Why not? Other States with less conservation funding manage to live with some very complicated stream specific fishing regulations...Think folks in Missouri are smart enough to figure things out.

They work pretty well on most any surface thats relatively flat...just kick the big rocks out of the way. An air mattress will work too, but they are usually a pain to inflate or deflate...Jack's Plastics makes the best pads on the market but they are pricey....have my eye on the Silverback when my current pad gives up the ghost. http://www.jpwinc.com/pages/photo-pacopads.html

Figure a pound of it would fill a couple paper grocery sacks....be wary of ordering fly tying materials in bulk...FWIW...I usually buy the plumes as oppossed to strung blood marabou....you gotta pull it off the stem & measure it before you tie it in...but that is a good habit to get into anyway. Cheers.

Get some full length fat boy camp pads.....We use REI's 3.5" model...much better than a one or two inch pad......Better than my bed at home, IMO. Great in summer & winter...does a good job in sub-freezing temps if you have a good bag to toss on top...Thermarest pillows are a plus. Cheers. http://www.rei.com/product/778152/rei-camp-bed-35-self-inflating-pad

Good Grief....Chief Pessimism has come by late to deficate...Getting old Chief...What are you for anyway?

When its hot and the rivers are low & clear.......its hard to top a 5.25" Zoom Fluke in a baitfish color...rig it on a 4/0 EWG Hook...Glimmer Blue, Pearl, or Pearl with chartruese tail...1/8 or 1/4oz buzzbaits work great...but youll need a curly tail grub trailer (stinger hooks are optional)...4" walk the dog lures work great...Lucky Craft Sammy 100 in a white bellied baitfish color worked fast. I'll toss those 3 lures about 80-90% of the time during the summer months...the other 10%-20% of the time its a 4" Chomper Hula Grub, or a 4" Zoom Fat Albert in green pumkin, or green pumpkin with red flake...1/8-3/8oz weedless standup or a football head....they always catch bass when they wont eat the bigger near surface offerings....The main thing is just get out and toss them till you build confidence...leave most of your small stuff at home so you force yourself to use em. Hunt around the main sight for Al Agnew's smallmouth program....its worth an hour of you time to view it. Cheers.

Drew do the math....Millions of rainbows stocked annually for the fryer.....60,000 brown trout stocked annually...most in Taney.........the resource is smaller and they grow BIG unlike rainbows....a truly beneficial stocked exotic sport fish.....They require more management.

You can catch em pretty much anywhere that smallmouth are abundant. Keep your eyes peeled for forked sticks stuck in the gravel bars...fish for catfish there. Cheers.

I dont think we need to agree on anything...........We just need folks to write letters to MDC's regulation committee telling them what they want. If you want a statewide limit of 1 brown trout, and/or higher length limits, something else, or want to write in opposition...Thats fine with me too. The names of the folks on the Regulation Committee and the mailing address is the letter I put up a few posts back...

Just mailed my letter to the regulation committe chair and sent a copy to all the committee members...feel free to borrow from it. Mr. Tom A. Draper Regulations Committee Chair Missouri Department of Conservation P.O. Box 180 Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180 Dear Mr. Draper, It has come to my attention that it is presently a loophole in Missouri’s trout regulation structure that allows the legal harvest four (4) brown trout, 15” or larger from every one of Missouri’s Trout Parks, and that many are taking advantage of this situation. This policy appears to be inconsistent with the department’s policy of managing for large brown trout in the few places that they are found in the great State of Missouri and serves as a detriment to the fine fisheries located downstream from Missouri’s Trout Parks. In order to close this loophole, I would like to propose a statewide limit of one brown trout per day, two in possession with a reasonable length limit. I would propose a minimum length limit of 18” for our river & park fisheries and an increasing the length limit on Lake Taneycomo to 24” to match the regulations changes imposed on the White & Norfork Tailwater Fisheries by the State of Arkansas. I believe that these changes would provide a positive benefit to all of Missouri’s brown trout fisheries. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Gavin H. Poppen Cc: Mr. Chris Vitello, Fisheries Division Ms. Lisa Allen, Forestry Division Ms. DeeCee Darrow, Wildlife Division Mr. Larry Yamnitz, Protection Division Mr. Mike Kruse, Resource Science Division

Ask all you want, but MDC will never enact a no harvest rule especially for stocked exotics...Sent this email to that Chis Vitello guy yesterday.. Hi Chris, A discussion over on Ozark Anglers.com has unearthed a loophole in Missouri’s Brown Trout Regulations…Apparently its legal to take 4 brown trout over 15” in every one of Missouri’s trout parks, and that some people have been taking advantage of it. I’d like to see this stopped immediately because it is wholly inconsistent with MDC’s policy of managing for large brown trout in the few places they are found in this great state.…perhaps a statewide limit of one brown trout would close this loophole.…an 18” minimum in the park & river fisheries would be nice, maybe up it to 24” on Taneycomo. What are your thoughts on this issue? Thanks, Havent heard back... The State Reps cant do anything...but I suggest we figure out who the head of the MDC Regulations Committee is, and get his mailing address. Same for the Commissioners.

Look guys watch this, and Chuck Berry comes to mind!...Hey man look at this big turtle...Wholly $#20409!

I've snapped plenty of rods tips..usually the result of a previous damage, or negligence......but I've also snapped a few rods at the ferrules before...make sure those ferrules are tight and check them occassionally. Cheers.

Hiking The Ozark Trail Then Floating Greer To Turner
Gavin replied to Andrew324's topic in Eleven Point River
I think that youll end up with a nasty case of P.I. and a slew of tick & chigger bites, plus you might lose your boats...Greer CG is pretty busy place and there is a good bit of jet boat traffic on any summer weekend. Do it in the winter months if you want to hike the trail, but avoid rifle deer season. The BOB (Blaze Orange Brigade) will be camped at every river access. Cheers. -
Thanks for tracking that info down Idylwilde....posted the info over on the Ozark Fly Fishers yahoo group so hopefully the club will get behind it.

Each park has different regulations for the waters below... Below Montauk-1 trout over 18" limit Below Meramec-2 trout over 15" limit (appears to be legal to harvest 2 browns over 15") Below Bennett & Roaring River-4 trout, rainbows anysize, browns must be bigger than 15" (appears to be legal to harvest 4 browns over 15") The current regulation structure is a mess in regard to brown trout.....I think we need to clarify the regulations with a statewide limit of 1 brown trout.......with an 18" minimum in the parks & rivers, and maybe a 24" minimum on Taneycomo.

Didnt notice that...Good Catch!

Probably one of the worst films ever made... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bQc_rZumOw

Good one Cricket....I've broken at least at least two or three rods in the past year....all of them my own darn fault...New blank & components came in today though.

200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures
Gavin replied to TroutRinger's topic in General Angling Discussion
Gave em a poke on their facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Missouri-Smallmouth-Alliance/236321617616 Will see what they say...Wish I could get it in electronic format so I could edit out some of the obvious mistakes & changes. -
Here's the Code...I dont see a 1 brown in your limit rule other than on Taneycomo...If that's so...it needs to change. Why have a 1>18" rule on browns downstream if you can keep 4 over 15" in the park. http://www.sos.mo.gov/adrules/csr/current/3csr/3c10-6.pdf

I'm sure he'd be headed to the park store for a lunker patch and his name on the board.

Looks like a nice trip on the Jack's. Good for you!
-
Usually use a 6-9wt...just depends on the size of the fly, distance, and the fish...usually a 6-7wt for most trout sized streamers on a floating line...8-9wt with a sinking line. Cheers.
