pleasant experience.
  23. Thanks Al, I’m rarely out in March. Doing tax returns 6 days a week in that time frame.
  24. I think it’s a photo period migration that’s hard wired to day length and the harvest moon. Pure speculation on my part, but it seems to be a regular pattern over time. They seem to move back in late April.
  25. All that tells you is the Gravois arm isn't a place were a smallmouth wants to be for some reason. They could swim out of your creek, and go someplace in the lake that they like allot better. If you know where that is, and you likely do.....
