Manual fillet knive
fishinwrench replied to Dutch's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I've had all types & brands, but my favorite by far is the old wooden handled Rapala's. Not the hardest steel for sure, but a few quick swipes on a steel.....or even across a shovel, lawn mower blade, screwdriver shaft, or hard rock.....and she's right back to razor sharp. -
I tried like hell to get my youngest daughter involved in detailing boats. The older two did a fine job until they grew-up and got their own careers, but Mama has spoiled this youngest one to the point that she's TOO GOOD to scrub pontoons or stick her hands into any bilge areas. 🙄

It is so COLD out there this morning that my truck door unlocker wouldn't unlock. My truck was like....."Dude, NO! Get your @$$ back in the house and leave me alone !'

You can enhance the "jiggyness" of a fly with dumbbell eyes by placing the dumbbell closer to the hook eye. The farther back it is....the more the fly GLIDES. The closer it is to the eye....the more it JIGs. I dislike those jig-style hooks, they remind me of "Euro"......and I'd rather lick fish poop off my boat carpet than to fish a stupid Euro nymph. 🙄
-
There's really no need for it. The dumbbell eyes keep it right side up regardless.🤷♂️

I think these are gonna be my new favorite Crappie fly. I don't like his hook of choice though.....So I went with a standard Clouser hook.

I've officially gotten to the age where walking across ICE makes me feel like a geriatric patient. 🙄 Especially if it's on a slight incline.....which is EVERYWHERE around here. I miss the days when busting my butt was FUNNY !

Yep, or just go have lunch and come back a bit later👍. Eventually, sometime during the day, those fish will decide to turn-on, and you'll catch one every cast. Remember what time it was.....and if conditions don't change the next day, come back at the same time. I'm not a fan of FFS at all.....but I am definitely a fan of what I have learned by using it. I spent a lot of years thinking that the old saying "They just ain't biting" was a cop out......but nope, it's REAL ! -
Tell her to ask her supervisor why INSURANCE is paid ? And if they are considering dropping those polices also ?

The Float & Fly guides on Dale Hollow are absolutely tearing up the big smallmouth using FFS right now. 20-60 per day, all over 4lbs. 😲 Is anybody doing that on TR or Beaver ? -
You sure it's mud ? Dog turds thaw at the same rate. 😅 The girls gave Orion a pedicure during Christmas break......Let him out to go pee immediately afterwards, and what does he do ? Steps in a pile of his own poop !

Why, so I could eat fish chunks rolled in stale corn flakes every other Friday ? -
Agreed. Nothing turns my place into a muddy guagmire like 3+ inches of melted snow. 🙄

I quit keeping full limits of White bass and Crappie because I don't like spending that much time filleting fish ! It only takes 6 of them to feed my family 👍 and I don't have a church group to try to impress every month. -
Bigmouth Buffalo 100+ years old
fishinwrench replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Odd thing about gar, there are certain spots on the lake where they are always thick, year round, and for no particular reason that I am aware of. There has to be a reason why they congregate in those little areas.....but whatever that reason is remains a head-scratcher. 🤔 They've been there reliably for 30+ years at least. And yeah, I can verify that sinking brush around a "Gar hole" is a waste of time. 🙄 It would suck to buy a piece of lakefront property, then discover that it is a Gar hole ! -

I'll say this......The backend flats, where I do a large portion of my fishing, were way overpopulated with Buffalo and Carp before the bowfishers came along. I think that any species that is as hearty and long-living as Buffalo are, require some form of predation......and the bowfishers definitely took care of the imbalance that was undeniable where I fish 👍 While the piles of rotting carcasses at the boat ramps were a bit disturbing for awhile, there's no denying that SOMETHING had to be done......and bygod they got it done ! -

Yep, hell I learned how political Mountain Lions were a couple weeks ago.....And I learned it right here on OAF. 😅 Those bastards should run for state office ! -

I have had to stop voicing my personal opinion on Livescope fishing because once you say anything negative about it, a large portion of the fishing community immediately determines that you are an asshole and that you belong in the Randy Blauket category.....and they avoid speaking to you, or bringing their boats in to you for repairs. 🙄 The whole issue has gone political. -
Apocalypse looming ?

Dang JD, how many people are out over there? I complain all the time about our electric company and how much they hit us all for every month, but I'll give them credit...... Whenever there's an outage they get right on it, and have everyone back on really quickly. No matter how badly the damage was. -

It is sickening. Practically every boat that comes in for repairs is equipped with FFS. Even little old tin boats with 15-30hp motors, on trailers that I wouldn't trust to go 2 miles down the road with. The only positive side for me is that it lets me know that I can give myself another healthy raise this year without hurting anyone's bank account too bad. -

I know..... that's why SHE is doing it, and not ME. He has a dry flakey skin issue on his backside, and these women just can't tolerate it. Isn't bothering him (or me) at all. 🙄 So they insist on shaving his butt and rubbing coconut oil all over it. I tried to get her to shave MY butt and rub oil on it.....but she just rolled her eyes. -
