What Should We Do About Mass Shootings?
Feathers and Fins replied to jdmidwest's topic in New News and General Discussion
Just an FYI those are all three Winchester model 70's and if anyone knows the name Carlos Hathcock that gun was one of two he used ( three if you count what he did to a 50cal). And one of the best hunting rifles of all times. JD thats my entire point. Just because the military or a military sed a weapon doesnt make it bad, Heck no weapon is bad in the terms it will go out and hurt someone it takes the bad person to use it so by that a hammer is just as deadly and a nail gun is just evil. -
Possibly but certainly not with a jighead, they may work well with either of those two option. as big a fan of K-baits as I am i was having high hopes for them.

Ive played with it already and really dont like the action or the fact it keeps getting the tail hooked. Might have an application but i got frustated with 10 tail hooks in 30 cast that to me is way to many.

Agreed Jeb, But here is the interesting question if it is shutdown how can we pressure AGFC to buy all the property and turn it into a public area for all time. Great chance to turn a loss into something good for the community.

Honestly I have no clue how your name got in there i didnt even notice it I just hit QUOTE from Justins post. more website issues maybe? Chief a Military grade weapon at the time of our constitution was whatever was in the hands of the people at the time, Same for the Civil war even and in the Indian Wars our goverments weapons were outmatched by repeaters for a time. Our Military does not manufacture weapons Civillian companies do. You know the differance between a civilian AR and a Military one? Full or burst for the military aka select fire... Civilan single shot, but many the guys I know with the civilian version have upgraded barrels and most other parts of the gun they are of larger cals and much more accurate and reliable. The Military version is 5.56 Nato where many of the civilian weapons have been upgraded, I personaly like 308cal with a Krieger custom 28'' barrel 1.7.7 twist matched with a swarovski bullestic turret scope and will reach out and touch something, Ive put brown down at a long way off. I wouldnt ever try the shots with a Military AR I would with that gun. The reason I posted the above paragraph is to show these guns have gone way past military application. But where i keep shaking my head is people calling them Military weapons they are NOT. Unless someone has the licensing they cannot own a SELECT FIRE WEAPON. they cannot own a grenade launcher or anything else the Military or Police have. The big cry is the Magazine Size or the Looks of the gun and thats stupid I can take a old 870 Shotgun and in an hour have it looking as Black as the Ace of spades is that then an " Assault Weapon" I want one person to tell me what an assault weapon is? -

Let me put this thought out there. How many lives are lost to gun deaths by criminals each year? Now how many people are killed or injured by a drunk driver each year? We have technology to but a breath tester in every car made, you think the gun lobby is powerful what do you think whould happen if the goverment came in and tried to make that mandatory. It would save far more lives and injuries every day than any ban or restrictions on weapons ever will yet we dont have it. -

There is one armed officer at my wifes school. There are 14 points of door entry and another 30 windows that can be broken and walked through. You cant stop someone hellbent on doing harm. An officer is a deterant and might save lives but multiple armed attackers will do damage. Armed teachers might help as well or give an attacker an additional weapon. Im for the officer on campus but not blind to the fact of what a dedicated attacker can do. Here is a times link to the Mass Killings in our country back aways. http://timelines.latimes.com/deadliest-shooting-rampages/ How many dog related deaths in the same time or car deaths I can go on and on but I think people will get the point. But I know the High Score aint been beat and all the hype these shootings get feeds these monsters. -

First I sure as heck do not want shrink being able to keep people from getting guns ( anit-gun shrinks ) can you see where that goes. Next is, what is so dam hard to understand about the words SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! How many of these mass-shootings in the last 20 years were in gun-free/ safe zones care to guess? Columbine and Sandy Hook the weapons used were not owned by the shooters they were stolen as the shooters LEGALY could not buy them or own them. Yes I think our schools should be secured but I have said this since 9-11 NOT for fear of a lunatic but the pure purpose of a terrorist is to install fear in the population and anger. I am honestly suprised they havent hit a school yet! There are more gun laws than you can imagine adding more laws or regulations will not work they are not working now because a CRIMINAL doesnt care about the law and the trend is sucide after the fact so no law we could make would matter one bit. If you want to know what an Assault Rifle is; it is in rifle that can be used to assault that could and was at one time Muskets, What about Assault Shotguns or Pistols or homemade grenades. Assault is a sad term and to many people think AR stands for Assault Rifle and it doesnt if you didnt know that already. Maybe AK stands for Assault Kick. What is they answer? Bad people happen and they happen to good people we can try to secure our schools but then where will the next one be a Movie theater? Oh wait done maybe a McDonalds ooopppsss DONE, maybe a post office errr Done. Are we going to secure every place in this nation with armed guards? How about banning guns all togeather ( pesky constitution in the way ) Maybe we should take an example from Israel and learn bad things happen and learn to deal with it and not let the horror of what a few people do affect our freedoms our rights or our daily lives. If it had not been for the MEDIA this would not be affecting any of us it was a local event as were all the others. BUT Death Sells and is good for politicians causes as well. So lets stop letting these nutcases dictate our lives and loss of freedoms and understand there will be bad people and no matter how much we try to be safe one or two might actually do what they set out to do. -
LOL. Its been a great year just being out I think most of us wouldnt trade it for the world. We cant control Mother Nature and she is in control for sure, but i look at it this way, next year there will be more birds and if not well no sunrise in the fields, marshes, lakes and rivers can ever be called a bad day.

