  1. Alot of people ask question about what reel and rod to use, there's alot of pro and cons on this. I have tried 6' to 7'8" and settled on 7' rod and the reels I personlly like 6.4 to 1 but some prefer 7 to 1 especially in shallow like Flippin. On the rods it really depends on your height and how you set the hook. Like Ryan said if your fishing deep or even shallow for that matter, a longer rod helps in setting the hook.Generally you'll want a heavy action rod ,you don 't want to have alot of give in your rod otherwise you will have a bad or poor hook set.If your just starting out don't go out and spend alot of money on a rod and reel unless you got alot of money.take your time on fish with this lure you can catch some of the biggest bass of your life with jig and frog.
  2. I use them all the time and actually everything you wrote you can do. I personally beak it down to 3 ways 3/8 oz--0 to 5 fow, 1/2 oz-- 0 to 15 fow, 3/4 oz --0 to 20 + . this is just a basic guide line, a good friend uses 1/2 oz for everything. Color is really personal preference. the most 2 popular colors are Green Pumpkin and Black and Blue flake. I generally match the trailer and for me I always use the critter craw by Berkley. You can use this year around because it always produces but more people generally use it in the spriing and summer Pros like Denny Brauer had made a very good living using the the JIG. I could go on for hours talking about using this. Maybe I can come to the event in July give you more info

  4. That makes 2 of us, I wasn't sure what it was at first I've never seen a otter at stockton before
  5. Well I learned something new today, The said part is I was told by a Game Warden that what I wrote was correct otherwise I would have never wrote it down The discussion over several hooks has been crazy sometimes
  6. I've used this before and it is a blast to use this time of the year but with all the talk of the A-rig about hooks and everything I believe you will need to drop one of the treble hooks, Technically you have 4 hooks

I agree, I think checking you line often is the more important factor. I for one on a average fishing trip I will retie several time through the day ( 15 to 20 ) I was reading about I believe Edwin Evers and he retie's after catching every fish caught just my 2 cents

  17. Thought I would share my fishing report for this past weekend, Friday, I started down by the dam along with several FLW Pro's and never really could get it going caught a few shorts but nothing to get me excited about. So the wife and heading up the James River Arm we ended up catching 37 fish all large mouth with 4 Keeper's biggest 3.4 lbs we fished from 7:45 to 2:30.all fish were caught on a WW Saturday I fished the team AIA and finished 2nd with 19.67 lbs, we ran all the way to Cape Fair we caught roughly 20 to 25 fish on a WW and a Jig, Overall a good day, we caught fish all day and culled twice all large mouth. Sunday I fished the Solo Pro AIA and I finished 6th with 12.97 lbs had 5 keepers and culled 3 times all large mouth, all on WW Overall I had 3 days of decent fishing but the only way I could get on fish was 45 degres banks in about 12 feet of water and it had to be stained otherwise I couldn't catchem. I tryed to do some flipping but never could get a good bite going.
