  1. Buy a copy of Joe Humphrey's "Trout Tactics" and it will tell you everything you need to know about nymphing without an indicator...and allot more. Rainbows are flat out suckers for eggs & flashy little nymphs..Browns seem to like drab colored nymphs better than the flashy stuff. Cheers.
  2. I'd agree that the Feds dont take care of what they own. But I disagree with your statement in regard to the ONSR. I've been visiting the Current for over 30+ years, and I've seen many changes. I cant blame folks for wanting to drive down to the river, but I dont think that the folks oppossing the road closures in the ONSR have any idea of how bad the UA access situation has become. Friends of the Riverways had done some reasearch on the problem if you care to look it over. Cheers. http://www.friendsofozarkriverways.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10&Itemid=13
  3. There was a fellow with a Mokai who made several trips to the upper Current. From all accounts...it didnt work so well up there...sucked allot of gravel, and drug bottom allot. Saw the guy towing it down to Baptist Camp 4-5 years ago and reported it...Havent seen him since.
  4. Used to fish down at Bee Tree Park allot as kid....its got a good population of carp...fun with a can of corn, but too murky to site fish for them.
  5. I'm thinking Warmouth....They look allot like a Rock Bass but they have teeth. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/war/
  6. Havent read his book, but Kelly Gallop will be giving an all day program in St. Louis on April 2nd. Might want to check it out. www.ozarkflyfishers.org
  7. Here's a map...Mill flows into the Little Piney and its a 15 minute trip...if that..Spring Creek is right there too...Camp on the Forest Service Land up by Wilkins Spring. http://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2010/05/5632_3540.pdf Heres a better map of Mill and some of the trails around there...The Natural Bridge is worth a look. http://www.motrailblazing.com/files/kaintuck_motrailblazing.JPG
  8. Thanks Brian..my intial guess was 23" or so, but 22" and fat as a football is great too! Seems that the NFoW Brown Trout Fishery is giving the Current a run for its money these days. Cant wait to get down there in April...hope the water levels stay up.
  9. Cane Bluff to Turner is a good one...Great Scenery and some good smallie fishing...then some great rainbow trout fishing, but your harvest of trout & tackle choices are limited between Greer & Turner. If you want to eat some trout for dinner and catch smallmouth..Start at Turner and float down to Riverton. Cheers.
  10. Its in poor taste to speculate on the supply of $30 japanese jerkbaits considering that many people in Japan people are trying to find a supplies of clean water, food, shelter & dealing with loss. Lets pull the plug on this one.
  11. Its been years since I fished the Roubi, but it offers a mixed bag of smallmouth & trout. Usually more smallmouth than trout in the few times that I've stopped. A good place to stop on the way to someplace else but not worth a separate trip, IMO. The Big Piney is a very good smallmouth stream.... I've never been to Stone Mill and probably never will.
  12. Thats a great catch! What did it measure?
  13. Lane Spring is the best spot in that area...stay there if its open...though Google Earth shows a campground symbol on the upstream side of 63..off the road headed to the gravel pits on CR 627...I've never checked it out. Guess you could camp on the USFS land around Wilkins Spring on Mill Creek but they dont allow camping on Bohigian CA or at the FS picnic area. Bring your own water & a shovel. I wouldnt recommend camping on the Forest Service land near Mill Dam Hollow on the Little Piney because its a popular party spot. Cheers.
  14. Ted, Its been years....One of my dad's hunting buddies took us bow fishing down there a couple times. We caught a couple bass, shot carp & gar.

    Is This True

Its still hard to cover much water because of all the long slow deep holes and steep stream banks.... but I'm sure that youll find some wadeable water at some of the bridge crossings & low water fords. Cheers.
  16. I use the 6lb (2lb diameter) Suffix Braid in Hi-Vis Yellow with a flourocarbon or mono leader for plastics & jerkbaits...Attach the leader with a triple surgeons knot...Its way stronger than 6lb test, but the braid is so thin that you will need the leader for abrasion resistance. It will break at the leader knot if you get hung...but that beats the heck out of loosing a bunch of expensive braid and it seems to last forever. Cheers.
  17. Catawissa Conservation area...anything that swims in the Meramac can be caught there. http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/documents/area_brochures/7853map.pdf
  18. At least he wasnt tailing wild rainbows and hanging them by the tail head down...Might be a good fisherman..but he needs to show some more respect for the fish in the NFoW. They arent tailwater ditch pigs...
  19. Beats work! Thanks for report..Hatchmasters in Livingston usually had some innovative bug...its been a several years, but the Grossenbacher Guide crew usually stopped for some. Stay warm, have fun! Always wanted to ski the Bridger Bowl...
  20. No kidding, its always tough when its low. Wish I could make a trip down right now.....but I'm gonna have to wait until late April.
  21. Sounds like a great trip...Gotta love it when the water is up and the fish are friendly!
  22. Simpson, Creve Couer, and Spanish Lake allow public boat access, so does Port Hudson Lake up toward Owensville...I've taken a canoe out on Simpson a few times with mixed results (crappie & bass) but I havent fished the other lakes. There are some strip pits down in Catawissa too.
  23. Thanks for your efforts OB...Will keep an eye on the mail box.
  24. Thats a great trick with the roux Ness...will have to try it..If your brother is the guy with the ribs...I'd never turn those down. Did that shrimp recipe tonight...didnt have any Creole Blend made up and head on shrimp not available..Picked up some Tony Cachereres, 2lbs of 16-20ct shrimp tails, and a baquette at the store tonight and did it up per the recipe. Hot sauce was Crystal....Turned out great...Not too hot, great sauce to soak your bread in.... no shrimp left.
  25. Spoonie snagging...I wouldnt say that it is unethical. Outside of my experience...but not unethical by any means....Spoonies are worthless as a traditional sportfish because they wont eat bait, lures or flies on a consistent basis. We pay to stock them and they provide some sport and a cooler full of meat for those who chase them. Nothing wrong with that IMO.
