  1. At one time this used to be a fairly good smallmouth lake. What is the condition of the lake now?
  2. Is there an annual stocking of muskie in this lake? What are the numbers like now?
  3. Do they still stock any trout in the lake? Years ago they would stretch nets across the boat slipes at Chastains and load them up with trout to be released.
  4. Do they still stock trout in the pit west of Columbus?
  5. Are all these docks still open to the public for fishing?
  6. Anybody fish this lake? I'm driving by there this week.
  7. I don't disagree about habitat loss, but there also has to be some explanation for the scarcity of wildlife in areas that are prime habitat. I may have explored more corp land than anyone around the lake except for the corp workers and can find no semblance of the wildlife that their trying to attract. Deer yes. Quail none, rabbits scarce and Turkeys on a drastic decline.
  8. I have messaged him. Hopefully he will send me a picture.
  9. I will try to get a picture to send to you.
  10. Obviously there is a disconnect with nature for someone to spout something so idiotic. Maybe this should be on a different thread, but I am more concerned with what has happened to the Turkey, rabbit and quail populations. I live out in the sticks next to corp land on Stockton lake. Four years ago on my 26 acre property I had 50-75 turkeys traveling through my property. All told I have seen 3 this year. I have scoured literally hundreds upon hundreds of acres in Dade county which includes prime corp land to once again see one quail for the last two years. Haven't seen even one. I have constructed a couple of dozen brushpiles and have seen three or four rabbits. One of my golf friends at Umber Heights constructed a sophisticated Armadillo trap in April in his back yard. The last I talked to him he had trapped and killed 46.
  11. Nice limit of fish. I notice most are Black Crappie. Is that the predominant crappie caught on TR.?
  12. Those fish have been genetically programmed to stop growing 1/16" short of 15". That has to be true because I've put in 60 years trying to disprove it.
  13. When I have let out a 100 yards of line my chances of getting hung within in the first 30 seconds go up to about 99.9%
  14. Did you make it today? I saw only 5 or 6 rigs at Ruark whenI passed at 7:15 on the way to Dr. in Bolivar
  15. Lake is 3' below normal. It can be done, but at a slow speed. Night fishing is ok. Day not so much.
  16. Wilson's Creek National Battlefield just outside Springfield
  17. Are you going to Old or New State Park. Our Friday nighter is out of State Park Marina 7- 1 Friday night
  18. Sorry no one in the know has replied to your question. There was a report on less than a week ago of someone catching a limit of crappie in 30' under lights. Nearly every weekend there are usually at least two boats tied to bridge piers on the H or Y bridge at Ruark. In the past I used to anchor north of Mutton close to the channel in 40' and did well. To do that usually means using two anchors because of the wind.
  19. That's the way we did it when I was a kid growing up in Harrison. We would go down to Crooked creek and catch them. We would also leave the tails on. They were real crunchy.
  20. Bill I totally agree. I live on Stockton. There are some people that never are satisfied with just catching enough for a meal. The crappie are fairly easy to catch, yet some think it's some kind of great accomplishment and post their three man limit of 45 two maybe three times a month. One or two bad spawns and the same guys will be criticizing the Conservation dept for the handling of the lake.
  21. This time of year I rarely ever go during the day unless it's real early in the morning. I have been catching some at night around Cedar Ridge on a 10" worm.
  22. Are there any decent boat ramps up river past Hurricane Deck?
  23. It will be interesting to see if they can sustain in Grand. If so it might be worth a go on the White river chain of lakes.
  24. I put in at Cedar Ridge too on Monday. Motored to Maze at full throttle with my 150 four stroke Mercury. Fished about 30 minutes. Fired up motor. Got up on plane and the motor shut down completely to idle speed. Maybe 3 mph. Took me about an hour to motor back to the Cedar Ridge Campgrounds. Started hiking to the public ramp and George the park attendant gave me a lift to the public launch at Cedar Ridge.
  25. I for one think too many tournaments is primarily responsible for the poor quality of fish. I think I counted one time 89 in April alone. As Bill said, that won't change because of the money involved