If you have google earth go to the calender option on it and go to 9of2006 it will help see some of the hazards. I ran around for a little bit this afternoon more to meter launching areas and here is what I found 1. Prairie Creek. Use the furthest left 3 lanes of the ramp ( that is if you are standing at the top of the ramps facing the lake LEFT ) 2. Old Prairie creek dirt road where the Army corps just put the block wall. You can launch here and appears to be in decent shape but you will have the back of your truck in water so use caution. 3. Beaver Shores ramp. This ramp is open but if you go more than 16ft out you will drop your tires off it. 4. Back of Avoca. Shoreline mud flats it might be possible to launch smaller boats but I wouldnt try launching any heavy boats here 5. Montne. The ramp looks like it is fine I did mark a large objest about 18ft off the ramp possibly block or tree stump so use caution. 6. Montne dirt USE THE RAMP the bank is mud and you will get stuck. 7. 12 Bridge, As always watch the center between the two lanes. the left ramp has a rock out in front of it about 50 ft or so, keep your motor trimmed up and go to the left. Left ramp I think will be good unless we loose another 2 feet. USE EXTREME CAUTION if you head from the ramp to the bridge it is very shallow some areas only 8inches deep I advise going around the island. 8. Rocky Branch North ramp looks good but limited parking. 9.Rocky Branch South Ramp. Use Caution stay as close to the dock as possible many chunck rocks on the right side of the ramp and its now to a point you will be in sand to launch so have a 4x4 if you have a long trailer. I tried to do some math on that ramps and estimated distance from them to still safe for my boat 18ft from shore and if the lake continues to drop another foot to 14 inches the ramps will start becoming interesting to say the least. I used both my upand down and side scan to try and guage the ramps. This by no means is 100% accurate just trying to help save some people costly repairs Check each ramp and use it at your own risk everyones launching technique is diffrent as is the length they need to properly launch. Other obsticles to beware of are the stick ups in Avoca, Many large concrete blocks and other obsticles in the back of Prarie Creek, The points on the island closest to Prairie Creek Marina on the North side of it extend a long way out and will eat your lower unit. The island in front of rocky branch Northeast side has several sand/rock bars out of water but also alot of them still under water. Montne south side is decent but some trees i never knew were there so use caution. If anyone else has anything to add please do, Ya i know i just gave some hints to good bass spots when the lakes back up but i rather see people fishing them than sinking their boats.

I guess my opinion on line is simple Fluorocarbon 4, 8, 10 and 12lb is good enough to land most any fish that can be caught in our lakes. I have landed monster Tarpon and Line cutting Snook on them granted I needed a heavier leader for those two 30lb for snook 80lb for tarpon but the main line held up to them. For lure fishing I dont like leaders one bit and just tie straight on. If im fishing big cat areas I will bump up to 15lb with a 30lb leader. Live bait and cut dead baits circle hook help reduce the need for a leader by the design that hooks fish in the corner of the mouth. When it comes to line I pull off 10ft before every trip and retie after each fish i cut off the length of the fish and retie if i feel or see a bur on the line. Every 10th trip I respool. If cost is a probelm then my second choice is alway been ANDE line and used it for years before the new lines came out. Personaly I think people get to be "fans" of a name brand or try to be the bigboy namebrander I have done it when ( trilene) came out with its Big Game line and regreted it after loosing fish on it the knot wasnt as good nor was its abbrassion resistance. So i use what works and if i see issues with it over a few spools time I will find another line. The only line I have ever used that I would 100% tell anyone by name is best is ANDE but it is not invisable or abbrasion resistant as floro. In a tourney I always used it I might not have got the bites and had a few more break-offs but I trusted it to handle the higher volume of fish. Hope that makes since.

If Beaver drops another 6 inches i did some calulation and people will want to stop using the ACE ramps, most you will fall off of, Use Old PC dirt, Beaver Shores, Rocky Branch the old dirt road, Montne Dirt, etc those you dont have a concrete fall off from.

Low light in areas with high concentrations of shad, When i was doing a lot of reptile collecting I learned the word crepuscular it really defines fish activity as well though you can catch them at anytime being in the right place at the right time that magic time of day though is most productive. Cloudy days are second. It is not so much conditions for the A-rig as it is being where the high concentrations of bait is around and when the forage switches to crayfish more than shad the A-rig goes way down in productivity. Also depth is a key to it I found it is best from surface to 10ft pushing down to 12.

Shad are balled up better and shallow the basneed to follow the forage fish. Shad will go shallow durring the day to the sun warmed water this time of year and the bass will stage in those areas to make the best of the oppertunity as it comes. Thats why flats and points are so productive. It all comes back to where dinner is. You will also be able to locate the balls in open water where the bass are under. Good anglers go to the restraunt to get the patrons.
