Kelty is not bad stuff at all. They sell alot of lightweight camping items (backpacking) and are not very expensive. (not cheap). I typically use midgrade items. No matter what you buy tent wise, seal all seams. I would buy this tent if I was in the market, but Eric may be on to something also.

Jim, any motorized boat, be it electric or gas is required to be licensed/registered in the state of MO. If it is paddled it does not need to be, but there are some restrictions on the website listed above. **** UPDATE **** Wrench, you were absolutely correct. I recieved the card in the mail along with my title (seperate envelopes). Now I will feel much more comfortable when I am out. I only wish that it was made of the waterproof material that some maps, and fishing licenses are made of, It would possibly last longer.

I have seen remote control boats with lures trolled behind them, but using them to 'deliver' the lure instead of casting, that is a neat idea. Nothing that I would care to try, but neat just the same.

Many state parks have "primitive" camping spots. I think this is what your describing. You may also be able to go to land owned privately and camp if you get permision from the landowners. I was diciplined via spanking, slapping in the mouth, etc. I can tell you that I was diciplined to show respect, and to feel shamed if I recieved the punishment. I am now in my 30's and I will break down and cry like a baby if my mom was to spank me today. Not becuase of the pain recieved by me, but because of the disrespect I must have shown for my mom to feel that she needs to punish me. I am a firm believer in diciplining your child at the time of the offense, make the punishment fit the offense. The whole " Wait until we get home.." " I'm gonna tell your father, and he's gonna...." in order to threaten children, in my opinion, is a waste of time. Just my two cents. Raise your children with respect, and demand respect just the same.

Very helpful, and interesting info. I have been under the impression that it was not that involved, and this is the first I have learned that these boats need varnish. It sure seems like a big job to tackle, but the end result seems like something to be proud of.

Status: Rare and declining due to water pollution, habitat loss, reduction of egg-laying sites and overharvesting. Missouri and federal law prohibits the importation, transportation, sale, purchase, taking or possession of animals on the State or Federal lists. If fishing, check your limb lines and trotlines daily; if you catch one of these rare turtles you must release it unharmed. I went fishing for the 1st time this year. I tried a new spot with my 5 year old and and old fishing buddy. We went to Morse Mill Park. It has rained off and on for a couple days, and the river was up, along with a strong current. I walked up river a little bit to find a boat ramp :-) (very nice surprise). Just past the ramp was a calmer area just outside the main current. This was our spot. I caught about an 18 inch channel cat at approx 7pm. As dark was coming upon us, and we were cleaning our spot, my son wanted to fish off of the boat ramp. He managed to catch a fingerling size flathead catfish. He was as happy as a clam. We were using nightcrawlers as bait. Water was very muddy. Both were released for others to catch. The channel cat seemed to be holding eggs. Good luck to all.

:-) LMAO Probably catch a few browns, I have second hand info that they are good that time of year. ;-) Never been able to fish that one, pretty exclusive from my understanding. Back to the real topic. You guys have a neat idea with a community float. I would like to attend for a day or two, if I can make it happen.

Yea, the guy that was there kept saying that it was huge for a ground hog, before we seen its tail. :-) I'm just a city boy, Ive seen many rats, possums and roaches, but this is the first beaver (except on tv, or the zoo). (edit) Oh, I get it (second time I read your post). Nah, the creek was MAYBE 25 feet wide is how it should be read. (doggone public education)

So, if they are releasing, why are they gigging so many? I believe someone earlier in the thread mentioned the tags being paid for. How about making a requirement for the tagged ones, the bass must be photographed, with the tag attached, in order to be paid. I am sure there are ways around this, but the people looking for a quick buck would be dettered. I believe we must come up with solutions, not just complain to the MDC, in order to be heard. Just thinking outloud.

I took the kids down to the creek to play, (have a 2 year old so I didn't expect to fish) at West City park in Festus. There was a family fishing and splashing in the creek. The dad caught a (I believe) Hybrid/striped bass, and a very dark colored spotted bass. They were about 8-10 inches the ?Hybrid/striped bass? being on the smaller of the 2. The father let my 5 year old use a rod and reel, and gave him a few worms to use. Very nice guy. Specifics: Time was about 6:00 pm, no clue on water temps, (kids were playing in the water), both were caught on live nightcrawlers slow retrieve. Approx 8 feet of water. The bass I not sure on had dark stripes going longways, maybe 1 broken line. Side note, while the kids were spashing and others fishing I noticed a large ground hog (so I thought) directly across the creek (maybe 25 feet wide, MAYBE). It paid us no attention. As it moved around, I seen its large flat, black tail and knew I was wrong in telling the kids it was a large ground hog. It stayed on the bank for a good 5 minutes that I know of, then got in the water and swam about 30 feet, and went under comming up about 40 feet away from where it submerged. Good times with the kids, met a very nice family and my son got to try to fish. He zero'ed. OH well, maybe next time.
