  5. Working it off man. I’ll fatten up this winter as usual 🤦🏻
  6. Got on the water for a few hours this afternoon and traveled to find some water not like chocolate milk. It was dingy when I hit the river and pretty swift, so kept my approach simple, cover water and go with the flow! It wasn’t a numbers day but a quality size kinda day, Which I was more than ok with. The sauger I caught doubled my previous personal best, and actually was just 1 pound and 1oz shy of the state record! I fished today because I wanted to give my cotton another day to fluff out after a 5 inch rain, I went to keep me from getting antsy to pick. Glad I went 👍 Bret
  7. Ham and I managed to catch the same fish 3 weeks apart about 100 yards from the hookups. My catch was 3 weeks after his. I believe she’s fattening up for the winter! In the fields again now will be awhile before I get back on some smallie waters!

  15. Did you get a flint or the frontier ?
  16. Got to break in my new kayak ( a NuCanoe flint) last weekend on the Southfork, felt good to get back on the water. I’ve fished some this spring and summer but haven’t for any smallies since March. Fishing was slow but didn’t care a whole lot. Had some good quiet time in this crazy awesome setting!
  17. Glad your alright. Yeah it’s amazing how fast the water can rise in those creeks
  18. My son and I decided to social distance at our cabin for a day and night for my birthday after a rain halted field work here on the farm. We left yesterday and got to the cabin at 6pm. I looked at the lake and saw it was dingy from all the rain but it called my name, I was imediately thinking crankbait or spinnerbait! It was cold and windy but I convinced Landen let fish till dark so we launched the boat. He wanting to learn more about boating and insisted he wanted to run the trolling moter which I always do. So I let him and told him head over to a favorite point of mine, where the bank levels off more slowly, thinking be a good place to throw a crank. I had a spro Rock crawler I had planned on tying on, but my favorite crank rod had a teckel drunker tied on from my latest river trip. I’ve had good luck with that little deep diving crank thanks to Ham for introducing me to them. So I was like I’m gonna chunk this for a few Minutes then tie on the spro. Well Landen positioned me in a good spot and made my first cast. The second cast was towards a fallen tree, bout halfway to the boat she hit. When I drawed back on her the drag began to go. I said son get the net it’s a biggun! Finally I worked her to the surface but I failed to remember my net had a big rip in it from December’s Jigfest, well Landen netted it beautifully but she ripped the hole even bigger and fell back in the water. So the fight was on again but this time my line was through the net as an added level of difficulty ha ha. I had Landen hold the net as I once again surfaced the fish, by this time it had one treble left in the thin part of its upper lip. Finally got the fish back up and grabbed lip and rubber net all together to land it. For a few minutes there it got really exciting ha. Didn’t have my scales for some reason, guess I took them out of the boat? But she measured 23 inches long, don’t have a girth measurement either. Looking at some charts I’d say she’s around 8 pounds! I’ve fished this lake my whole life, including my dad since 1965, and I’ve never caught one this big anywhere. Just right place and right time and right cast. Letting Landen run the trolling moter for the first time may of made this happen to! Today is my birthday and can’t think of a better present! Bret
  19. Let him practice on my coosa today in a local pond. He did great
  20. Landen is wanting a kayak this year and curious what some of you might recomend for an 11 year old? Gonna start out on our little lake at the cabin and when he gets better try the southfork or something similar easier to navigate. I have an original jackson coosa and have loved it so far, thinking he might need something little more stable?
  21. Been using this grease here on the farm for everything from bearings to wear points on farm equipment. It’s doesn’t mix with water like some cheaper greases so I really love it on wheel bearings. Haven’t used it in my jet pump yet but I’m out of the marine grease as of last time I greased it. Think this would be fine on a jet pump to?
  22. Put in at lobo Landing and you can fish 2 or 3 miles of river just take it easy, it’s a deep stretch of river with tons of grass beds. Pretty good fishing round there. Anywhere else in the trout water section of it would be Risky. Plenty of good water at Lobo to have a great day fishing
  23. Here’s one of my favorites. We took my jet up a local farm drainage ditch known to have some bass and had a good little trip chasing some kentuckies
